The purpose of this study was to develop a sinusoidal rotatory chair systim for evaluating the vestibular function in patients suffered from vertigo with vestibualr disorders. The sinusoidal rotatory chair system is composed of a rotatory chair systim and softwares. Maximum velocity of the rotatiry chair was upto 60 degree per second and frequency range was 0.01 to 0.64 Hz. To evaluate the vestibular function in vertigo patients, vestibuloocular reflex was measured by sinusoidal rotation of the whole body about vertical axis in the darkness, and optokinetic nystagmus, visual vestibuloocular reflex , and visual supression test were also performed. Eye movement was measured by means of a electronystgmograph amplifier through Ag-AgCI surface electrodes. Gain, phase, and symmetry were obtained from analysis of the eye movement ineuced by vestibular or visual stimulation. In healthy adults, sinusoidal rotation of the shole body produced nystagmus, of which gain was directly proportional to the velocity of stimulation. The gain of visual vestibuloocular reflex or optokinetic nystagmus, and it was suppressed markedly by visual suppression test. These results suggest that the sinusoieal rotatory chair systim which was developed by this study can evaluate the vestibular function quantitatively, also this system is very useful to diagnose and to dstimate the vestibualr function during recovery from vertigo
Due to the long tectonic history and the very complex geologic formations in Korea, the anisotropic characteristics of subsurface material may often change very greatly and locally. The algorithms for the travel time computation commonly used, however, may not give sufficiently precise results particularly for the complex and strong anisotropic model, since they are based on the two-dimensional (2D) earth and/or weak anisotropy assumptions. This study is intended to develope a three-dimensional (3D) modeling algorithm to precisely calculate the first arrival time in the complex anisotropic media. We assume 3D TTI (tilted transversely isotropy) medium having the arbitrary symmetry axis. The algorithm includes the 2D non-linear interpolation scheme to calculate the traveltimes inside the grid and the 3D traveltime mapping to fill the 3D model with first arrival times. The weak anisotropy assumption, moreover, can be overcome through devising a numerical approach of the steepest descent method in the calculation of minimum traveltime, instead of using approximate solution.
A direct RTI(Rotation and translation invariant) fingerprint identification is proposed using the GCMs(generalized complex moments) and Gabor filter-based features from the grey level fingerprint around core point. The core point is located as reference point for the translation invariant matching. And its symmetry axis is detected for the rotation invariant matching from its neighboring region centered at the core point. And then, fingerprint is divided into non-overlapping blocks with respect to the core point and, in contrast to minutiae-based method using various processing steps, features are directly extracted from the blocked grey level fingerprint using Gabor filter, which provides information contained in a particular orientation in the image. The Proposed fingerprint identification is based on the Euclidean distance of the corresponding Gabor features between the input and the template fingerprint. Experiments are conducted on 300 ${\times}$ 300 fingerprints obtained from the CMOS sensor with 500 dpi resolution, and the proposed method could obtain 97% identification rate.

Discharge characteristics of linear microwave plasma were investigated by using fluid simulation of 2D axis-symmetry based on finite elements method. The microwave power was 2.45 GHz TEM mode and transmitted through linear antenna. Resistive power and pressure were considered simulation variables and argon was used for working gas. A decrease of electron density along the quartz tube was observed in low power condition but relatively uniform plasmas were generated in chamber by increasing the resistive power. The electron temperature was highly detected near the surface of quartz tube because the electron was heated only dielectric surface. The power transmission efficiency decreased and characteristics of surface plasma were observed in high electron density condition.

The lateral forces such as the earthquake and wind my cause the torsion to be coupled with the lateral bending in the gider, the cross-section of wich has only one axis of symmetry. This induces additional stresses especially in cables arranged in double-planes. Since this effect cannot be considered by using the conventional frame elements, the stiffness and the mass matrices of the geometrically nonlinear thin-walled frame element are developed in this study to model the girder. The equivalent modulus of elasticity proposed by Ernst is used for the cable elements. Verification of the present theory is made through a numerical example. Then, the free vibration of a three dimensional cable-stayed bridge is analyzed to study the coupled flexural-torsional behavior.

