Modeling the confined compressive strength of hybrid circular concrete columns using neural networks

  • With respect to rehabilitation, strengthening and retrofitting of existing and deteriorated columns in buildings and bridges, CFRP sheets have been found effective in enhancing the performance of existing RC columns by wrapping and bonding CFRP sheets externally around the concrete. Concrete columns and piers that are confined by both lateral steel reinforcement and CFRP are sometimes referred to as "hybrid" concrete columns. With the availability of experimental data on concrete columns confined by steel reinforcement and/or CFRP, the study presents modeling using artificial neural networks (ANNs) to predict the compressive strength of hybrid circular RC columns. The prediction of the ultimate confined compressive strength of RC columns is very important especially when this value is used in estimating the capacity of structures. The present ANN model used as parameters for the confining materials the lateral steel ratio (${\rho}_s$) and the FRP volumetric ratio (${\rho}_{FRP}$). The model gave good predictions for three types of confined columns: (a) columns confined with steel reinforcement only, (b) CFRP confined columns, and (c) hybrid columns confined by both steel and CFRP. The model may be used for predicting the compressive strength of existing circular RC columns confined with steel only that will be strengthened or retrofitted using CFRP.

  • DOCSIS 3.0 MAC프로토콜은 MAP 메시지를 통하여 CM과 CMTS의 채널 전송 시간을 조정하므로 프로토콜 성능에 영향을 미치게 된다. 하지만 MAP의 구성요소와 용도에 대한 정의만 표준안에 언급이 되어 있고, MAP 메시지의 전송주기에 대한 정의는 언급되어 있지 않다. 본 논문에서는 DOCSIS 3.0에서 MAP 전송주기에 따른 프로토콜의 성능을 평가하고, 평가 결과를 바탕으로 최적의 MAP 전송주기를 제안하였다. 평가 결과로 MAP 전송주기는 0.05sec일 때 최적의 프로토콜 성능을 보임을 알 수 있었다. 본 연구의 결과는 DOCSIS 3.0 기반 케이블망의 구축을 위한 중요한 성능 요소로 사용될 수 있다.

전기 이중층 커패시터용 메조 다공성 탄소 나노섬유의 제조 (Fabrication of Mesoporous Carbon Nanofibers for Electrical Double-Layer Capacitors)

  • Mesoporous carbon nanofibers as electrode material for electrical double-layer capacitors(EDLCs) are fabricated using the electrospinning method and carbonization. Their morphologies, structures, chemical bonding states, porous structure, and electrochemical performance are investigated. The optimized mesoporous carbon nanofiber has a high sepecific surface area of $667m^2\;g^{-1}$, high average pore size of 6.3 nm, and high mesopore volume fraction of 80 %, as well as a unifom network structure consiting of a 1-D nanofiber stucture. The optimized mesoporous carbon nanofiber shows outstanding electrochemical performance with high specific capacitance of $87F\;g^{-1}$ at a current density of $0.1A\;g^{-1}$, high-rate performance ($72F\;g^{-1}$ at a current density of $20.0A\;g^{-1}$), and good cycling stability ($92F\;g^{-1}$ after 100 cycles). The improvement of the electrochemical performance via the combined effects of high specific surface area are due to the high mesopore volume fraction of the carbon nanofibers.

국제기구 및 국가 개발 사회자본 측정도구 비교 (A Comparison of Social Capital Tools Developed by International Institutes and Nations)

  • Objective: The purpose of this study was to identify and compare social capital measurement tools for the convenient use in public health studies. Method and result: This study examined and compared social capital tools developed individually by the World Bank, the OECD, the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, Ireland, and Korea. A comprehensive framework was constructed with six conceptual dimensions and sixteen indices. The six dimensions included Membership, Network, Trust, Information and communication, Social and civic participation, and Social cohesion and exclusion, which connoted the structural, cognitive, bonding, bridging, operative, and output elements. The indices of each tool were respectively matched to the indices of the comprehensive framework. The comprehensive tools were Integrated Questionnaire for the Measurement of Social Capital (SC-IQ) of the World Bank with 27 questions and the European Social Survey (ESS) of the OECD with 80 questions. Conclusion: The SC-IQ should be utilized in public health studies due to its simplicity yet comprehensiveness as a social capital tool. The ESS should also be considered as a comprehensive tool.

  • A modified silicon direct bonding method has been developed alloying an intimate contact between grooved and smooth mirror-polished oxide-free silicon wafers. A regular set of grooves was formed during preparation of heavily doped $p^+$-type grid network by oxide-masking und boron diffusion. Void-free bonded interfaces with filing of the grooves were observed by x-ray diffraction topography, infrared, optical. and scanning electron microscope techniques. The presence of regularly formed grooves in bending plane results in the substantial decrease of dislocation over large areas near the interface. Moreover two strongly misoriented waters could be successfully bonded by new technique. Diodes with bonded a pn-junction yielded a value of the ideality factor n about 1.5 and the uniform distribution of series resistance over the whole area of horded pn-structure. The suitability of the modified technique was confirmed by I - V characteristics of power diodes and reversly switched-on dynistor(RSD) with a working area about $12cm^2$. Both devices demonstrated breakdown voltages close to the calculation values.

