  • The study examined the relationship between six broad personality traits(i.e., HEXACO; Honesty-humility, Emotionality, eXtraversion, Agreeableness, Conscientiousness, Openness to experience), safety job performance, and traffic accidents of Korean occupational bus drivers. Based on the job performance model, we included safety participation as well as safety compliance as safety job performance. Analyses on the data from a total of 492 bus drivers showed that all HEXACO personality traits except Honesty-humility, were valid predictors for both safety compliance and safety participation. Honesty-humility was only related to safety compliance. Among the six personality traits, high conscientiousness and low emotionality were best predictors of safety job performance. As for traffic accidents, conscientiousness was a sole significant predictor. Furthermore, the mediation analysis showed that the effect of conscientiousness on traffic accidents was completely explained by safety compliance and safety participation. The implications of the current findings for practice and future research as well as the limitations of the current study were discussed.

  • Purpose - This study focuses on the voluntary performance of franchise customers as a result of inherent social motives. It examines the interplay between traits and motives, and their influence on customer citizenship behavior (CCB). Research design, data, and methodology - Empirical evidence from the responses of 288 university students, validates that individual traits are related to social motives, which provides a basis for CCB. The results suggest that social motives do influence an individual's intention to provide feedback, advocate, help, or tolerate. Structural Equation Modeling using AMOS 22 was employed to test the concept. Results - This research illustrates that extraversion has a dominant influence on affiliation motive, and agreeableness is a strong predictor of the altruism motive among franchise customers. Conclusion - All three traits have positive influence on the power motive. Power and altruism motives were found to be the main determinants of CCB in a social setting. The power motive was a better predictor of advocacy and tolerance. The altruism motive significantly predicted helping and tolerance. Feedback was only positively predicted by the affiliation motive.

This study also investigated how such subjective well-being affected behavioral intention, specifically, the intention to use the same leisure facilities again and to spread this information to acquaintances by positive word of mouth. A survey was administered to 727 research subjects selected from pre-registered panels enrolled by an online research organization. The main constructs examined in this study were measured on 5-point Likert scales using multiple items. A structural equation model was employed to verify the proposed conceptual model and the relationships among variables. The results revealed that, of the personality traits, participants high in extraversion, openness to experience, and agreeableness felt high levels of life satisfaction and positive affect, i.e. a sense of subjective well-being. Second, users who felt a high level of subjective well-being, specifically, high life satisfaction and positive affect, also indicated a high level of behavioral intention. Finally, the academic and practical implications and limitations of the study, as well as future research plans involving the personality traits underlying serious leisure experiences are discussed.
