The spectral-analysis-of-surface-waves (SASW) method is a nondestructive testing method based upon generation and detection of elastic stress waves. SASW is widely used as one of the techniques to determine stiffness profile in engineering geophysics. The essential steps involved are construction of an experimental dispersion curve from data collected in situ, and inversion of the dispersion curve to determine the stiffness profile. The main object of this study is to derive an analytical Jacobian for the inversion. If we set the subsurface to N homogeneous layer, it could save 2N times Jacobian calculation compared to numerical jacobian calculation during inversion. To reconstruct a stiffness profile, constrained damped least square method was applied for the inversion. The algorithm was tested for the numerical data and for the real asphalt and tunnel data, which were able to verify the stiffness profile. The stiffness profile reconstructed by the algorithm showed the possibility to appraise the soundness of tunnel with applications SASW.

The vibration and nosic of gears is causeed by manufacting error, alignment error in assembly, and thr meshing stiffness of gears which changes periodically as the meshing of teeth process. On a pair of power transmission helical gears with profile error, the relation between the characteristics of gear vibration and the profile error type have been investigated by simulating the vibrational acceleration level and calculating the natural frequency. The results show that the profile error decrease the natural frequency by reducing the tool stiffness and that the concave error type increase the vibrationsl level. And this paper describes the effect of the tip relief on the vibrational acceleration level which a pair of helical gears with concave error generates.

A four-degree-of-freedom non-linear model with time varying mesh stiffness has been developed for the dynamic analysis of spur gear trains. The model includes a spur gear pair, two shafts, two inertias representing load and prime mover. In the model, developed several factors such as time varying mesh stiffness and damping, separation of teeth, teeth collision, various gear errors and profile modifications have been considered. Two computer programs are developed to calculate stiffness of a gear pair and transmission error and the dynamic analysis of modeled system using time integration method. Dynamic tooth and mesh forces, dynamic factors are calculated. Numerical examples have been given, which shows the time varying mesh stiffness ha a significant effect upon the dynamic tooth force and torsional vibrations.

This paper presents an optimum design of herringbone grooved journal bearing for spindle motor of hard disk drive (HDD) system. In addition to the conventional “rectangular” groove, various groove profiles are designed. The stiffness and damping coefficients of the oil film and frictional torque are calculated and compared for tile various groove profiles. The “circular”, “valley”, and “reversed saw tooth” grooves do not produce high direct stiffness, since they partly increase the groove depths in the direction of lubricant flow, causing to reduce the pumping action of the bearing. The maximum direct stiffness can be obtained by the “rectangular”, “saw tooth”, and “step” grooves. With the same cross sectional area of the grooves, these three grooves have the same maximum stiffness, damping coefficients, and frictional torque. Among these recommendable grooves, the saw tooth groove may keep its original profile for long, enduring metal-to-metal contact during startup and shutdown.

An analytical procedure to determine a proper profile of the spring rail that generates intended contact pressure distribution in the flat wiper blade is introduced. The flat wiper blade is one piece blade and subjected to pressing force at a center point. In this type of blade, contact pressure distribution in the tip of rubber strip is determined by the pressing force, the initial profile of the blade before contact and bending stiffness of the blade. Experimentally obtained bending stiffness of the blade assembly is almost identical to that of the spring rail. Principle of reciprocity has been used to define the initial profile of spring rail from the deformed profile that is assumed to be identical to the windshield glass profile. The procedure has been verified experimentally by measuring the contact pressure of the blade assembled with the spring rail designed by the procedure proposed here. Measured contact pressure distributions of the blades show good agreements with intended distributions over the entire blade span. Consequently, it can be concluded that proposed procedure has relatively good accuracy in developing the spring rail for flat blade having a specific contact pressure distribution.

High precision speed reducer which has a cycloid or involute teeth profile, used to in Robot. In this study, suggest to a new teeth profile, which has basically a triangle teeth profile. We had a stress analysis compare to convenient speed reducer for teeth profile. We has a good results in new teeth profile for strength, stress and stiffness.

Within wafer non-uniformity(WIWNU) improves as the stiffness of pad decrease. We designed the pad groove to study of pad stiffness on WIWNU in Chemical mechanical polishing(CMP) and measured the pad stiffness according to groove width. The groove influences effective pad stiffness although original mechanical properties of pad are unchanged by grooving. Also, it affects the flow of slurry that has an effect on the lubrication regime and polishing results. An Increase of the apparent contact area of pad by groove width results in decrease of effective pad stiffness. WIWNU and profile of removal tate improved as effective pad stiffness decreased. Because grooving the pad reduce its effective stiffness and it makes slurry distribution to be uniform. Futhermore, it ensures that pad conforms to wafer-scale flatness variability. By grooving the top pad, it is possible to reduce its stiffness and hence reduce WIWNU and edge effect.
This paper presents an optimal pattern for distributing stiffness along a framed tube structure through an analytic equation, which may be used during the preliminary design stage. Most studies in this field are computationally intensive and time consuming, while a hand-calculation method, as presented here, is a more suitable tool for sensitivity analyses and parametric studies. Approach in development of the analytic model is to minimize the mean compliance (external work) for a given volume of material. A variational statement of the problem is made, and a specified deformation-profile is obtained as the necessary condition for a minimum; enforcing this condition, stiffness is then computed. Due to some near-zero values for stiffness, the problem is modified by considering a lower bound constraint. To deal with this constraint, the design domain is assumed to be divided into two zones of constant stiffness and constant curvature; and the problem is restated in terms of these concepts. It will be shown that this methodology allows for easy computation of stiffness through an analytic and dimensionless equation, valid in any system of units. To show practicality of the proposed method, a tubed-system structure with uniform stiffness distribution is redesigned using the proposed model. Comparative analyses of the results reveal that in addition to simplicity of the proposed method, it provides a rather high degree of accuracy for real-world problems.
The metal front case of a mobile phone is manufactured by press forming and welding of thin metal sheets. Twisting of the frame after the forming process is one of main obstacle for the assembly with reinforcement by welding. This study introduces a method preventing twisting of the metal front case frame in press forming. The spring-back after forming produces twisting of the frame, which leads to a low structural stiffness. To reduce twisting, connectors are required to reinforce the structural stiffness of the frame. In this study, the twisting profile is evaluated using a finite element(FE) analysis for various connector shapes. The actual connector shape is determined by minimization of the frame twisting within the tolerance of the FE-analysis. To verify the validity of the proposed blank shape, a forming experiment is performed and the twisting profile is measured using a 3D laser scanning method. The dimensional accuracy is found to be within the tolerance and in good agreement with the FE-analysis.
Analytical studies were conducted to develop the Spectral-Analysis-of-Surface-Waves (SASW) method for underwater use. For the precise estimation of the in-situ soil stiffness profile from SASW measurements, it is essential to determine economical and reasonable theoretical dispersion curves reflecting various experimental conditions. In this paper, therefore, analytical methods are mainly discussed, which were developed to determine theoretical dispersion curves of surface waves propagated along the soil-water interface. Application of the analytical methods is then illustrated by an example involving estimation of a stiffness profile through a forward modeling process of SASW measurements. Applicabilities of the SASW method as well as the developed analytical methods are evaluated, respectively, from the example.
