  • S. Tachibana [10] has defined a confornal Killing tensor in a n-dimensional Riemannian manifold M by a skew symmetric tensor $u_[ji}$ satisfying the equation $$ \nabla_k u_{ji} + \nabla_j u_{ki} = 2\rho_i g_{kj} - \rho_j g_{ki} - \rho_k g_{ji}, $$ where $g_{ji}$ is the metric tensor of M, $\nabla$ denotes the covariant derivative with respect to $g_{ji}$ and $\rho_i$ is a associated covector field of $u_{ji}$. In here, a covector field means a 1-form.

  • Let M be an almost Kenmotsu manifold of dimension 2n + 1 having non-vanishing -sectional curvature such that trℓ > -2n - 2. We prove that any second order parallel tensor on M is a constant multiple of the associated metric tensor and obtained some consequences of this. Vector fields keeping curvature tensor invariant are characterized on M.

  • In this paper, we study some curvature properties of Sasakian 3-manifolds associated to Ƶ-tensor. It is proved that if a Sasakian 3-manifold (M, g) satisfies one of the conditions (1) the Ƶ-tensor is of Codazzi type, (2) M is Ƶ-semisymmetric, (3) M satisfies Q(Ƶ, R) = 0, (4) M is projectively Ƶ-semisymmetric, (5) M is Ƶ-recurrent, then (M, g) is of constant curvature 1. Several consequences are drawn from these results.

  • In this paper we introduce a new tensor named semi-projective curvature tensor which generalizes the projective curvature tensor. First we deduce some basic geometric properties of semi-projective curvature tensor. Then we study pseudo semi-projective symmetric manifolds $(PSPS)_n$ which recover some known results of Chaki [5]. We provide several interesting results. Among others we prove that in a $(PSPS)_n$ if the associated vector field ${\rho}$ is a unit parallel vector field, then either the manifold reduces to a pseudosymmetric manifold or pseudo projective symmetric manifold. Moreover we deal with semi-projectively flat perfect fluid and dust fluid spacetimes respectively. As a consequence we obtain some important theorems. Next we consider the decomposability of $(PSPS)_n$. Finally, we construct a non-trivial Lorentzian metric of $(PSPS)_4$.

  • The object of the present paper is to study 3-dimensional normal almost contact metric manifolds satisfying certain curvature conditions. Among others it is proved that a parallel symmetric (0, 2) tensor field in a 3-dimensional non-cosympletic normal almost contact metric manifold is a constant multiple of the associated metric tensor and there does not exist a non-zero parallel 2-form. Also we obtain some equivalent conditions on a 3-dimensional normal almost contact metric manifold and we prove that if a 3-dimensional normal almost contact metric manifold which is not a ${\beta}$-Sasakian manifold satisfies cyclic parallel Ricci tensor, then the manifold is a manifold of constant curvature. Finally we prove the existence of such a manifold by a concrete example.

  • In the present paper, we prove that if there exists a second order parallel tensor on an almost Kenmotsu manifold with generalized $(k,{\mu})^{\prime}$-nullity distribution and $h^{\prime}{\neq}0$, then either the manifold is isometric to $H^{n+1}(-4){\times}{\mathbb{R}}^n$, or, the second order parallel tensor is a constant multiple of the associated metric tensor of $M^{2n+1}$ under certain restriction on k, ${\mu}$. Besides this, we study Ricci soliton on an almost Kenmotsu manifold with generalized $(k,{\mu})^{\prime}$-nullity distribution. Finally, we characterize such a manifold admitting generalized Ricci soliton.

  • We prove that the reduced free product of $k\;{\times}\;k$ matrix algebras over abelian $C^*$-algebras is not the minimal tensor product of reduced free products of $k\;{\times}\;k$ matrix algebras over abelian $C^*$-algebras. It is shown that the reduced group $C^*$-algebra associated with a group having the property T of Kazhdan is not isomorphic to a reduced free product of abelian $C^*$-algebras or the minimal tensor product of such reduced free products. The infinite tensor product of reduced free products of abelian $C^*$-algebras is not isomorphic to the tensor product of a nuclear $C^*$-algebra and a reduced free product of abelian $C^*$-algebra. We discuss the freeness of free product $II_1$-factors and solidity of free product $II_1$-factors weaker than that of Ozawa. We show that the freeness in a free product is related to the existence of Cartan subalgebras in free product $II_1$-factors. Finally, we give a free product factor which is not solid in the weak sense.

  • In this paper, we study a type of Riemannian manifold, namely quasi Ricci symmetric manifold. Among others, we show that the scalar curvature of a quasi Ricci symmetric manifold is constant. In addition if the manifold is Einstein, then its Ricci tensor is zero. Also we prove that if the associated vector field of a quasi Ricci symmetric manifold is either recurrent or concurrent, then its Ricci tensor is zero.

  • In this study a stretching-mapping method is proposed for calculating the materials' stretching exponents, which are to be used in quantification of the mixing effect. In this method, the mapping tensor associated with the deformation of each fluid material is first obtained. Then deformations of a lot of materials are obtained by applying the mapping tensor. The local stretching rates and their space-average values are next computed with the mapped deformations. Application to a simple time-periodic flow within a cavity shows that the method is indeed effective compared with the conventional method; i.e. the mapping method is fast and yields the same results as the conventional one.

  • The object of this paper is to classify paracontact metric ($k,{\mu}$)-spaces satisfying certain curvature conditions. We show that a paracontact metric ($k,{\mu}$)-space is Ricci semisymmetric if and only if the metric is Einstein, provided k < -1. Also we prove that a paracontact metric ($k,{\mu}$)-space is ${\phi}$-Ricci symmetric if and only if the metric is Einstein, provided $k{\neq}0$, -1. Moreover, we show that in a paracontact metric ($k,{\mu}$)-space with k < -1, a second order symmetric parallel tensor is a constant multiple of the associated metric tensor. Several consequences of these results are discussed.
