  • User Experience (UX) and Experience Innovation have been emphasized in the process of New Product Development (NPD). However, previous works which were conducted within the theme of UX mostly focused on the fragmentary aspects of user's experience in a specific usage-context only. For this reason, it is always hard to deal with questions on how to define the abstract concept of UX and how to apply this important keyword in actually NPD process both for satisfying potential users and for setting a market strategy. To address this issue, we focused on the fact that UX has an aspect of composition like pattern and structure. It means that we can understand the context of UX with clarifying characteristics of relations between user and experiential objects. Also, we referred to two sub-concepts of Complexity, Density and Centrality, as representative characteristics of relations in usage-context. Based on this theoretical background, we attempted to find UX design principles and concepts for NPD from the actual example cases of products and services in the real market. From these whole study process, we expect that our findings could have implications for academic and practical areas within the theme of Human-Centered Innovation.

  • Objectives: To characterize the usage patterns of new types of tobacco products (NTTPs) to develop effective strategies for the regulation of NTTPs in Korea. Methods: We conducted focus group interviews to identify the NTTP usage patterns of research subjects. The NTTPs were limited to electronic cigarettes (e-cigarettes), waterpipe tobacco, and rolling tobacco. We categorized 30 research subjects into 4 groups. The ecigarette group was divided into adult and adolescent groups. Each group contained 7-8 subjects. An interview lasting approximately 2 hours was conducted with each group. Results: Ninety percent of NTTP users used an NTTP in combination with conventional cigarettes. Subjects mostly bought NTTPs online, unlike how they bought cigarettes. Additionally, a great deal of information, such as how to use NTTPs and descriptions of NTTP products, was exchanged through online or offline societies. The primary reason why the subjects used NTTPs was that NTTPs offer a greater range of flavors and aromas than cigarettes. Moreover, NTTPs were felt to be less repulsive than cigarettes. NTTPs were not used as a cigarette substitute; rather, they were mostly used in places and situations where traditional cigarette smoking was not allowed. Conclusions: Based on the results of this study, the government should conduct studies on the effects of the combined use of NTTPs and cigarettes on the human body, obtain and provide accurate data regarding NTTP use, and develop and implement polices to ban NTTP advertising, which may arouse adolescents' curiosity, and the addition of flavoring substances to tobacco products.

  • This study mainly focused on measuring the impact of comments for a particular song on the number of streamings and downloads. We modeled multiple regression equations to perform this analysis. We chose digital music market for the object of analysis because of its inherent characteristics, such as experience goods, high bandwagon effect, and so on. We carefully utilized text mining technique in accordance with the algorithm of Naïve Bayes classifier to distinguish whether a comment for a piece of music be regarded as positive or negative. In addition, we used 'size of agency' and 'existence of hit song' as moderating variables. The reason for usage of those variables is that those are assumed to affect users' decision for selecting particular song especially when downloading or streaming via music sites. We found empirical evidences that positive comments for a particular song increase the number of both downloads and streamings. However, positive comments may decrease the number of downloads when the size of agency of the artist is big. As a result, we were able to say that a positive comment for a particular song functioned as 'word-of-mouth' effect, inducing other users' behavioral response. We also found that other features of an artist such as size of the agency that the artist belongs to functioned as an external factor along with feature of the song itself.

  • This paper studied why middle-aged group is using active wear as casual wear. First, we can think of 'comfort', 'ideal body shape', 'trend', 'functionality', 'economy' for the reasons. We categorized the incentives as 'comfort/functionality pursuits', 'trend/economy pursuits', and 'ideal body shape pursuits'. Studies showed that statistically significant number of men pursue comfort and functionality, and statically significant number of women pursue trend and economy. Second, this study shows that the number of consumers who use the active wear in daily lives is greater than that of those who use it only for outdoor activities. The difference was statistically significant in T-shirts and pants. The most frequent usage was in social activities, and the next frequent usage was in cultural activities. The reason is that currently, middle-aged consumers are actively participating in social gatherings than any other activities. Especially, considering that the men wear active wear more than the women do, development of the product as men's casual wear that is compatible with other apparels will be necessary. We expect this study will be used as the preliminary data for a marketing strategy targeting the middle-ages.

  • AI assistant, a software interface designed to interact with a user in a natural way and perform specific tasks on the user's behalf, receives increasing attention from both scholars and practitioners. While most of the literatures explain about technical aspects, little is known about the social and psychological factors that intimately influence consumers when using it. This study sheds light on the reason people use AI assistant and how perceived values influence on intention of continuous usage. A total of 361 AI assistant users participated in an online survey, and all were recruited from a major online panel in South Korea. The results from the principal component analysis suggest five social and psychological motives: self-expression, quality of life, entertainment, information, and compatibility. In addition, perceived values, informativeness, entertainment, and trustworthiness, positively predict the intention to use AI assistant. This research provides theoretical contributions from finding motivations of AI assistant usage and from the effects of perceived values on the intention to use it. Practical implications should not be overlooked in this ever-expanding AI industry.
