  • The purpose of this study was to identify factors that influenced elementary school teachers in choosing websites that support science teaching and learning. The participants of this study were four elementary school teachers. The data was collected through semi-constructed and in-depth interview. The results of the research are as follows: First, the individual factors that influenced participants to choose a website were teacher's thinking about appropriate science teaching and learning methods and teacher's lack of ability to prepare science lessons. Second, the surroundings factors were the image of the teachers using the website, the formation of consensus, belonging to the peer teachers, and students' preferences and interests. Third, participants chose a website where they could provide ideas for science lessons that are not available in textbooks and instructional materials for all subjects, and see stories and tips related to teaching career. In addition, the website was selected according to whether the developer of science instructional materials was a teacher, whether the materials uploaded on the website were up-to-date, and whether the teachers can learn by themselves to prepare for the science class. Fourth, participants considered the design and interactivity of the website and chose a website that is easy to search for information. Finally, we suggested the implications for building the websites that support science teaching and learning.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate pre-service science teachers' motivation factor and satisfaction of teaching choice in Korea. For this purpose, we surveyed 815 pre-service science teachers in 11 universities in Korea. The questionnaire used in this study was the FIT-Choice scale (Factors Influencing Teaching-Choice) developed by Richardson and Watt (2006). The most significant factor in choosing teaching science as a profession was 'intrinsic value,' followed by 'social utility value,' but lower than the average of other countries in the previous research results. The confidence in teaching professions was low because the percentage of respondents about 'ability' was low and 'task demand' was high. Satisfaction with teaching choice was 5.36, and it is lower than the average of responses in Australia and USA. As for the differences according to gender, male pre-service teachers responded that they chose teaching because they have the proper ability to teach, while female pre-service teachers perceived that the influence of others was greater. Also, female pre-service teachers felt the burden of job such as hard work and emotional demands more than men. Finally, the motivation which showed the highest correlation with the satisfaction of choosing to teach was the intrinsic value. Therefore, finding ways to increase the intrinsic/social utility motivation for pre-service science teachers and differentiated approach considering gender differences are needed.

  • Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a relatively common condition of childhood onset and is of significant educational and social concern in elementary school. Investigating the determinants of teachers' attitudes and behavior and their relative importance is crucial for improving teaching practices and initial teacher education for effective inclusion of ADHD children. Based on two hundred and twenty seven survey responses from elementary school teachers, having experienced in dealing with ADHD students, this paper examines the age, gender, career and training-hours effects on the knowledge, attitude, stress and inclusive education involving ADHD children. The regression analysis shows that the gender influences the level of stress and that the training hours has some impact on the knowledge about ADHD at 5% significance level. However, the number of ADHD children experienced, age, gender, career and training-hours were identified as the non-significant predictors of teaching behavior in relation to ADHD children. As a conclusion, a brief discussion concerning the critical needs of elementary school teachers is also presented.

Second, is there any significant difference in stages of concern the teachers on performance assessment according to their gender, education level and teaching career? Third, which level of use is shown by middle school teachers who implement performance assessment? Fourth, what is the correlation between middle school teachers' Stages of Concern and Levels of Use on performance assessment? This study was conducted based on a Concerns-Based Adoption Model (Hall, 1973; CBAM) that viewed teachers as the most primary factor of the execution of innovation, in this case, performance assessment. Performance assessment is assessment based on observation and judgement (Stiggins, 1994), and require test takers to complete a process or produce a product in a context that closely resembles real-life situations. The subjects of this study were randomly sampled from 120 middle school teachers throughout Bei-Jing, China. The questionnaires were distributed to them by mail, and they were asked to return their questionnaire by mail. The collect data were analyzed by SPSS/WIN 18.0 program in terms of frequency, correlation, or MANOVA. Frequency analysis was used to analyze concern of middle school teachers on performance assessment. To gain an frequency of the individuals in each stage, we regarded the stage in which a teacher had his/her highest score as his/her relevant stage. Correlation analysis was adopted to identify the correlation between teachers' stage of concern and level of use. To analyze the difference of the concern of China middle school teachers on performance assessment according to their individual background variables such as gender, education level, and teaching career, MANOVA was performed.
