Ground Tracking Support Condition Effect on Orbit Determination for Korea Pathfinder Lunar Orbiter (KPLO) in Lunar Orbit

  • The ground tracking support is a critical factor for the navigation performance of spacecraft orbiting around the Moon. Because of the tracking limit of antennas, only a small number of facilities can support lunar missions. Therefore, case studies for various ground tracking support conditions are needed for lunar missions on the stage of preliminary mission analysis. This study analyzes the ground supporting condition effect on orbit determination (OD) of Korea Pathfinder Lunar Orbiter (KPLO) in the lunar orbit. For the assumption of ground support conditions, daily tracking frequency, cut-off angle for low elevation, tracking measurement accuracy, and tracking failure situations were considered. Two antennas of deep space network (DSN) and Korea Deep Space Antenna (KDSA) are utilized for various tracking conditions configuration. For the investigation of the daily tracking frequency effect, three cases (full support, DSN 4 pass/day and KDSA 4 pass/day, and DSN 2 pass/day and KDSA 2 pass/day) are prepared. For the elevation cut-off angle effect, two situations, which are 5 deg and 10 deg, are assumed. Three cases (0%, 30%, and 50% of degradation) were considered for the tracking measurement accuracy effect. Three cases such as no missing, 1-day KDSA missing, and 2-day KDSA missing are assumed for tracking failure effect. For OD, a sequential estimation algorithm was used, and for the OD performance evaluation, position uncertainty, position differences between true and estimated orbits, and orbit overlap precision according to various ground supporting conditions were investigated. Orbit prediction accuracy variations due to ground tracking conditions were also demonstrated. This study provides a guideline for selecting ground tracking support levels and preparing a backup plan for the KPLO lunar mission phase.

  • In this paper we investigate the existence of solutions of a nonlinear wave equation $u_{tt} - u_{xx} = p(x, t, u)$$ in $H_0$, where $H_0$ is the Hilbert space spanned by eigenfunctions. If p satisfy condition $(p_1) - (p_3)$, this nonlinear gave equation has at least one solution.

  • This paper deals with the blow-up phenomenon of solutions to a pseudo-parabolic equation with logarithmic nonlinearity, which was studied extensively in recent years. The previous result depends on the mountain-pass level d (see (1.6) for its definition). In this paper, we obtain two blow-up conditions which do not depend on d. Moreover, the upper bound of the blow-up time is obtained.

  • In this article, we study the Klein-Gordon-Maxwell equations arising from a semilocal gauge field model. This model describes the interaction of two complex scalar fields and one gauge field, and generalizes the classical Klein-Gordon equation coupled with the Maxwell electrodynamics. We prove that there exist infinitely many standing wave solutions for p ∈ (2, 6) which are radially symmetric. Here, p comes from the exponent of the potential of scalar fields. We also prove the nonexistence of nontrivial solutions for the critical case p = 6.

  • In this paper, we prove, in the spirit of [3, 12, 20, 22, 23], the existence of infinitely many small solutions to the following quasilinear elliptic equation $-{\Delta}_{p(x)}u+{\mid}u{\mid}^{p(x)-2}u={\mid}u{\mid}^{q(x)-2}u+{\lambda}f(x,u)$ in a smooth bounded domain ${\Omega}$ of ${\mathbb{R}}^N$. We also assume that $\{q(x)=p^*(x)\}{\neq}{\emptyset}$, where $p^*(x)$ = Np(x)/(N - p(x)) is the critical Sobolev exponent for variable exponents. The proof is based on a new version of the symmetric mountainpass lemma due to Kajikiya [22], and property of these solutions are also obtained.

Mobility and Safety Evaluation Methodology for the Locations of Hi-PASS Lanes Using a Microscopic Traffic Simulation Tool (미시교통시뮬레이션모형을 이용한 하이패스 차로 위치별 이동성 및 안전성 평가방법 연구)

  • The number of Hi-Pass lanes became 793 lanes at 316 expressway tollgates in 2011 due to the increase in the Hi-Pass use. In spite of the increase in the number of Hi-Pass lanes, there have been increased potential risks in tollgates where vehicles using a Hi-Pass lane must weave with other vehicles using a TCS lane. Therefore, there is a need for study on the safety in tollgates. To this end, this study aims at developing a methodology to evaluate the performance measures of diverse location countermeasures of Hi-Pass lanes in an efficient and systematic way. This study measured the mobility, safety and the convenience of installation and operation of Hi-Pass lanes using a microscopic traffic simulation tool, the surrogate safety assessment model and survey. In addition, this study aggregated the above three performance indexes using weight factors estimated using the AHP technique. For the test site, Dongsuwon interchange was selected. After building the microscopic traffic simulation model for the test site, the location countermeasures of Hi-Pass lanes applicable to the test site were compared with each other in terms of the mobility, safety and installing and operating convenience. As a result, there has been no apparent difference in mobility index based on delays. However, the countermeasures where Hi-Pass lanes are located in inside lanes generally showed better safety performance based on the number of conflicts. In addition, countermeasures with neighboring Hi-Pass lanes were favorable in terms of the safety and the convenience of installation and operation. The methodology proposed in this study was found to be useful to support decision makings by providing critical and quantitative information regarding the mobility, safety and the convenience of installation and operation.

