  • We investigate the dynamic relationship between stock returns and investors' behavior. For the putpose of the paper, daily KOSPI returns are decomposed into two parts: overnight returns and daytime returns. Overnight return is measured by the closing price of the previous day and the opening price of the current day. And daytime return is measured by the opening and closing prices of the current day. Qvernight returns are assumed to reflect global economic information, and daytime returns, domestic or local information. Major results are as follows: Foreign investors' behavior has an effect on the overnight returns more than the daytime returns. Individual investors' behavior, however, has little effect on the overnight returns, but not the daytime returns. Consequently, forecast error variance decomposition shows that the variance explanation power of foreign investors is higher in overnight returns rather than in the daytime returns. And the variance explanation power of individual investors is higher in daytime returns rather than in overnight returns. It implies that foreign investors employ dynamic hedging strategies and give more weight to global economic information rather than to domestic information. We conclude that investment behavior of foreign investors and domestic individuals is based on different economic information. This paper's findings are consistent with the economic situation that the Korean capital markets have faced since the global financial crisis of August 2008.

  • The traffic culture index is used as a major index in evaluating the traffic safety services of local governments and also serve as important data for the planning and implementation of traffic safety services. However, as the traffic culture index gradually became a standard for comparison among local governments, in part, certain cases arose which questioned the grounds for selecting variables for the index and the validity of the index in terms of its influential relationship between evaluation items. This study analyzed the index's influential relationship by utilizing a PLS structural equation model based on the evaluation results of the 2011 traffic culture index. A variable-linking model was created which recognized the relativity taking into account of the indirect effects between latent variables and this model was proven to be a model suitable in explaining the traffic culture index with a 97.8% explanation power. It was found that traffic safety(0.530), driving behavior(0.527), pedestrian behavior(0.187) and vulnerable road users(0.147), in such order, had an effect on the traffic culture index. It was also found that human casualties due to traffic accidents under "traffic safety" and traffic light compliance rate under "driving behavior" had an important effect. The study showed that motor vehicle share in illegal parking in school zones did not have a valid explanation power regarding "vulnerable road users".

  • Objectives: This study was conducted to evaluate the nutrition quotient (NQ) by mother's parenting style which may influence the NQ in preschool children. Methods: Subjects were 310 mothers and their 4-6 year old children. The questionnaire composed of demographic characteristics, mother's parenting style at meal time and eating behavior as measured by NQ questions. The NQ questions consisted of 19 food behavior checklist items and all items were grouped into 5 factors: balance, diversity, moderation, regularity, and practice. Mother's parenting style was classified by using words for nutrition education at meal time. All data were statistically analyzed by SPSS program (Ver. 23) and the statistical differences in variables were evaluated by Student's t-test, ${\chi}^2$-test, One-way ANOVA. Results: We observed that in children whose mothers use the parenting style at meal time of 'explanation' and 'compliment & cheer up' had high dietary regularity, diversity, practice. The children of mothers who use the parenting style at meal time of 'persuasion' and 'reward' were found to have a lower degree of balance, diversity, and practice. Especially, children of 'reward' style mothers had lower moderation of dietary life. On the other hand, among the parenting style at meal time of 'comparison & demand', 'treating' and 'faire', there was no significant difference in the NQ factor by each group. NQ grade was higher among those who used more explanation (p < 0.001) and persuasion (p < 0.01) and with use of less persuasion (p < 0.01) and reward (p < 0.01). The positive association observed between the frequency of dietary education of mothers and higher NQ grade indicated the degree of dietary practices of those children. On the other hand, the children of mothers who rarely practice the dietary education at home had lower NQ grade (p < 0.001). Conclusions: In order to promote children's proper dietary behaviors, it is important to provide nutrition education to children as well as provide guidance on parenting style at meal time.

