  • Due to the change of socio-cultural conditions, family dissolving is increasing. As an alternative, grandparents who parent their grandchildren are also increasing rapidly and many show deep concern at this phenomenon. The grandparents-grandchildren families were approached through policy-makers' and professionals' perspective, not through insiders' view. The purpose of this ethnographic study were to explore the experiences and meaning-makings of grandmothers who are raising grandchildren. 22 narrative interviews with 10 grandmothers were conducted. The results of data analysis are as follows. The cultural theme in rasing experiences of grandmothers is 'Constituting a family beyond the multiple boundaries'. This theme include four cultural meanings: 'Recunstuction of everyday life beyound boundaries', 'Boundary of relative poverty more rigid than boundary of absolute poverty', 'Compromising constantly with normal culture having both inclusion and exclusion' boundaries', 'Having aspiration toward crossing the boundaries'. The policiy-makers and practitioners for the grandparents-grandchildren families should recognize the experiences and meaning-making of these families and should perform culturally perceptible and family-centered policies and practices.

  • This paper presents plans to develop cultural archetype into a cultural industry. Though, various types of cultural products are being developed, they're not very popular to consumers and has very limited market. Reason for that is, most of these products are simple replicas of cultural assets or they are focused solely on restoring the traditions without considering trend. This study was focused on patterns found on the relics from mausoleum of king Mooryung of Baek-je. Main focus was the meaning of important patterns as generalized representation of traditional and emotional value. In addition, the study was done with the idea that developing the design of cultural products should be presented in modern style while carrying the traditional value and the story telling elements. The order of developing the design should be, first, forming process based on its original form and the elements, and developing a design motive based on the story the pattern is carrying. Then develop sample products with the motive.

Especially for the case of rag doll which is closely related to the life of users, it has enough value as traditional cultural contents, however, there have been not sufficient studies on its pattern development and classification of form of dolls. Therefore, by classifying the body type of dolls by its pose, this study aims to provide a basic data for the development of hanbok pattern. This study looks into the origin and meaning of dolls and the definition and features of rag doll, then, it collected pictures and data rag dolls produced by 29 domestic companies. • Since 1795, 106 districts in Japan have been selected as Important Historic Preservation Districts (Juuyo dentouteki kenzoubutsugun hozon chiku [Juudenken]). The system for protection of cultural properties enables the local government to name a "Preservation District" and allows for the development of a preservation plan based on local ordinances. Moreover, the well-organized, bottom-up networks, which are groups for community development activities on the basis of local participation, play an important role in raising awareness and conducting several preservation projects in their own towns. This study mainly focused on cultural resources management in the local community. The system, which possibly bridged the gap between the local authorities and the community, was revealed. Fifty non-profit groups and active citizens, who were engaged in an advanced stage of community participation in Juudenken, were selected to be interviewed. The results then were analyzed using STAT program. The significant associations were shown by mapping the associations related to the public process of community involvement. Each variable had its own significant meaning and contributed credible indirect association to community involvement. The network mapping indicated that balancing the local economy and technical conservation was important in generating community involvement, which provided a model on how local authorities and communities could articulate and maintain their own cultural resources.
