This study is carried out to investigate the actual meal pattern of liberal high school students, who usually spend most of their time outside their homes preparing for the college entrance examination. The result of which tells the urgent need of extension and improvement in the school provision system. We select a total of 611 liberal high students in the city of Incheon, both males and females, of the first, second, and the third graders. The results are as follows; Only 39.6% of the students have breakfast and 14.7% of the students answer they always skip over breakfast. At lunch time, most of, i.e. 89.9% of the students have lunch and 80.4% of them usually carry lunch with themselves. Seniors show a tendency to have lunch quite earlier than the school-stated time, which signifies that many of seniors should bring more than one lunch to school in order not to lack enough calories. 45.8% of the students among those who do not dispense with supper take supper in the form of lunch. Many other students substitute Ra-myon for rice meal at supper time. As we can induce, the students need between-meal refreshments. 48.8% answer they have a snack more often than not, and 40.2% of them say they need a snack because of hunger. 82.1% of the students usually stay at school almost for 12 hours a day, and they mostly depend on lunch for their two meals. But lunch cannot provide balanced nutrition for them because of its restricted choice of nutrutional elements. The data above make it sure that the extension of the school provision system is really demanded. 86.6% of the students answer they feel the urgency of its operation.
The purpose of this study is to search the effective teaching-learning program by considering how affect on formation of linear function using Excel. This study was based on qualitative case study. The teaching experiment using Excel executed with five 8th graders' students for second research content. Teaching experiment was performed for two classes. Collecting the data was conducted via observations and interviews with students. The data include audio and video recording of the students' work, students' worksheets and detailed field notes. The conclusions drawn from teaching experiment are as follows: First, when students explored relevancy content of function in Excel environment, formation of concept of function was facilitated by experiencing operation of algebraic formulas, tables and graphs. We could infer that formation of concept was effected by conjecture activity and iterative process of feedback through Excel environment. Second, the students explored the changes very interestingly making algebraic formulas and presenting tables and graphs. The students were familiarized with observation on algebraic formulas, graphs and tables concurrently. Also, they tried to look for general rules through inductive observation. According to this study, we noticed that exploration teaming environment using Excel could supplement paper-and-pencil environment.

Objectives: This study aimed to examine the relations between exposure to anti-smoking promotion media and smoking, targeting middle school students who were exposed to various media of promotion. Methods: The subjects of the study were 38,820 middle school students who answered to the 2007 Korea Youth Risk Behavior Web-based Survey. Answers of 37,714 subjects were used for the final analysis except those of 1,106 that could not be used to judge anti-smoking promotion media and prevalence of smoking as they were considered insincere to the questions. We used SPSS of version 17.0. This study conducted a chi-square test to identify smoking rate according to characteristics of subjects and a multivariate logistic regression analysis to identify whether they are independently significant. Results: Smoking rate increased as the subjects were in higher grades. From the results of multivariate logistic regression, odds ratio(OR) at points 5~6 of the first graders that had never been exposed to anti-smoking promotion media was 0.49(95% CI=0.33-0.74), which was significantly low. And OR at points 5~6 of the third graders was 0.57(95% CI=0.43-0.76), significantly low. Conclusions: This study identified the relations between exposure to anti-smoking promotion media and smoking of middle school students in Korea.
The purpose of this study was to analyze the effects of wearing lab coats on science-related attitudes of elementary school students in science learning. In addition, we analyzed the effects of wearing lab coats on perceptions of the authenticity of school science activities and the necessity of wearing lab coats. Samples of the study were composed of 4 classes of 92 fifth graders in Seoul, Korea. Unit of 'Temperature and Heat' was selected as a object of the research. The major results of the study are as follows. First, for the independent t-test of science-related attitudes, a statistically significant difference between the experimental group and the comparative group was found. Second, 9 students (9.78%) were more than 1SD above the average of the difference between the results of pre and post. Seven of them were experimental group students and two were comparative group students. Third, there was a statistically significant difference between the comparison group and the experimental group as a result of the perception test of the similarity of the scientific activity of the elementary school students and the scientific activity of the scientists. Fourth, there was no statistically significant difference between the comparison group and the experimental group as a result of the perception test of the necessity of wearing a lab coat. Based on these findings of this study, implications for science education research and teaching and learning at school are discussed.
We investigated gifted students' scientific integrity, perception of scientific misconduct and needs for research ethics education. For this study, 267 science academy students who have participated in R&E program responded to questionnaire of those three parts. The major findings are as follows: First, 45.31% of gifted students answered that they had one or more experiences in five categories; fabrication, falsification, plagiarism, unfair authorship, and connivance of scientific misconduct. Second, almost 90% of gifted students responded that statements of questions are scientific misconduct except the self plagiarism. Third, 28.83% of gifted students needed to study research ethics and all of them were 1st graders. Fourth, they wanted to know specifically the limit of apt citation, writing skills of research notes, specific examples of scientific misconduct, and concrete acting method for scientific integrity, etc. In order to get gifted students to conduct their research responsibly, educators have to consider and reflect the voice of gifted students.