  • The objective of the study is to find out the effects of toddler's temperament and mother's parenting behavior on the development of vocabulary ability. The study was conducted with 299 infants between the ages of 18 and 24 months and their mothers in 47 day care centers in I city, Jeollabukdo. The results of the study are as follows. First, according to the correlation between infant's temperament and vocabulary based on the composition of temperament, approach-avoidance, adaptability, and mood showed a negative correlation with receptive and expressive vocabulary, and response intensity showed a positive correlation with receptive vocabulary. Second, according to the relation between mother's parenting behavior and infant's vocabulary ability based on the sub-factors of mother's parenting behavior, instructional parenting behavior and setting-limits parenting behavior showed a positive correlation with receptive and expressive vocabulary. Third, according to the effects of infant's temperament and mother's parenting behavior on the development of infant's vocabulary ability, as for the understanding of vocabulary, the explanation power of approach-avoidance is the highest, followed by instructional parenting behavior, response intensity, and mood. As for expressive vocabulary, the explanation power of instructional parenting behavior is the highest, followed by mood, response intensity and activity. In the development of infant's vocabulary ability, it was found that receptive vocabulary was affected the most by approach-avoidance, and expressive vocabulary was affected the most by instructional parenting behavior. Mothers will have to have interrelation skills suitable for temperament for the development of infant's receptive vocabulary, and have parenting behavior expressing the traits of things and events for the development of expressive vocabulary.

  • In marketing reserach, the ultimate goal is to increase predictability of consumer's purchse behavior. However, most of the marketing researchers measure purchase intention rather than behavior assuming that the consumer's purchase behaviors will coincide with their intentions. Lately, there have been many arguments whether purchase intention is meaningful as a determinant or a predictor for purchase behavior. Additionally, many studies reported substantial variations among the 'product categories. The purpose of this study was to find out the relationship between consumer's purchase intention and purchase behavior of apparel products. Two research questions were set up. One was to find out the relationship between the intention and behavior, and the other was to find out the factors affecting the relationship. It was found out that mere intention could neither explain nor predict behavior, and that the factors affecting intenting intention- behavior inconsistency had to be submitted for explanation and prediction. These factors could explain inconsistency between the intention and the behavior. Regression equations in the past researches explained aggregate results, but coludn't explain each consumer's intention-behavior inconsistency. The integration of the specific intention and the affecting factors can increase predictability of each consumer's purchase behavior.

  • This study examines how parenting behavior and abuse experience in childhood and temperaments affect problem behavior by sex as it relates to undergraduates. The subject of this research is 220 undergraduates (males, 94; females, 126) attending universities located in Gyeonggi-do. Data were collected through the use of questionnaires during class. According to the results, when parenting behavior experienced in childhood is negative, abuse experience is more frequent, the emotional characteristics of the subject's temperaments are negative, activity is higher, sociability is lower, and problem behaviors such as social withdrawal, hyperactivity, aggressiveness, and obsession are more prevalent. Moreover, for male students, the chief factors explaining their problem behavior are their father's lack of supervision, physical violence, their mother's excessive interference and irrational parenting behavior, and the temperaments of excessive worrying, high activity, and low sociability. In the cases of female students, the primary variables affecting their problem behavior are negative emotional temperaments, low sociability temperaments, their father's low affection, excessive interference, too rational explanation, and their mother's inconsistent parenting behavior.

  • Present paper describes the principles of PIV measurement approaching from the analytical view, which enables to explain the general form of principles covering all the PIV measurement, and that gives theoretical basis for its higher measurement performances. The explanation of the measurement principles started from the definition of governing equation in differential form as same as the gradient method, and the integral along the particle path line was executed to show the principle of the correlation method with same basis. The integral processes clearly shows the analytical reason why the correlation peak gives the terminal point of path line, and how the effects of deformation and rotation of fluid appears in the correlation map. These results have no differences from our experiences and understandings of the conventional PIV measurement definition in final form. However, the analytical approach enable to understand those facts a priori, and it makes easy to achieve the innovative higher performances of measurement. Analytical explanation clearly shows the behavior of the residual errors caused by the fluid motion, and it enables to analyze the measurement uncertainty theoretically.

  • This paper investigates various channels through which liquidity can affect stock returns and examines whether behavioral explanation for liquidity risk is reasonable. First, we examine whether liquidity level (average liquidity) plays a significant role in determining asset returns. The result is consistent with the hypothesis that a stock with higher average illiquidity will have a higher expected return. Second, we focus on the argument that liquidity has a non-diversifiable systematic component. If systemic liquidity has a different impact across individual securities, a stock that is more sensitive to systematic liquidity will have a higher expected return. The results of various tests are inconsistent with each other, not completely supporting the argument. Finally, the intra-market tests in Korea support the behavioral explanation for the liquidity premium, and the effect is stronger in the liquidity level than in the liquidity beta related to systematic liquidity.