A body form, which experiences minimum vertical wave-exciting forces in the vicinity of a prescribed wave frequency in water of finite depth, is obtained by an approximate method. Its configuration has the symmetry with respect to the vertical axis, expressed in terms of exponential functions. By distributing three-dimensional pulsating sources and dipoles on the immersed surface of the body, a velocity potential is determined and subsequently hydrodynamic forces including the 2nd-order time-mean drift forces are calculated. The dynamic behavior of the body moored in irregular waves is investigated numerically by using central difference method. Hereby irregular wave trains are simulated with examining its repeatability by comparing the resulting spectrum with original one. Numerical results indicated that the body form obtained from the present analysis possesses in general a favorable hydrodynamic characteristics in comparison with a spherical buoy and that the maximum excursion of the body can be significantly reduced by setting pre-tension of an appropriate amount in the mooring cable.
This paper presents a comparative study of analytical method and finite element method (FEM) for analysis of a continuous contact problem. The problem consists of two elastic layers loaded by means of a rigid circular punch and resting on semi-infinite plane. It is assumed that all surfaces are frictionless and only compressive normal tractions can be transmitted through the contact areas. Firstly, analytical solution of the problem is obtained by using theory of elasticity and integral transform techniques. Then, finite element model of the problem is constituted using ANSYS software and the two dimensional analysis of the problem is carried out. The contact stresses under rigid circular punch, the contact areas, normal stresses along the axis of symmetry are obtained for both solutions. The results show that contact stresses and the normal stresses obtained from finite element method (FEM) provide boundary conditions of the problem as well as analytical results. Also, the contact areas obtained from finite element method are very close to results obtained from analytical method; disagree by 0.03-1.61%. Finally, it can be said that there is a good agreement between two methods.

Study on the electron transport coefficient in mixtures of CF4 and Ar, have been analyzed over a range of the reduced electric field strength between 0.1 and 350[Td] by the two-term approximation of the Boltzmann equation (BEq.) method and the Monte Carlo simulation (MCS). The calculations of electron swarm parameters require the knowledge of several collision cross-sections of electron beam. Thus, published momentum transfer, ionization, vibration, attachment, electronic excitation, and dissociation cross-sections of electrons for $CF_4$ and Ar, were used. The differences of the transport coefficients of electrons in $CF_4$ mixtures of Ar, have been explained by the deduced energy distribution functions for electrons and the complete collision cross-sections for electrons. The results of the Boltzmann equation and the Monte Carlo simulation have been compared with the data presented by several workers. The deduced transport coefficients for electrons agree reasonably well with the experimental and simulation data obtained by Nakamura and Hayashi. The energy distribution function of electrons in $CF_4-Ar$ mixtures shows the Maxwellian distribution for energy. That is, $f({\varepsilon})$ has the symmetrical shape whose axis of symmetry is a most probably energy. The proposed theoretical simulation techniques in this work will be useful to predict the fundamental process of charged particles and the breakdown properties of gas mixtures. A two-term approximation of the Boltzmann equation analysis and Monte Carlo simulation have been used to study electron transport coefficients.

The Sr2Co0.5Nb(Ta)0.5O4 and Sr3CoNb(Ta)O7 compounds, both with Ruddlesden-Popper structures, have been synthesized by the ceramic method at $1150^{\circ}C$ under atmospheric pressure. The crystallographic structure of the compounds was assigned to the tetr agonal system with space group 14/mmm by X-ray diffraction(XRD) Rietveld refinement. The reduced lattice volume and lattice parameters increased as the Ta with 5d substitutes for the Nb with 4d in the compounds. The Co/Nb(Ta)O bond length has been determined by X-ray absorption spectroscopic(EXAFS/XANES) analysis and the XRD refinement. The CoO6,octahedra were tetragonally distorted by elongation of Co-O bond along the c-axis. The magnetic measurement shows the compounds Sr2Co0.5Nb(Ta)0.5O4 and Sr3CoNb(Ta)O7 have paramagnetic properties and the Co ions with intermediate spin sates between high and low spins in D4h symmetry. All the compounds showed semiconducting behavior whose electrical conductivity increased with temperature up to 1000 K. The electrical conductiviy increased and the activation energy for the conduction decreased as the number of perovskite layers increased in the compounds with chemical formula An+1BnO3n+1.
The closed-form expressions of gravity, magnetic, gravity gradient tensor, and magnetic gradient tensor due to a rectangular prism are derived. The vertical gravity is derived via triple integration of a rectangular prism in Cartesian coordinates, and the two horizontal components of vector gravity are then derived via cycle permutation of the axis variables of vertical gravity through the axial symmetry of the rectangular prism. The gravity gradient tensor is obtained by differentiating the vector gravity with respect to each coordinate. Using Poisson's relation, a vector magnetic field with constant magnetic direction can be obtained from the gravity gradient tensor. Finally, the magnetic gradient tensor is derived by differentiating the vector magnetic with respect to appropriate coordinates.
