A Self-Excited Induction Generator with Simple Voltage Regulation Suitable for Wind Energy

  • In this paper, a three-phase induction machine-based wind power generation scheme is proposed. This scheme uses a low-cost diode bridge rectifier circuit connected to an induction machine via an ac load voltage regulator (AC-LVR) to regulate dc power transfer. The AC-LVR is used to regulate the DC load voltage of the diode bridge rectifier circuit which is connected to the three-phase self-excited induction generator (SEIG). The excitation of the three-phase SEIG is supplied by the static VAR compensator (SVC). This simple method for obtaining a full variable-speed wind turbine system by applying a back-to-back power converter to a wound rotor induction generator is useful for wind power generation at widely varying speeds. The dynamic performance responses and the experimental results of connecting a 5kW 220V three-phase SEIG directly to a diode bridge rectifier are presented for various loads. Moreover, the steady-state simulated and experimental results of the PI closed-loop feedback voltage regulation scheme prove the practical effectiveness of these simple methods for use with a wind turbine system.

  • This paper investigates an economic and highly efficient power converter topology and its modulation scheme for 60kW rapid EV charger system. The target system consists of three-phase three-switch buck-type rectifier topology. A new Carrier Based PWM scheme along with its simple implementation using logic gates is introduced in this paper. This PWM scheme replaces the diode rectifier equivalent switching state with an active switching state producing the effectively same current flowing path. As a result, the distortion of input current during the polarity reversal of capacitor line voltage can be mitigated. The proposed modulation technique is confirmed through simulation verification. The proposed modulation technique and its implementation scheme can expand the operation range of the three-phase three-switch buck-type rectifier having ac input and capacitor ripple current of high quality.

  • 본 논문에서는 2대의 다이오드 정류기에 부스트 컨버터를 이용하여 전류의 파형을 능동적으로 만들어 정현파의 입력전류를 얻는 새로운 방식의 고조파 저감방식을 제안한다. 제안한 방식으로 고역률의 전원 품질을 얻을 수 있으며 입력측의 변동에 대한 출력전압의 조정도 가능하다. 또한 저감된 용량을 갖는 3상 오토트랜스포머의 사용으로 기존의 $\Delta$-Y 변압기에 비해 KVA정격이 75% 절감되며 상간변압기도 필요 없다. 본 방식을 소형화와 고품질의 전원이 요구되는 통신용 정류기등에 적용하면 효과적이다. 제안한 방식의 동작원리, 제어 및 설계방법을 기술하고 1.5KW급 시작품으로부터의 실험결과를 제시한다.

  • This paper proposes a three-phase three-switch buck-type converter as the MSC of a wind turbine system. Owing to a novel switching modulation scheme that can eliminate the unwanted diode rectifier mode switching state, the proposed system exhibits a satisfying ac voltage and current waveform quality and torque ripple up to the level of a typical current source rectifier even under a wide power factor operating range. The proposed system has been verified through simulations and HILS tests on a PMSG wind turbine model of 5MW/4160V. The proposed converter has been shown to provide a stator current THD of 3.9% and a torque ripple of 1% under the rated power condition. In addition to the inherent advantage of the reduced switch count of three-phase three-switch buck-type converters, the proposed switching modulation technique can make this converter a viable solution for the MSC placed inside of a nacelle, which is under severe volume, weight and mechanical vibration design limits.

  • This paper proposes a new three-phase diode rectifier system with a sinusoidal input current at unity power factor and a regulated and isolated output voltage at low level. The inherent natural wave-shaping capability of the reduced kVA polyphase transformer together with an active current wave-shaping technique results in a significant reduction of input and output filter requirements associated with switching ripple and EMI. The operation principles are described along with a design example and a comparative evaluation. Experimental results on a 1.5kW prototype are provided to validate the proposed concept.

  • In this paper, a further improved system obtaining very low distorted waveforms of input ac currents of three phase rectifier circuit is proposed. The proposed system consists of an uncomplicated 24 pulse diode bridge rectifier that is transformerless, by adding only switching circuit which consists of two switchs to conventional system. Also to optimum the effectiveness or the harmonic reduction, the optimum turn ratio of an autotransformer and the optimum switching control angle are decided by computer simulation. And then, the voltage waveform obtained has a total harmonic distortion of 8.1%, and the predominant harmonics 23th and 25th. This paper describes operation principle, analysis of the waveforms of input voltage and current. The theoretial results are verified through simulation.

  • In this paper, The characteristic of Harmonic spectrum is studied for generally used three-phase diode rectifier. and filter design criteria is showen in the sense of THD, DPF, and PF. As the becoming of Automative and informative era, the demand of critical and stable control becomes more and more important. But much EMI emissions are generated for more critical and stable control in power electronic system these EMI emissions can be measured using LISN(Line Impedance Stabilization Network). So we are to investigate the behavior of Conducted EMI emission in Diode Rectifiers using LISN in frequency domain.

Utilization of Active Diodes in Self-powered Sensorless Three-phase Boost-rectifiers for Energy Harvesting Applications

  • The main contribution of this paper is the use of sensorless active diodes to generate the gate signals for a three-phase boost-rectifier with a self-powered control scheme. The sensorless operation is achieved making use of the gate control signals generated by the active diode schemes on each of the switching devices using a pulse width half-controlled boost rectifier modulation technique (PWM-HCBR). The proposed scheme synchronizes the gate control signals with a three phase voltage supply. Autonomous operation is obtained making use of the output DC bus to feed the control circuitry, the active diodes and the driver circuitry. The three-phase boost-rectifier is supplied by a three-phase permanent magnet electric generator powered by a solar concentrator dish with variable voltage and variable frequency conditions. Experimental results report an efficiency of up to 94.6% for 25 W and an input of 3.6 V peak per phase with 450.
