  • This study aimed to explore the direction and possibility of development of the integrated curriculum for the Gifted students in the discipline-centered curriculum perspective. To this end, the study analysed the Ontario interdisciplinary curriculum based on a Drake's Integration Model which is typical model of the discipline-centered curriculum and explored the applicability to Science Gifted Academy in Korea. Through showing the possibility of enrichment on the selected majors, integration with other disciplines and solving the future problems by the integrated curriculum centered on 'Big Idea', the Ontario interdisciplinary curriculum gave suggestions of curriculum integration within or through individual research and integrated curriculum for the Gifted. The application of the Ontario's "Introduction to Information studies" to "Information Science" in Science Gifted Academy in Korea could be obtained the conclusion that the Drake's Integration model is applied to the Gifted by the individualization of the navigation network, KDB(Knowledge-Do-Be) umbrella, and the final interdisciplinary task. From this result, we could suggest that the development of integrated curriculum for the Gifted should be considered the clarity of learning objectives for the Gifted, the plan of evaluation to demonstrate big understanding and big idea, the integration with other disciplines or real-world problem, as well as the need of teachers council for the integrated curriculum. This study is expected to be contribute to development of the integrated curriculum model for the gifted based on the their characteristics and to be utilized in Science Gifted Academy.

  • The Ministry of Education announced plans to introduce SW education to elementary and secondary schools in the 2015 curriculum. However, if we examine major foreign countries where SW education strongly implemented it is found that they stress not only coding education but also real life SW education. Especially they emphasized convergence with other different fields. Therefore, it can be concluded SW education in Korea should be differentiated based on levels of students. For the common basic curriculum, it is needed basic concepts and thinking skills of SW development, but for the enriched curriculum, it should be emphasized SW development education that can be applied to real life experiences and other difference fields as well. Therefore, it is necessary to plan SW intensive education to develop programs for the enriched program. In this study, I explored how virtual reality programming education can be applied to the level of elementary and secondary school students as an enrichment program.

  • The Schoolwide Enrichment Model(SEM) is a representative model for the gifted education. As the model seems to be more conceptual in nature, it is hard to respond to the different interests and changing needs of the gifted learners. Also it does not provide specific procedures and prescriptions in teaching-learning processes for the teachers. Therefore, SEM needs to be modified into a Systemic Model that is more flexible and procedural. The paper proposes an Instructional Systems Design(ISD) model for SEM. The Systemic Model for SEM consists of 5 major steps. These are as follows: Planning, Diagnosis, Prescription, Implementation, Evaluation. In Planning step, there is a six-stage procedure for initiating the implementation of the SEM. In Diagnosis step, there are two-phases in identifying students for participation in the SEM and assessing strengths, interests, and talents of the learners and recording in The Total Talent Portfolio(TTP). In Prescription step, Curriculum Compacting is administered as a systematic procedure for modifying thecurriculum for above-average ability students. In Implementation step, Enrichment Learning and Teaching is an instructional strategy designed to promote active engagement in learning for teachers and students. Whenever each step has completed, Evaluation step should be followed. These 5 steps are repetitive, cycling and interactive. That is, each one becomes input for the next step, process for itself, and output for the previous step. Each step is monitored through the process of Review and Revision step. In conclusion, the paper suggests six strengths of the Systemic Model for SEM; The Model (1) provides the specific procedure in teaching-learning process; 92) has interactive relations with each component; (3) can be revised continuously for creation of the most effective system; (4) can be implemented more flexibly; (5) can be developed as an unique system for each school; (6) facilitates communications between teachers and students.
