  • Researchers have observed one student who had difficulty in formulating a division equation. In the context of determination of a unit rate problem based on one student's case and previous research, we tried to examine in detail how students expressed the division formula, how to select the dividend and the divisor, and how they learned about those. First, a questionnaire was developed to analyze student's reactions and applied to the research participants. Interviews were conducted to discover how the participants choose the dividends and divisors derived from their cognitive characteristics corresponding to their selection method. The research exposed that the majority of the participants had difficulty in deciding the dividends and divisors. Moreover, the research indicated information that teaching methods need to be reformed. Finally, we obtained suggestions to place emphasis on how to decide a dividend and a divisor, why they made such selection and what the equation means. We proposed a learning method for the research above.

  • In general, the design of membrane structures takes three steps. The first is shape finding analysis which is determination of initial equilibrium geometry with uniform stresses. The second step involve the computation of the stress-deformation to get completed membrane under various load conditions. The third step is to divide the membrane structures into several plan strips from the initial equilibrium states. This procedure is needed because of the initial shape has usually undevelopable curved surface and is called as "cutting patterns generation". By introducing this work, the deformation due to the initial stress is removed and approximate cutting patterns are generated. In this approach, however, material properties is not considered, therefore the error between the design stresses and actual stresses during the fabrication of plan strips should be occurred. In this paper, actual equilibrium shape analysis procedure for HP shape models is presented. The deviations of stresses between the design stresses and actual stresses are estimated.

  • Determination of the required reserve capacity has an important function in operation of power system and it is calculated based on the largest loss of supply. However, conventional method cannot be applied in future power system, because potential grid-connected distributed generator and abnormal temperature cause the large load imbalance. Therefore this paper address new framework for determining the optimal required reserve capacity taking into account the real time load imbalance. At first, we introduce the way of operating reserve resources which are the secondary, tertiary, Direct Load Control (DLC) and Load shedding reserves to make up the load imbalance. Then, the formulated problem can be solved by the Probabilistic Dynamic Programming (PDP) method. In case study, we divide two cases for comparing the cost function between the conventional method and the proposed method.

  • Several methods are proposed in the literature for losses segregation of single phase induction motor. Generally we could divide two methods for experimental determination of losses segregation for single phase induction motor. The one is relatively complicated method based on Parameter estimation of single phase induction motor. The other is simple method based on IEEE Standard 114. Segregation of losses in single phase induction motor is more complicated than that in three phase induction motor, because of the backward magnetic field component in the motor and multiplicity of different single phase type. In this paper, therefore, we studied losses segregation of capacitor-run single phase induction motor.

  • The determination of midtower longitudinal stiffness has become an essential component in the preliminary design of multi-tower suspension bridges. For a specific multi-tower suspension bridge, the midtower longitudinal stiffness must be controlled within a certain range to meet the requirements of sliding resistance coefficient and deflection-to-span ratio. This study presents a numerical method to divide different types of midtower and determine rational range of longitudinal stiffness for rigid midtower. In this method, influence curves of midtower longitudinal stiffness on sliding resistance coefficient and maximum vertical deflection-to-span ratio are first obtained from the finite element analysis. Then, different types of midtower are divided based on the regression analysis of influence curves. Finally, rational range for longitudinal stiffness of rigid midtower is derived. The Oujiang River North Estuary Bridge which is a three-tower four-span suspension bridge with two main spans of 800m under construction in China is selected as the subject of this study. This will be the first three-tower four-span suspension bridge with steel truss girders and concrete midtower in the world. The proposed method provides an effective and feasible tool for engineers to design midtower of multi-tower suspension bridges.

  • At present, company has to produce a product that consumer like with a competitive price, a good quality, and a fitting time to supply. Process control and quality control are very important to supply with a product uniformly and inexpensively. Process control is given much weight in the quality control in manufacturing system. Statistical process controls(SPC) that are used in process generally have major impact on manufacturing, product design activities, and process development potentially. Control charts in statistical process control method can be interpreted the data from quality characteristics in production process and discriminated between chance variation and assignable variation in process. In addition, control chart can be used to monitor the process output and detect when changes in the inputs are required to bring the process back to an in-control state. The models that relate the influential inputs to process outputs help determine the nature and magnitude of the adjustments required. In this paper, the characteristic of product quality is monitored by control chart during the machining process and construction of quality control cycle is considered to divide into two types in this case that different assignable causes lead to shifts having different magnitudes. Then we are intended to find a process shift magnitude which has economical quality cost policy and are considered to quality cost functions to find a process shift magnitude. • Statement of problem: Many factors influence shade determination in clinical practice and shade matching is highly affected by the viewing conditions. Purpose : This study investigated the differences in shade perception among distinct groups of dental personnel (10 prosthodontists, 10 general practitioners, 10 last-year dental students and 10 dental technicians) Material and method: Four groups of dental personnel were investigated. They were tested to eliminate color blindness. To compare shade selection ability, they were asked to match four test tabs of shades A3, B2, C2 and D4 (VITAPAN$^{(R)}$ Classical shade guide. The identification codes of the shade tabs were masked to prevent shade memory. ) against another full set of VITA$^{(R)}$ PAN$^{(R)}$ Classical shade guide under similar lighting conditions. Shade selections were randomly repeated five times every week and then the repeatability between dental personnel was evaluated. To compare value perception ability, they were asked to arrange randomly selected five test tabs (Bl, A2, D2, C3, A4) in descending order from the brightest to the darkest. To compare hue determination ability, they were asked to divide selected eight test tabs (n, A3, B2, B3, C2, C3, D2, D3) into four groups by manufacturer as follows : Group A-Reddish brown, Group B-Reddish yellow. Group C-Grey. Group D-Reddish grey. Results and conclusion : The obtained results were as follows : 1. For the value perception ability and hue determination ability. there was no significant difference among 4 groups: prosthodontists, general practitioners, dental students, dental technicians (P>.05). 2. For shade selection ability, the prosthodontists and dental technicians were significantly higher than dental students(P<.05). 3. The repeatability of selected shade in the dental technicians was significantly higher than that of general practitioners and dental students(P<.05). 4. The prosthodontists and dental technicians had significantly higher selection ability than dental students for shade B2 (P<.05).

  • This study primarily concerns the fundamental breach of contract by a seller and a buyer's two remedies that are entitled to under the CISG. Regarding the breach of contract, the CISG simply provides a list of each party's obligations and regulates that both parties should fulfill the obligations under the contract as well as the Convention. When the CISG specifies the remedies for both parties, it requires to divide the fundamental breach of contract from breach of contract. By doing so, it provides different remedies to both parties depending on whether it is the fundamental breach of contract or not. From the point of buyer's view, the buyer has two remedies when there is the fundamental breach of contract by the seller; they are the right to declare the avoidance of contract and to require the delivery of substitute goods. The fundamental breach of contract is a pre-requisite condition to be fulfilled in order to exercise these two remedies. Although the CISG provides the definition of fundamental breach of contract, its meaning is not clear enough, so it is interpreted and applied case by case. Therefore, this paper will analyze recent cases focusing on the most debated issues regarding the interpretation of fundamental breach of contract; first, who determines the substantial deprivation and when is the time for determination, second, when is the time for unpredictability of substantial deprivation, and last, who has a burden of proof.
