  • This study examined how child care teachers' background characteristics, self-efficacy and job stress relate to their job satisfaction. Participants were 400 child care teachers in Seoul and Gyeonggi, Korea. Structural equation models were developed based on the authors' hypothesized model, which proposed that teachers' self-efficacy and job stress have a mediating effect in the relationship between teachers' background characteristics and job satisfaction. The results revealed that career directly influenced on self-efficacy and job stress but had no direct effect on job satisfaction. Education level was found to have a direct effect on job stress but had no direct effect on self-efficacy and job satisfaction. Teachers' self-efficacy affected job stress and job satisfaction and job stress affected job satisfaction. Furthermore, self-efficacy mediated the effects of career on job stress and job satisfaction. Additionally, job stress mediated the effects of education level and self-efficacy on job satisfaction. These results suggested that teachers' self-efficacy and job stress were key predictors and mediating variables in the relationship between background characteristics and job satisfaction.

  • This study was attempted to evaluate how the self efficacy promotion and exercise training program effect on the postoperative general conditions of transplant recipients after kidney transplantations. The subjects were selected randomly among the patients who underwent renal trans- plantations at three major transplantation hospitals in Seoul, Korea. This study was carried out between November 1999 and March 2000. The observed subjects in this study consisted of 56 patients. The exercise training group(n=16) received the self efficacy promotion and exercise training program for 12 weeks which contained general knowledge for compliance instruction, exercise training and self efficacy promotion education. The self efficacy group(n=18) received general knowledge for compliance instruction and self efficacy promotion education but no exercise training was given. The control group(n=22) were not offered any education. The knowledge for compliance, self efficacy, physical conditions(weight, muscle strength, muscle endurance, flexibility), lab studies (hemoglobin, creatinine, cholesterol), activities of daily living and quality of life were evaluated 3 times, before the experiment, at 8 weeks and at 12 weeks. The data were analyzed with mean, standard deviation, Chi-square test, ANOVA and Scheff test. The results were as follows: 1. The knowledge and self efficacy score of the exercise training group and self efficacy group were significantly increased than those of the control group(p=.0001). 2. The weight of the exercise training group was significantly decreased compared to those of the self efficacy group and the control group(p=.0001). Muscle strength (grip strength, back lift strength), and flexibility of all 3 groups were significantly changed(p=.0001). However, muscle endurance in all 3 groups showed no significant differences. 3. The hemoglobin level of the exercise training group and the self efficacy group were significantly increased compared to that of the control group(p=.0001) and the cholesterol levels of the exercise training group and the self efficacy group were significantly decreased compared to that of the control group(p=,0001). However, the creatinine levels in all 3 groups showed no significant differences. 4. The activities of daily living scores of the exercise training group was significantly increased than that of the control group (p=.0003), and the quality of life scores of the exercise training group and the self efficacy group were significantly better than that of the control group(p=.0001). It would be expected that this self efficacy promotion and exercise training program could be applied widely as an effective nursing intervention for kidney transplant recipients.

  • This study investigated the relations between mother's parenting self-efficacy, perceived social support, parenting behavior, and stress, and child's temperament, and child' self-esteem, including a mediational role of Korean mother's parenting self-efficacy. The participants were 404 Korean child-mother dyads living in Seoul, Korea. Structural equation modeling indicated that mother's parenting self-efficacy was a significant mediator of the relation between mother's perceived social support and child's temperament and mother's parenting behaviors including Warmth-Acceptance, Rejection-Restriction, and Permissiveness-Nonintervention. In the Warmth-Acceptance model, mother's parenting self-efficacy was related to child self-esteem through Warmth-Acceptance. In the Rejection-Restriction model, mother's parenting self-efficacy was related to child self-esteem both directly and through Rejection-Restriction. Child's temperament was also related to Rejection-Restriction directly. In the Permissiveness-Nonintervention model, mother's parenting self-efficacy was related to child self-esteem directly, not through Permissiveness-Nonintervention. Child's temperament, also, was related to Permissiveness-Nonintervention directly.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the factors influencing health promoting behavior and quality of life in the nursing students, to provide the basic data for health promoting intervention in order to improve quality of life. The subjects of this study were 199 nursing students, living in M city, during the period from May 18 to 25, 1999. The instruments for this study were the health promoting behavior scale developed by Walker et al.(1987), the quality of life scale by Ro(1988), the self efficacy scale by Sherer(1982), the health locus of control scale by Wallston et al. (1978) and the self esteem scale by Rogenberg(1965). The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation coefficients, stepwise multiple regression, t-test, ANOVA. The results of this study are as follows; 1. The health promoting behavior showed significant positive correlation with self efficacy, self esteem, internal health locus of control and quality of life. 2. The quality of life showed significant positive correlation with self efficacy, self esteem, internal health locus of control. 3. Stepwise multiple regression analysis revealed that the most powerful predictor of health promoting behavior was self efficacy. A combination of self efficacy, self esteem, health locus of control and quality of life accounted for $41\%$ of the variance in health promoting behavior. 4. Stepwise multiple regression analysis revealed that the most powerful predictor of quality of life was self esteem. A combination of self esteem, self efficacy and health promoting behavior accounted for $40\%$ of the variance in quality of life. Based on the above findings, it is suggested to develop nursing intervention to improve Self Efficacy, Self Esteem of nursing students enhance health promoting lifestyle.
