High Temeprature Strength Property of Continuous SiC Fiber Reinforced SiC Matrix Composites (SiC 장섬유 강화 SiC 기지 복합재료의 고온강도 특성)

  • The mechanical properties of $SiC_f/SiC$ composites reinforced with continuous SiC fiber have been investigated in conjunction with the detailed analysis of their microstructures. Especially, the effect of test temperature on the characterization of $SiC_f/SiC$ composites was examined. In this composite system, a braiding Hi-Nicalon SiC fibric was selected as a reinforcement. $SiC_f/SiC$ composites have been fabricated by the reaction sintering process, using the complex matrix slurry with a constant composition ratio of SiC and C particles. The characterization of $RS-SiC_f/SiC$ composites was investigated by means of SEM, EDS and three point bending test. Based on the mechanical property-microstructure correlation, the high temperature applicability of $RS-SiC_f/SiC$ composites was discussed.

Effect of Cooperative and Selection Relaying Schemes on Multiuser Diversity in Downlink Cellular Systems with Relays

  • In this paper, we investigate the effect of cooperative and selection relaying schemes on multiuser diversity in downlink cellular systems with fixed relay stations (RSs). Each mobile station (MS) is either directly connected to a base station (BS) and/or connected to a relay station. We first derive closed-form solutions or upper-bound of the ergodic and outage capacities of four different downlink data relaying schemes: A direct scheme, a relay scheme, a selection scheme, and a cooperative scheme. The selection scheme selects the best access link between the BS and an MS. For all schemes, the capacity of the BS-RS link is assumed to be always larger than that of RS-MS link. Half-duplex channel use and repetition based relaying schemes are assumed for relaying operations. We also analyze the system capacity in a multiuser diversity environment in which a maximum signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) scheduler is used at a base station. The result shows that the selection scheme outperforms the other three schemes in terms of link ergodic capacity, link outage capacity, and system ergodic capacity. Furthermore, our results show that cooperative and selection diversity techniques limit the performance gain that could have been achieved by the multiuser diversity technique.

  • Characteristics of a guitar sound changes according to the internal structure a guitar. The developed system uses a PC to analyze a guitar sound, which will have different characteristics in accordance with the internal structure of the guitar and the material that the guitar made, and make a data base. The developed system consist of three parts; a mechanical body which holds a guitar and the internal structure of the guitar can be changed easily; DSP sound acquisition boards which have multi channel sound input and A/D converting abilities with RS232C data transfer to PC abilities; and software which runs on a PC to analyze the input sound and make a data base.

  • In this paper, we implement a real time speaker close-up system using lip motion information from input images having some people. After detecting a speaker from input moving pictures through one color CCD camera, the other camera closes up the speaker by using lip motion information. The implemented system detects a face and lip area of each person by means of a facial color and a morphological information, and then finds out a speaker by using lip area variation. A PTZ(Pan/Tilt/Zoom) camera is used in order to close up the detected speaker and it is controlled by RS-232C serial port. Consequently, we can exactly detect a speaker in input moving pictures including more than three people.

Plant Growth-Promoting Trait of Rhizobacteria Isolated from Soil Contaminated with Petroleum and Heavy Metals

  • Three hundred and seventy-four rhizobacteria were isolated from the rhizosphere soil (RS) or rhizoplane (RP) of Echinochloa crus-galli, Carex leiorhyncha, Commelina communis, Persicaria lapathifolia, Carex kobomugi, and Equisetum arvense, grown in contaminated soil with petroleum and heavy metals. The isolates were screened for plant growth-promoting trait (PGPT), including indole acetic acid (IAA) productivity, 1-aminocyclopropane-1-carboxylic acid (ACC) deaminase activity, and siderophore(s) synthesis ability. IAA production was detected in 86 isolates (23.0%), ACC deaminase activity in 168 isolates (44.9%), and siderophore(s) synthesis in 213 isolates (57.0%). Among the rhizobacteria showing PGPT, 162 isolates had multiple traits showing more than two types of PGPT. The PGPT-possesing rhizobacteria were more abundant in the RP (82%) samples than the RS (75%). There was a negative correlation (-0.656, p<0.05) between the IAA producers and the ACC deaminase producers. Clustering analysis by principal component analysis showed that RP was the most important factor influencing the ecological distribution and physiological characterization of PGPT-possesing rhizobacteria.