루테늄 산화물 나노 섬유 지지체에 담지된 고 분산성 촉매의 전기화학적 거동 (Electrochemical Behavior of Well-dispersed Catalysts on Ruthenium Oxide Nanofiber Supports)

  • Well-dispersed platinum catalysts on ruthenium oxide nanofiber supports are fabricated using electrospinning, post-calcination, and reduction methods. To obtain the well-dispersed platinum catalysts, the surface of the nanofiber supports is modified using post-calcination. The structures, morphologies, crystal structures, chemical bonding energies, and electrochemical performance of the catalysts are investigated. The optimized catalysts show well-dispersed platinum nanoparticles (1-2 nm) on the nanofiber supports as well as a uniform network structure. In particular, the well-dispersed platinum catalysts on the ruthenium oxide nanofiber supports display excellent catalytic activity for oxygen reduction reactions with a half-wave potential ($E_{1/2}$) of 0.57 V and outstanding long-term stability after 2000 cycles, resulting in a lower $E_{1/2}$ potential degradation of 19 mV. The enhanced electrochemical performance for oxygen reduction reactions results from the well-dispersed platinum catalysts and unique nanofiber supports.

  • The complex [Cu(L)(H2O)2] (PDC)(1)(L=2,5,9,12-tetramethyl-1,4,8,11- tetraazacyclotetradecane;PDC=1,4-pyridinedicarboxylate) has been synthesized and characterized by X-ray crys-tallography. The compound 1 crystallizes in the triclinic space group P1, with a=7.553(1)Å, b=9.619(2)Å, c=10.692(2)Å, α=74.22(1)°, β=73.32(1)°, γ=78.70(1)°, V=710.1(2)Å3, Z=1,R1(wR2) for 2634 observed reflections of [I>2σ(I)] was 0.0854(0.2242). The compound 1 is interconnected to give a three-dimensional network through weak hydrogen-bonding interactions.

산소환원반응 촉매용 질소 도핑된 탄소나노섬유의 제조 (Synthesis of Nitrogen-doped Carbon Nanofibers for Oxygen Reduction Reaction)

  • N-doped carbon nanofibers as catalysts for oxygen-reduction reactions are synthesized using electrospinning and carbonization. Their morphologies, structures, chemical bonding states, and electrochemical performance are characterized. The optimized N-doped carbon nanofibers exhibit graphitization of carbon nanofibers and an increased nitrogen doping as well as a uniform network structure. In particular, the optimized N-doped carbon nanofibers show outstanding catalytic activity for oxygen-reduction reactions, such as a half-wave potential ($E_{1/2}$) of 0.43 V, kinetic limiting current density of $6.2mAcm^{-2}$, electron reduction pathways (n = 3.1), and excellent long-term stability after 2000 cycles, resulting in a lower $E_{1/2}$ potential degradation of 13 mV. The improvement in the electrochemical performance results from the synergistic effect of the graphitization of carbon nanofibers and the increased amount of nitrogen doping.

  • (H/sub 3/NCH/sub 2/CH/sub 2/NH/sub 3/)HPO/sub 4/ (Ⅰ) 화합물을 수열법으로 최초로 합성하고 단결정 X-선 회절법으로 구조를 규명하였다. 이 화합물은 단사정계 , 공간군 P2/sub 1//c, a=10.209(1), b=7.891(1), c= 8.039(1) (equation omitted), β= 92.138(9)°, V=: 647.2(2) (equation omitted), Z=4로 결정화되었으며, 1141 개의 독립적인 회절 반점에 대한 최종 신뢰도 인자 R/sub 1/ 및 ωR/sub 2/값은 각각 0.0295 및 0.0811이었다. 화합물 (Ⅰ)은 수소결합으로 연결된 3차원의 그물 구조를 갖는다.

  • [Ni(L)](BDC)·4H₂O (1) (L = 3,14-dimethyl-2,6,13,17-tetraazatricyclo[16,4,O/sup 1.18/,O/sup 7.12/]docosane;BDC = 1,3-benzenedicarboxylate) 착물을 합성하고 구조를 규명하였다. 이 착물은 사방정계, 공간군 Pcnb, a = 8.764(2) , b = 17.687(2) , c = 19.475(1) , V = 3018.7(8) ³, Z = 4로 결정화 되었다. 이 착물의 구조는 최소자승법으로 정밀화하였으며, 최종 신뢰도 R₁(wR₂)값은 2148개의 회절반점에 대하여 0.0822 및 0.2236이었다. 화합물 1은 수소결합들로 연결된 삼차원의 그물 구조를 갖는다.
