Discriminative Training of Stochastic Segment Model Based on HMM Segmentation for Continuous Speech Recognition

  • In this paper, we propose a discriminative training algorithm for the stochastic segment model (SSM) in continuous speech recognition. As the SSM is usually trained by maximum likelihood estimation (MLE), a discriminative training algorithm is required to improve the recognition performance. Since the SSM does not assume the conditional independence of observation sequence as is done in hidden Markov models (HMMs), the search space for decoding an unknown input utterance is increased considerably. To reduce the computational complexity and starch space amount in an iterative training algorithm for discriminative SSMs, a hybrid architecture of SSMs and HMMs is programming using HMMs. Given the segment boundaries, the parameters of the SSM are discriminatively trained by the minimum error classification criterion based on a generalized probabilistic descent (GPD) method. With the discriminative training of the SSM, the word error rate is reduced by 17% compared with the MLE-trained SSM in speaker-independent continuous speech recognition.

  • This paper designs the high-efficiency and the low-cost drive system of the smallsize electric vehicles (EVs). The power circuit for driving the dc motor is designed by considering both the cost and efficiency. In order to reduce the conduction loss of MOTFET and diode for controlling an armature voltage, some MOSFETs and diodes at the armature are in parallel connection. An operating sequence for both the field current and the armature voltage according to the accelerator pedal angle is suggested for changing smoothly the rotating direction of dc motor. Through the simulation studies, the performances of the proposed methods are verified.

  • This paper describes a novel burst-mode clock and data recovery (CDR) circuit which can be used for 622Mbps burst mode applications. The CDR circuit is basically a phase locked loop (PLL) having two phase detectors (PDs), one for the reference clock and the other for the NRZ data, whose operations are controlled by an external control signal. This CDR was fabricated in a 1-poly 5-metal $0.25{\;}\mu\textrm{m}$ CMOS technology. Jitter generation, burst/continuous mode data receptions were tested. Operational frequency range is 320Mhz~720Mhz and BER is less than 1e-12 for PRBS31 at 622Mhz. For the same data sequence, the extracted clock jitter is less than 8ps rms. Power consumption of 100mW was measured without I/O circuits.

  • This paper proposes a new fault-tolerant technique for bitonic sorting networks which can be used for designing ATM switches based on Batcher-Banyan network. The main goal in this paper is to design a cost-effective fault-tolerant bitonic sorting network. In order to recover a fault, additional comparison elements and additional links are used. A Dynamic Redundant Bitonic Sorting (DRBS) network is based on the Dynamic Redundant network and can be constructed with several different variations. The proposed fault-tolerant sorting network offers high fault-tolerance; low time delays; maintenance of cell sequence; simple routing; and regularity and modularity.

  • Programmable Metallization Cell (PMC) memory, which utilizes electrochemical control of nanoscale quantities of metal in thin films of solid electrolyte, shows great promise as a future solid state memory. The technology utilizes the electrochemical formation and removal of metallic pathways in thin films of solid electrolyte. Key attributes are low voltage and current operation, excellent scalability, and a simple fabrication sequence. In this study, we investigated the nature of thin films formed by photo doping of Ag+ ions into chalcogenide materials for use in solid electrolyte of programmable metallization cell devices. We measured the I-V characteristics by field-effect of the device. The results imply that a Ag-rich phase separates owing to the reaction of Ag with free atoms from chalcogenide materials.

  • The most important function in distribution automation system (DAS) is the service restoration. KEPCO's current service restoration provides a very effective restoration service. However, it has been developed without the consideration of unexpected abnormal conditions that may occur while processing the sequence of switching operations. The objective of this paper is to provide practical service restoration schemes under consideration of abnormal conditions. The proposed service restoration schemes have been integrated to a branch office (B/O) in KEPCO. The proposed method strongly supports the conventional service restoration and adds to its value.

  • This paper proposes a 3 kW single-phase bi-directional multi-level converter for energy storage applications. The proposed topology is based on the H-bridge structure with four switches connected to the DC-link. A simple phase opposition disposition PWM method that requires only one carrier signal is also suggested. The switching sequence to balance the capacitor voltage is considered. The topology can be extended to a nine-level converter or a three-phase system. The operating principle of the proposed converter is verified through a simulation and an experiment.

  • 3상 전류형 인버터는 3상의 전류원을 정류하여 직류로 내보내는 대표적인 전력변환시스템이다. 3상 전류형 컨버터의 효율을 극대화 시키는 연구가 활발히 진행되고 있는 현재 시점에 스위칭시퀀스를 간략화 하여 스위칭횟수를 감소함으로써 스위칭 손실 저감시킴은 전체 시스템 효율에 긍정적인 영향을 미친다. 본 논문에서는 3상 전류형 컨버터의 기존 스위칭시퀀스를 간략화 함을 통해 스위칭 절환을 최소로 하는 3상 전류형 컨버터의 제어기법에 대해 제안을 하며, 그 유효성을 PSIM 시뮬레이터와 실험을 통해서 검증한다.

  • In this study, we fabricated a parallelly connected Li-ion battery/supercapacitor hybrid cell to combine the advantageous characteristics of Li-ion battery and supercapacitor, high energy density and high power density, respectively, and investigated its discharging characteristics over a wide temperature range from -40 to $25^{\circ}C$. At the initial state of discharging of the hybrid cell, the power was mostly provided by the supercapacitor and then the portion of the Li-ion battery was gradually increased. By installing a switching system into the hybrid cell, which controls the discharging sequence of Li-ion battery and supercapacitor, the maximum power was improved by 40% compared with non switching system. In addition at low temperatures, the power and discharging time of the hybrid cell were significantly enhanced compared to a battery-alone system. The hybrid cell is expected to be applied in electric vehicles and small domestic appliances that require high power at initial discharging state.

Design and Performance Analysis of sliding correlator digital DS-SS Transceiver (슬라이딩 상관기를 적용한 디지털 직접대역확산 송수신기의 설계 및 성능분석)

  • In this paper, we design the sliding correlator SS transceiver which supports short message service. We also analyze the PN code acquisition circuit that is essential for spread spectrum receiver. Using Maxplus II tool provided by altera Co., Ltd, we have designed PN code generator, and sliding correlator for PN code acquisition. Then, they have been made into FPGA by way of EPM7064SLC44-10 - a chip of Altera Co., Ltd. Additionally, we have designed delay clock circuit which is faster than the clock of Tx PN clock, designed switching circuit to control the clock rate and data demodulation circuit. The performance of the transceiver is evaluated from the experimental results. Especially, the performance of PN code acquisition accomplished by sliding correlator which is very important to evaluate spread spectrum receiver is evaluated with the comparison of the lock states.
