All-Synthesizable 5-Phase Phase-Locked Loop for USB2.0

  • A 5-phase phase-locked loop (PLL) for USB2.0 applications was implemented by using an all-synthesis technique. The length of the time-to-digital converter for the fine phase detector was halved by the operation of a coarse phase detector that uses 5-phase clocks. The maximum time difference between the rising edges of two adjacent-phase clocks was 6 ps at 480 MHz. The PLL chip in a 65-nm process occupies $0.038mm^2$, consumes 4.8 mW at 1.2 V. The measured rms and peak-to-peak output jitters are 8.6 ps and 45 ps, respectively.

Synthesis and Surface Derivatization of Processible Co Nanoparticles

  • Co nanoparticles were prepared by the reverse micelle technique (NaBH₄reduction of cobalt chloride in a reversed micelle solution of didodecyldimethylammoniumbromide (DDAB)/toluene). The size and the shape of Co nanoparticles could be easily controlled by changing the water contents and micelle concentrations, and the solubility of Co nanoparticles was systematically tuned by choosing appropriate surface capping organic ligand molecules. Furthermore, a novel nanofabrication process was clearly demonstrated, which generated oxide over-coated Co nanorods from Co nanoparticles in organic solution by slow oxidation with an external magnetic field.

Synthesis and Characterizations of Bis-Spiropyran Derivatives

  • We synthesized three different derivatives of bis-spiropyran using simple organic reactions with high yields. BSP1, a derivative of bis-spiropyran having a connection at the position 6' and BSP2, a derivative of bis-spiropyran having a connection at the position 5 and BSP3, a derivative of bis-spiropyran containing a dithienylethene group between two spiropyran moieties were synthesized. The optical properties of BSPs were characterized. UV-Vis spectra showed that BSPs exhibit reversible photo-isomerization and the efficiency of photo-isomerization is highly dependent on the position of nitro group. BSPs having nitro group at para position of hydroxy group showed the higher efficiency of photo-isomerization that the one having nitro group at ortho position. The optical microscope images obtained under ultraviolet or visible light exposure demonstrated that the formation of nanorods can be reversibly controlled by optical signal.

Non-Covalent Immobilization of Chiral (Salen) Complexes on HF-treated Mesoporous MFI-type Zeolite for Asymmetric Catalysis

  • MFI structural zeolite (ZSM-5 or Sililcalite) was treated with HF solution to introduce mesoporous channels in the microporous crystals. Inner mesopore size could be controlled from 2.5 to 3.5 nm by changing the concentration of HF solution. The pore structure of HF-treated MFI zeolite was studied by instrumental analysis. The active Co (III) salen complex monomers were successfully anchored non-covalently on the surfaces of mesoporous MFI-type zeolite. These heterogeneous catalysts could be applied in asymmetric ring opening of terminal epoxides by phenol derivatives. It showed very high enantioselectivity and yield up to 95% in the catalytic synthesis of optically active $\alpha$-aryloxy alcohol compounds.

  • We design and demonstrate the controled doping into ZnO nanowires (NWs) adopting self-contrived hot-walled pulsed laser deposition (HW-PLD). Optimized synthesis conditions with the diversified dopants guarantee the excellent crystalinity and morphology as well as electrical properties of the NWs. Proprietary target rotating system in the HW-PLD fuels the controlled formation and doping of the NWs. Prepared NWs sensitive to the environment are systematically characterized, and the doping mechanism is discussed.

Synthesis of Highly Concentrated ZnO Nanorod Sol by Sol-gel Method and their Applications for Inverted Organic Solar Cells

  • The effects of the zinc oxide (ZnO) preparing process on the performance of inverted organic photovoltaic cells (OPVs) were explored. The morphology and size of ZnO nanoparticles were controlled, leading to more efficient charge collection from device and higher electron mobility compared with nanospheres. Nanosized ZnO particles were synthesized by using zinc acetate dihydrate and potassium hydroxide in methanol. Also, water was added into the reaction medium to control the morphology of ZnO nanocrystals from spherical particles to rods, and $NH_4OH$ was used to prevent the gelation of dispersion. Solution-processed ZnO thin films were deposited onto the ITO/glass substrate by using spin coating process and then ZnO films were used as an electron transport layer in inverted organic photovoltaic cells. The analyses were carried out by using TEM, FE-SEM, AFM, DLS, UV-Vis spectroscopy, current density-voltage characteristics and solar simulator.

  • This paper presents a simple and new digital redesign algorithm for fussy-model-based controllers. In the first stage, a continuous-time TS fuzzy model is constructed for a given continuous-time nonlinear system and a corresponding continuous-time fuzzy-model-based controller is established based on the existing controller synthesis algorithms. In the second stage, the continuous-time fuzzy-model-based controller is converted to equivalent discrete-time fuzzy-model-based controller, aiming at maintaining the property of the analogue controlled system, which are called intelligent digital redesign. Finally, the proposed method is applied to the digital control of inverted pendulum system to shows the effectiveness and the feasibility of the method.

  • 本論文에서는 中心周波數를 클럭周波數에 의해 線型的으로 변화시킬 수 있고 選揮度와 最大利得은 캐패시터 array에 의해 디지틀信號로 制擧할 수 있는 프로그램 可能한 2次SC filter를 構成하였다. 또한 이 filter를 이용하여 formant音聲合成시스템을 構成하고 韓國誤子音을 合成함으로써 이 filter를 가지고 韓國語의 대부분이 吟聲을 實時間으로 合成할 수 있다는 可能性을 보였다.

Morphology Control of Single Crystalline Rutile TiO2 Nanowires

  • Nano-scaled metal oxides have been attractive materials for sensors, photocatalysis, and dye-sensitization for solar cells. We report the controlled synthesis and characterization of single crystalline $TiO_2$ nanowires via a catalyst-assisted vapor-liquid-solid (VLS) and vapor-solid (VS) growth mechanism during TiO powder evaporation. Scanning electron microscope (SEM) and transmission electron microscope (TEM) studies show that as grown $TiO_2$ materials are one-dimensional (1D) nano-structures with a single crystalline rutile phase. Also, energy-dispersive X-ray (EDX) spectroscopy indicates the presence of both Ti and O with a Ti/O atomic ratio of 1 to 2. Various morphologies of single crystalline $TiO_2$ nano-structures are realized by controlling the growth temperature and flow rate of carrier gas. Large amount of reactant evaporated at high temperature and high flow rate is crucial to the morphology change of $TiO_2$ nanowire.

Morphology Controlled Synthesis of Nanostructured Bi2Te3

  • Nanostructured thermoelectric bismuth telluride ($Bi_2Te_3$) powders with various morphologies, such as nanoplates, nanorods, and nanotubes, were prepared by a hydrothermal method based on the reaction between $BiCl_3$, Te, and sodium ethylenediaminetetraacetate ($Na_2$-EDTA) at 150, 180, and $210^{\circ}C$. The products were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM), and selected area electron diffraction (SAED). The effect of reaction temperature on the morphology of the $Bi_2Te_3$ particles was investigated, and the possible mechanism of morphology control was proposed.
