VoD(Video-on-Demand) servers have to provide timely processing guarantees for continuous media and reduce the storage and bandwidth requirements for continuous media. The compression techniques make the bit rates of compressed video data significantly variable from frame to frame. A VoD system should be able to provide the client with interactive operations such as fast forward and fast rewind in addition to normal playback of movie. However, interactive operations require additional resources such as storage space, disk bandwidth, memory and network bandwidth. In a stored video application such as VoD system, it is possible that a priori disk access patterns can be used to reserve the system resources in advance. In addition, clients of VoD server spend most of their time in playback mode and the period of time spent in interactive mode is relatively small. In this paper, I present the new buffer management scheme that provides efficient support for interactive operations in a VoD server using variable bit rate continuous media. Simulation results show that our strategy achieves 34% increase of the number of accepted clients over the LRU strategy.

This paper describes the stability analysis of TSK (Takagi-Sugeno-Kang) fuzzy systems which can
represent a large class of nonlinear systems with good accuracy. A TSK fuzzy model consists of TSK
fuzzy rules and the consequent of each fuzzy rule is a linear input-output equation with a constant term.
There may exist equilibrium points more than one in the TSK fuzzy model and each equilibrium point
rnay also have different nature of stability. The local stability of an equilibrium point is determined by
eigenvalues of the Jacobian matrix of the linearized TSK fuzzy model around the equilibrium point. Stability
of both the continuous-time and the discrete-time systems is analyzed in this paper.

This paper introduces a $L_{\infty}$-gain state feedback fuzzy controller design for the time delay nonlinear system represented by Takagi-Sugeno(T-S) fuzzy model. First, the T-S fuzzy model is employed to represent the time delay nonlinear system. Next based on the fuzzy model, a fuzzy state feedback controller is developed to achieve $L_{\infty}$-gain performance. Finally, sufficient conditions are derived for $L_{\infty}$-gain performance. The sufficient conditions are formulated in the format of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs). The effectiveness of the proposed controller design methonology is finally demonstrated through numerical simulations.
This study aims to solve for nonlinear cylindrical shell systems with a semi-analytical and numerical approach implementing the P-T method. The procedures and conditions for such a study are presented in practically solving and analyzing the cylindrical shell systems. An analytical model for a nonlinear thick cylindrical shell (TCS) is established on the basis of the stress function and Reddy's higher-order shear deformation theory (HSDT). According to Reddy's HSDT, Hooke's law in three dimensions, and the von-Kármán equation, the stress-strain relations are developed for the thick cylindrical shell systems, and the three coupled nonlinear governing equations are thus established and discretized as per the Galerkin method, for implementing the P-T method. The solution generated with the approach is continuous everywhere in the entire time domain considered. The approach proposed can also be used to numerically solve and analyze the nonlinear shell systems. The procedures and recurrence relations for numerical solutions of shell systems are presented. To demonstrate the application of the approach in numerically solving for nonlinear cylindrical shell systems, a specific nonlinear cylindrical shell system subjected to an external excitation is solved numerically. In numerically solving for the system, the present approach shows higher efficiency, accuracy, and reliability in comparison with that of the Runge-Kutta method. The approach with the P-T method presented is practically sound especially when continuous and high-quality numerical solutions for the shell systems are considered.
This paper presents a system-of-systems (SoS) approach to the formal modeling of a cyber-physical system (CPS) for simulation-based analysis. The approach is based on a convergence technology for modeling and simulation of a highly complex system in which SoS modeling methodology, hybrid systems modeling theory, and simulation interoperation technology are merged. The methodology maps each constituent system of a CPS to a disparate model of either continuous or discrete types. The theory employs two formalisms for modeling of the two model types with formal specification of interfaces between them. Finally, the technology adapts a simulation bus called DEVS BUS whose protocol synchronizes time and exchange messages between subsystems simulation. Benefits of the approach include reusability of simulation models and environments, and simulation-based analysis of subsystems of a CPS in an inter-relational manner.

In this paper, we proposed an intelligent digital redesign method for a class of fuzzy-model-based controllers, effective fur stabilization of continuous-time nonlinear systems. The TS fuzzy model is used to expend the results of the digital redesign technique to nonlinear systems. The proposed method utilized the recently developed LMI technique to obtain a digitally redesigned fuzzy-model-based controller. The intelligent digital redesign problem is converted to equivalent problem, and the LMI method is used to find the digitally redesigned fuzzy-model-based controller. The stabilization conditions of TS fuzzy model are derived for stabilization in the sense of Laypunov stability. In order to demonstrates the effectiveness and feasibility of the proposed controller design methodology, we applied this method to the single link flexible-joint robot arm.
In this paper, we show that general nonlinear switched systems are asymptotically controllable if and only if there exist control-Lyapunov functions for their relaxation systems. If the switching signal is dependent on the time, then the control-Lyapunov functions are continuous. And if the switching signal is dependent on the state, then the control-Lyapunov functions are $C^1$-smooth. We obtain the results from the viewpoint of control system theory. Our approach is based on the relaxation theorems of differential inclusions and the classic Lyapunov characterization.

Although most of control methods have been studied in the continuous-time domain, the actual control systems have been implemented using MCU (Micro Control Unit) and/or microprocessors so that the overall systems turn to be sampled-data systems. In this case, the stability criterion of the closed-loop system is not easy to derive. In this paper, a simple stability criterion for the sampled-data system with sliding mode controller is derived.
This article studies asymptotic stability of non-auto nomous linear systems with time-dependent coefficient matrices {A(t)}t∈ℝ. The classical theorem of Levinson has been widely used to science and engineering non-autonomous systems, but systems with defective eigenvalues could not be covered because such a family does not allow continuous diagonalization. We study systems where the family allows to have upper triangulation and to have defective eigenvalues. In addition to the wider applicability, working with upper triangular matrices in place of Jordan form matrices offers more flexibility. We interpret our and earlier works including Levinson's theorem from the perspective of invariant manifold theory.

In this paper, a predictive control method using wavelet neural network for chaotic nonlinear systems is presented. In our method, we use the adjusting method of the parameter for the training a wavelet neural network. The control signals are directly obtained by minimizing the difference between a reference signal and the output of a wavelet neural network. To verify the efficiency of our method, we apply it to the Duffing and the Henon system, which are a representative continuous and discrete time chaotic nonlinear system respectively.
