In this study, the problem formulation and solution technique using genetic algorithms for design optimization of laminate composite cylindrical beam section are presented. The hollow cylindrical beams we usually used in the wheel chair. If the weight of wheel chair is reduced, it will lead to huge improvement in passenger's mobility and comfort. In this context, the replacement of steel by high performance and light weight composite material along with optimal design will be a good contribution in the process of weight reduction of a wheel chair. An artificial genetics approach for the design optimization of hollow cylindrical composite beam is presented. On applying the genetic algorithm, the optimal dimensions of hollow cylindrical composite beams which have equivalent rigidities to those of corresponding hollow cylindrical steel beams are obtained. Also structural analysis is conducted on the entire wheel chair structure incorporating Tsai-Wu failure criteria. The maximum Tsai-Wu failure criteria index is $0.192\times10^{-3}$ which is moth less than value of 1.00 indicating no failure is observed under excessive loading condition. It is found that the substitution of steel by composite material could reduce the weight of wheel chair up to 45%.

As an experimental technique to analyze the far-field characteristics of underwater cylindrical array sensors, cylindrical acoustic holography is studied. Inside an laboratory water tank, far-field directivity patterns as well as near-field source images are reconstructed from the measured hologram by hydrophone array. Approximate equation for far-field directivity estimation is derived based on stationary phase method. The simulation and experiment show well usefulness of the proposed method in application of underwater array sensors.

A finite element vibration analysis of thin-walled cylindrical shells conveying fluid with uniform velocity is presented. The dynamic behavior of thin-walled shell is based on the Sanders' theory and the fluid in cylindrical shell is considered as inviscid and incompressible so that it satisfies the Laplace's equation. A beam-like shell element is used to reduce the number of degrees-of-freedom by restricting to the circumferential modes of cylindrical shell. An estimation of frequency response function of the pipe considering of the coupled effects of the internal fluid is presented. A dynamic coupling condition of the interface between the fluid and the structure is used. The effective thickness of fluid according to circumferential modes is also discussed. The influence of fluid velocity on the frequency response function is illustrated and discussed. The results by this method are compared with published results and those by commercial tools.

Shell structures are widely used in a variety of engineering application, and mathematical solution of shell structures are available only for a few special cases. The solution of shell structure is more complicated when it has such condition as winkler foundation, other problems. In this study many simplified methods (analogy of beam on elastic foudation, finite element method and transfer matrix method) are applied to analyze a hemisphere-cylindrical shell structures on elastic foundation. And the transfer matrix method is extensively used for the structural analysis because of its merit in the theoretical backgroud and applicability. Therefore, this paper presents the analysis of hemisphere-cylindrical shell structure base on the transfer matrix method. The technique is attractive for implementation on a numerical solution by means of a computer program coded in FORTRAN language with a few elements. To demonstrate this fact, it gives good results which compare well with finite element method.

Process conditions for generating nano patterns handle different process according to the pattern characteristics, and different process data according to patterns in questions. To efficiently find optimal process conditions for generating nano patterns, process data by experiment is needed consideration of the pattern characteristics concerning the equipment. In particular, coating methods of a cylindrical mold differ from it of a flat plate because of viscosity of coating materials. Also the coating thickness affects nano process and pattern line width. So coating method of coating thickness for cylindrical mold is very important on nano pattern generating. In this study, a method is proposed for coating Photo Resist through the spray in order to coat cylindrical mold and measuring the thickness of coating using measuring tip considering the size of cylindrical mold because there is no method in the existing SEM. The proposed method is applied to a real printed electronics system to verify its accuracy and efficiency.
Classical and first-order nonlocal beam theory are employed in this study to assess the thermal buckling performance of a small-scale conical, cylindrical beam. The beam is constructed from functionally graded (FG) porosity-dependent material and operates under the thermal conditions of the environment. Imperfections within the non-uniform beam vary along both the radius and length direction, with continuous changes in thickness throughout its length. The resulting structure is functionally graded in both radial and axial directions, forming a bi-directional configuration. Utilizing the energy method, governing equations are derived to analyze the thermal stability and buckling characteristics of a nanobeam across different beam theories. Subsequently, the extracted partial differential equations (PDE) are numerically solved using the generalized differential quadratic method (GDQM), providing a comprehensive exploration of the thermal behavior of the system. The detailed discussion of the produced results is based on various applied effective parameters, with a focus on the potential application of nanotubes in enhancing sports bikes performance.
In this paper, a study is conducted on the design of an optical system of a time-of-flight (TOF) laser distance sensor that can measure long distances by minimizing beam divergence. When measuring a long distance, the amount of light on the object's surface decreases as the distance increases, due to the diffusion angle of the laser beam, and thus the beam at the sensor also decreases, causing measurement errors. In general, a cylindrical lens is used to reduce the divergence beam angle. However, an optical system using a cylindrical lens has the problem of degraded performance due to the difficulty with assembly tolerance, as well as the problem of the increased size of the optical system, and thus the use of aspherical lenses has been increasing recently. Therefore, in this study, the optical efficiencies and assembly tolerances of optical systems using respectively a cylindrical lens and an aspherical lens are compared and analyzed.
In this paper, evaluation method of structural integrity of cylindrical composite lattice structures was conducted. A finite element analysis was used to evaluate the structural integrity of composite lattice structures. In order to verify the optimal finite element in the evaluation of the structural integrity, finite element models for cylindrical composite lattice structure were generated using beam, shell and solid elements. The results of the finite element analyses with the shell and solid element models showed a good agreement. However, considerable differences were found between the beam element model and the shell and solid models. This occurred because the beam element does not take into account the degradation of the mechanical properties of the non-intersection parts of cylindrical composite lattice structures. It was found that the finite element analysis of evaluation of structural integrity for cylindrical composite lattice structures have to use solid element.
This paper reports a study on the long axis performance of the line beam optics used in laser lift-off equipment for the OLED manufacturing process. The centration errors of the cylindrical lens are classified and defined in seven categories, and the measurement methods are presented. The cylindrical fly-eye lens is analyzed theoretically and experimentally to find the influence of the surface shape error and decentering error on the long axis performance of the line beam optics system. A future research direction is also presented to improve the long axis performance.