Computational Fluid Dynamics Simulation of Flow Pattern Change in the Andong-Imha Reservoir Connecting Tunnel Due to Fish Exclusion Screens (어류 차단 스크린 설치에 따른 안동-임하호 연결터널 내 흐름변화에 대한 전산유체동역학 수치모의)

  • Imha Reservoir is connected to Andong Reservoir via a diversion tunnel allowing water to pass between. The diversion tunnel is equipped with screens to exclude exotic largemouth bass due to their predatory impacts on prey assemblages resulting in a degradation of species richness of local fish fauna and extinction of local fish populations in Korea. Flow pattern changes resulting from the fish screens and trash racks were investigated using a computational fluid dynamics (CFD) model. Numerical simulations showed that the decrease in the discharge capacity of the tunnel is approximately 8.6% and the headloss coefficient for fish screen at Andong intake tower was determined to be 1.5. In order not to allow the small fishes enough to pass through the wire openings enter into Imha Reservoir through tunnel, the velocity in the tunnel should be greater than 1.48 m/s which is a critical ascending velocity of the bass. This study suggests that it can keep the velocity higher enough to exclude largemouth bass when a gate opens with the condition of 1.0m difference in water stage between two reservoirs.

Design of High Frequency Boosting Circuits Compensating for Hearing Loss (청력 보정을 위한 고주파 증폭 회로 설계)

  • In this paper, we propose a high frequency boosting circuits compensating for age-related hearing loss. The frequency response of this hearing loss is quite similar to that of a low-pass filter of which the critical frequency get lower with age. Therefore the voltage gain of this compensation circuits increase proportionally to the frequency of signals when the frequency is higher than the critical frequency and the voltage is constant irrespective of the frequency of signals when the frequency is lower than the critical frequency. The proposed circuits consist of a differential circuit and a unity gain amplifier. Because the critical frequency of the proposed circuits is controlled simply in the shape of a volume control lever, the aged people can adjust the high frequency boosting level easily according to one's hearing loss level. The critical frequency is continuously controllable in the whole audible frequency band and the gain of this high frequency boosting circuits is above 80dB at 10kHz.

  • CFRP(Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastics) of the advanced composite materials as structural materials for vehicle, has a wide application in light-weigh structural materials of airplanes, ships and automobiles because of high strength and stiffness, However, there is a design variable to be considered in practical application of the laminate composite materials, these materials are vulnerable to transverse impact. This paper is to study the effects of stacking sequence and curvature on the penetration characteristics of composite laminate shell. They are stacked to $[0_3/90_3]S,\;[90_3/0_3]s\;and\;[0_2/90_3/0]s,\;[90_2/0_3/90]s$ and their interlaminar number two and four. They are manufactured to various curvature radius (R=100, 150, 200mm and $\infty$), When the specimen is subjected to transverse impact by a steel ball, the velocity of the steel ball was measured both before and after impact by determing the time for it to pass two ballistics-screen sensors located a known distance apart. The critical penetration energy of specimen A and B with less interfaces were a little higher than those of C and D. As the curvature increases, the critical penetration energy increases linearly because the resistance to the in-plane deformation as well as bending deformation increases, which need higher critical penetration energy. The specimen A and C have higher critical penetration energy than B and D because of different stacking sequences. We examined crack length through a penetration test. For the specimen A with 2interfaces, the longest circumferential direction crack length were observed on the first interface from the impact point. For the specimen B 4-interface, the longest circumferential direction crack length were observed on the second interface from the impact point.

A Study on the Values of MBS of Various Security Designs (주택저당증권(MBS)의 발행구조에 관한 연구 : 다양한 MBS 구조설계를 중심으로)

  • I examine the relationship between values and security designs of MBS(mortgage-backed securities), using four different types of them. To this end I consider a pass-through and three different kinds of CMOs(collateralized mortgage obligations). It turns out that the pass-through has the lowest value and that, among CMOs, that of a senior-mezzanine-subordinate design has the highest value. This implies that CMOs of a simple and extreme design, like that of a senior-subordinate design, are not likely to be the best CMOs for risk averse buyers. Another critical finding is that the optimal security design of CMOs or MBS does exist in the form of an interior solution. This indicates that MBS issuers could charge higher prices of MBS given their underlying mortgages by tailoring MBS security designs to the needs or utilities of MBS buyers, usually by removing and combining risks of component tranches of MBS. Accordingly a thorough study of realistic utility functions of MBA buyers could enhance the values or prices of MBS to be issued.