In order to explore the learning attitude of the learners and the effects of conscious learning attitudes on academic achievement in On-line education system of open high school, we analyze the log data of 2,965 first graders who studied English, Math, Integrated Society and Integrated Science during the first semester of 2018. This study examines the learning status according to the learner's background variables, and analyzes the number of lessons per hour, learning progress rate, learning period, learning start month, and formative evaluation results for each class. In addition, to verify the effects of conscious learning attitude on academic achievement, skewness and kurtosis are calculated by using learning frequency values for each class. As a result, in almost all fields, the average number of lessons per class, study duration, progress rate, and grades, women are higher than men. In addition, the older ones are, the higher they are and the Seoul area is higher than the other area. The average learning period is 2~3 months, and the longer the learning period, the higher the formative evaluation score. Lastly, even though the number of learning is lower than that of learners who concentrate on a certain period of time, the formation scores of learners who learn consciously are higher.
Based on the thinking that people can understand more clearly when the problem is related with their prior knowledge, the Purpose of this study was to analysis students' informal knowledge, which is constructed through their mathematical experience in the context of real-world situations. According to this purpose, the following research questions were. 1) What is the characteristics of students' informal knowledge about fraction before formal fraction instruction in school? 2) What is the difference of informal knowledge of fraction according to reasoning ability and grade. To investigate these questions, 18 children of first, second and third grade(6 children per each grade) in C elementary school were selected. Among the various concept of fraction, part-whole fraction, quotient fraction, ratio fraction and measure fraction were selected for the interview. I recorded the interview on digital camera, drew up a protocol about interview contents, and analyzed and discussed them after numbering and comment. The conclusions are as follows: First, students already constructed informal knowledge before they learned formal knowledge about fraction. Among students' informal knowledge they knew correct concepts based on formal knowledge, but they also have ideas that would lead to misconceptions. Second, the informal knowledge constructed by children were different according to grade. This is because the informal knowledge is influenced by various experience on learning and everyday life. And the students having higher reasoning ability represented higher levels of knowledge. Third, because children are using informal knowledge from everyday life to learn formal knowledge, we should use these informal knowledge to instruct more efficiently.
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of constructivist instruction on science inquiry skills and science-related attitudes, and to investigate the students' responses to the lesson using constructivist instruction. In this study, 108 students of sixth graders from four classes were intentionally selected from two elementary schools located in Gyungsan city, Kyungsangbukdo. Two classes of 54 students were used by the constructivist teaching program and the other two classes were handled by the traditional teaching program. Two teachers who have twenty years' careers guided the program prepared by researcher to the students and this examination was conducted for 8 weeks (total 20 class hours). In pretest and posttest, both groups were tested in the science inquiry skills and science-related attitudes. An interview and questionnaire for the students analyzed the responses about the constructivist instruction. The major results of this study are as follows: First, in science inquiry skills test, there was no statistical significance between the score of the experimental group and that of the comparative group(p>.05). The ability of formulating problem in the experimental group was significantly higher than that in the comparative group at 0.05 level. In pretest and posttest, the experimental group was statistically significant on classifying, formulating problem, interpreting data, while the comparative group was not significant on those. Second, we can find that the experimental group has more positive effect on forming the desirable science-related attitudes than the comparative group(p<.05). Especially, experimental group is significantly higher the attitudes about the science curriculum than the comparative group at 0.05 level Third, constructivist instruction has more affirmative tendency of the students' learning activity. Constructivist instruction generated much interest and curiosity about science for the students, and this method prompted students' expression and discussion.
The purpose of this research is to investigate the effect of students' storytelling on the science learning motivation and science related attitude in elementary science class. We had developed storytelling materials for 11 class hours on the 'Heat transfer and our life' unit based on the analysis of the 4th grade-science curriculum. The research sample was 22 4th graders who were belonged to one of the classes at an elementary school in Gwangju. The test of students' science learning motivation and science related attitude were administered before and after the storytelling treatment, and the difference was checked by the paired t-test using SPSS program. Students' perceptions on the storytelling were also investigated. The conclusions of this research are as follows. First, the students' storytelling tend to have somewhat positive influence on learning motivation. The each mean of post-test in the domain of attention, confidence and satisfaction was significantly higher than that of pre-test. Second, students' storytelling have a positive influence on scientific attitude. Although the means of post-test were higher than those of pre-test in both science subject attitude and scientific attitude domain, a statistically significant difference was found only in the scientific attitude domain. For future researches, the development of more story-materials or strategies for effective storytelling is needed.
The purpose of this study is to research middle school student's reading problem and to suggest how to improve their reading competence through the use of the NIE. For this research, we proposed three research questions of study as below. First, what difference is there in English reading competence between experimental and control group? Second, what difference is there in the English reading competence according to English proficiency? Third, what are the effects of interest and satisfaction through NIE? The subject of a sample was 34 experimental group and 36 control group, total 70 eighth graders in Kwangju. The experimental group had been taught through NIE for 10 weeks. Grammar Translation Method was applied while teaching English to the control group. The data analyzing method was t-test through the statistics program SPSS12.0. Based on the result of this study, NIE approach was effective in improving the students' reading competence. Most of the students who were taught reading by NIE responded that they had more interest and satisfaction in the reading lesson.