  • In this paper, we describe the intrabed network in a patient monitoring system we developed The intrabed network handles data communication between the main unit of a bedside patient monitor and parameter modules plugged in it. We designed the intrabed network based on RS-485 and HDLC protocol with 1 Mbps data rate. Message exchanges are implemented based on three data structures of packet frame. and stream. We present the specification and the performance of the data communication network for the developed patient monitor.

Sequence Variations in the Non-Coding Sequence of CTX Phages in Vibrio cholerae

  • This study focused on the variations in the non-coding sequences between ctxB and rstR of various CTX phages. The non-coding sequences of CTX-1 and CTX-cla are phage type-specific. The length of the non-coding region of CTX-1 and CTX-cla is 601 and 730 nucleotides, respectively. The non-coding sequence of CTX phage could be divided into three regions. There is a phage type-specific Variable region between two homologous Common regions (Common regions 1 and 2). The non-coding sequence of RS1 element is similar to CTX-1 except that Common region 1 is replaced by a short RS1-specific sequence. The non-coding sequences of CTX-2 and CTX-cla are homologous, indicating the non-coding sequence of CTX-2 is derived from CTX-cla. The non-coding region of CTX-O139 is similar to CTX-cla and CTX-2; however, it contains an extra phage type-specific sequence between Common region 2 and rstR. The variations in the non-coding sequences of CTX phages might be associated with the difference in the replication efficiency and the directionality in the integration into the V. cholerae chromosome.

  • The whole genome sequencing using PacBio RS II platform was performed for a marine bacterium Pseudoalteromonas donghaensis $HJ51^T$ isolated from East Sea of Korea. As a result, three assembled contigs consisting of a chromosome (size of 3,646,857 bp, and G + C content of 41.8%) and two plasmids (size of 842,855 bp and 244,204 bp, and G + C content of 41.3% and 40.4%, respectively) were obtained. The genome included 4,083 protein coding genes and 127 RNA genes. This result could be used for gene sources of biopolymers degradation and the development as a new host with secretion system similar to Escherichia coli.

Secure Steganographic Algorithm against Statistical analyses (통계분석에 강인한 심층 암호)

  • Westfeld analyzed a sequential LSB embedding steganography effectively through the $\chi$$^2$statistical test which measures the frequencies of PoVs(pairs of values). Fridrich also proposed another statistical analysis, so-called RS steganalysis by which the embedding message rate can be estimated. This method is based on the partition of pixels as three groups; Regular, Singular, Unusable groups. In this paper, we propose a new steganographic scheme which preserves the above two statistics. The proposed scheme embeds the secret message in the innocent image by randomly adding one to real pixel value or subtracting one from it, then adjusts the statistical measures to equal those of the original image.

Robustness of Selection Indices in Murrah Buffaloes

  • Data pertaining to first lactation records of 316 Murrah buffaloes, progeny of 47 sires, maintained at NDRI Farm for a period of 18 years were analysed to construct selection indices and to examine their robustness by changing the relative economic values of different economic traits. A total of 120 selection indices were constructed for three sets of relative economic values ( 40 for each set) considering different combinations of seven first lactation traits viz. age at first calving (AFC), first lactation 305 day or less milk yield (FLMY), first lactation length (FLL), first calving interval (FCI), milk yield per day of first lactation length (MY/FLL), milk yield per day of first calving interval (MY/FCI) and milk yield per day age at second calving (MY/ASC). The three sets of relative economic values were based on economic values of different traits, 1% standard deviation of different traits and regression of different traits on FLMY. The 'optimum' indices for the first two sets had five traits each namely AFC, FLMY, FLL, FCI and MY/ASC giving improvement in aggregate genotype of Rupees 269.11 and Rs. 174.88, respectively. The accuracy of selection from both indices was 70.79 and 69.39%, respectively. The 'best' selection index from the third set of data again had five traits (AFC, FLMY, FLL, FCI and MY/FLL) giving genetic gain of Rs. 124.16 and accuracy of selection of 71.81%. The critcal levels or break-even points for FLMY for varying levels of AFC and FCI estimated from the "optimum index" suggested the need of enhancement of present production level of the herd or reduction of AFC or FCI. It was concluded that economic values of various first lactation traits were the most appropriate to construct selection indices as compared to other criteria of assigning relative economic weights in Murrah buffaloes.
