  • Properties of multivariate Shewhart and EWMA (Exponentially Weighted Moving Average) control charts for monitoring variance-covariance matrix of quality variables are investigated. Performances of the proposed charts are evaluated for matched fixed sampling interval (FSI) and variable sampling interval (VSI) charts in terms of average time to signal (ATS) and average number of samples to signal (ANSS). Average number of swiches (ANSW) of the proposed VSI charts are also investigated.

  • A quality inspection procedure interchangeably using the performance and screening variables is proposed. At the start of the inspection, the performance variable is measured for all items. As soon as i consecutive items are found to be free of defects, the screening variable is measured instead of the performance variable. If an item is rejected, the inspection based on the performance variable is resumed. All nonconforming items found in the inspection are either reworked or replaced with conforming items. It is assumed that the performance variable is dichotomous, and the screening variable given the performance variable is normally distributed with known mean and variance. The average outgoing quality (AOQ) expression is derived, and the methods of finding the inspection procedure with a specified average outgoing quality limit (AOQL) are presented.

If an item is rejected, the inspection based on the performance variable is resumed. • Recently, 8 kb/s CS-ACELP coder of G.729 is atandardized by ITU-T SG15 and it has been reported that the speech quality of G729 is better than or equal to that of 32kb/s ADPCM. However G.729 is the fixed rate speech coder, and it does not consider the property of voice activity in mutual conversation. If we use the voice activity, we can reduce the average bit rate in half without any degradations of the speech quality. In this paper, we propose an efficient variable rate algorithm for G.729. The variable rate algorithm consists of two main subjects, the rate determination algorithm and algorithm, we combine the energy-thresholding method, the phonetic segmentation method by integration of various feature parameters obtained through the analysis procedure, and the variable hangover period method. Through the analysis of noise features, the 1 kb/s sub rate coder is designed for coding the background noise signal. So, we design the 4 kb/s sub rate coder for the unvoiced parts. The performance of the variable rate algorithm is evaluated by the comparison of speed quality and average bit rate with G.729. Subjective quality test is also done by MOS test. Conclusively, it is verified that the proposed variable rate CS-ACELP coder produced the same speech quality as G.729, at the average bit rate of 4.4 kb/s.

  • The variable sampling rates scheme is proposed by taking random sample size and sampling interval during the process. The performance of the scheme is measured in terms of the average time to signal adjusted by teh sampling cost when the process is out of control. This measurement evaluates the effectiveness of the scheme in terms of the cost incurred due to nonconformation as well as sampling. The variable sampling rates scheme is shown to be effective especially for small and moderate shifts of the mean when compared to the standard scheme.

  • Properties of multivariate variable sampling interval (VSI) Shewhart and CUSUM charts for monitoring mean vector of related quality variables are investigated. To evaluate average time to signal (ATS) and average number of switches (ANSW) of the proposed charts, Markov chain approaches and simulations are applied. Performances of the proposed charts are also investigated both when the process is in-control and when it is out-of-control.

  • In this paper, we propose a new construction algorithm for the reversible variable-length code (RVLC) using a simplified average length function of the optimal Huffman code. RVLC is introduced as one of the error resilience tools in H.263+ and MPEG-4 owing to its error-correcting capability. The proposed algorithm demonstrates an improved performance in terms of the average codeword length over the existing HVLC algorithms.

  • This paper reviews the definition of highly variable drug(HVD), the present regulatory recommendations and the approaches proposed in the literature to deal with the bioequivalence issues of HVD. The concept and the statistical approach of scaled average bioequivalence(SABE) is introduced and discussed with the current regulatory methods. The recommendations for SABE approach are proposed and the further study topics related to HVDs are also presented.

  • An economic design of the $\bar{X}-R$ chart using variable sample size (VSS) scheme is proposed in this paper. In this design the sample size at each sampling time changes according to the values of the previous two sample statistics, sample mean and range. The VSS scheme uses large sample if the sample statistics appear near inside the control limits and smaller sample otherwise. The set of process parameters, such as the sampling interval, control limits and the sample sizes, are chosen to minimize the expected cost per hour. The efficiency of the VSS scheme is compared to the fixed sample size one for cases where there is multiple of assignable causes. Percent reductions of the expected cost in the VSS design are calculated for some given sets of cost parameters. It is shown that the VSS scheme improves the confidence of the procedure and performs statistically better in terms of the number of false alarms and the average time to signal, respectively.

  • Multivariate exponentially weighted moving average (EWMA) control charts for monitoring the variance-covariance matrix are investigated. A variable sampling interval (VSI) feature is considered in these charts. Multivariate EWMA control charts for monitoring the variance-covariance matrix are compared on the basis of their average time to signal (ATS) performances. The numerical results show that multivariate VSI EWMA control charts are more efficient than corrsponding multivariate fixed sampling interval (FSI) EWMA control charts.
