  • For the high speed drive of induction machine, Thyristor inverter utilizing line and device commutation is proposed. By investigating the load commutation conditions, the possible area of commutation is clearly shown. And from the above results, starting method under the constant slip frequency, is suggested.

  • A large number of methods for the design optimization have been proposed in recent years. However, it is not easy to apply these methods to practical use because of many iterations. So, in the design optimization, physical and engineering investigation of the given model are very important, which results in an overall increase in the optimization speed. This paper describes a novel optimization procedure utilizing the conformal transformation method. This approach consists of two phases and has the advantage of grasping the physical phenomena of the model easily. Some numerical results that demonstrate the validity of the proposed method are also presented.

  • This paper deals with the prediction and the evaluation of the measured seismic responses of the Hualien large-scale seismic test soil-structure system. The predicted analysis was carried out for the model structure by the computer code SASSI utilizing soil properties derived from geotechnical investigations and correlation analysis of recorded earthquake responses of soil. Utilizing the soil properties, seismic responses were predicted and compared with measured ones. The nonlinear effects of soil on structural responses were also evaluated.

  • The CALS integrated database is a key information technology in which CALS implements an information sharing system to enable digital data transfers for technical and non-technical information in distributed and heterogeneous environments. Such heterogeneously distributed CALS information needs to be systematically incorporated so that it can provide a global data view for CALS users. In this paper, we investigated the technologies of CALS integrated database, and proposed a system prototype to implement an integrated data environment (IDE) utilizing distributed object environments CORBA (Common Object Request Broker Architecture).

  • In this paper, an EMG (Electromyography) sensor for utilizing an EMGl-based HCI are described. The EMG sensor is a dry type and has high gain (1000-10000). Therefore, this sensor can be properly applied to HCI devices using EMG signals without additional amplification circuit.

  • An alternative panel flutter approach utilizing minimum angle is presented. The minimum angle is the lowest value among the angles between modes i and j at a certain pressure condition. This method utilizes eigenvectors rather than eigenvalues. Cross-ply composite plates are considered in this study. A remarkable result of this investigation is that the angle always dropped gradually to zero for all presented examples

  • We study a continuous data assimilation algorithm for the three-dimensional simplified Bardina model utilizing measurements of only two components of the velocity field. Under suitable conditions on the relaxation (nudging) parameter and the spatial mesh resolution, we obtain an asymptotic in time estimate of the difference between the approximating solution and the unknown reference solution corresponding to the measurements, in an appropriate norm, which shows exponential convergence up to zero.
