The load transfer mechanism and load-bearing capacity of cast steel joints for H-shaped beam to square tube column connection are studied based on the deformation compatibility theory. Then the monotonic tensile experiments are conducted for 12 specimens about the cast steel joints for H-shaped beam to square tube column connection. The findings are that the tensile bearing capacity of the cast steel joints for beam-column connection depends on the ring of cast steel stiffener. The tensile fracture happens at the ring of the cast steel stiffener when the joint fails. The thickness of square tube column has little influence on the bearing capacity of the joint. The square tube column buckles while the joint without concrete filled, but the strength failure happens for the joint with concrete filled column. And the length of welding connection between square tube column and cast steel stiffener has little influence on the load-bearing capacity of the cast steel joint. Finally it is shown that the load-bearing capacity of the joints for H-shaped beam to concrete filled square tube column connection is larger than that of the joints for H-shaped beam to square tube column connection by 10% to 15%.
Column-to-beam pinned connections can cause local moment to the web of a steel tube due to the distance of eccentricity between the row of bolts and the column flange, which possibility deteriorates the load capacity of column. In this study, a square hollow section tubular used finite element analysis of a square hollow section tubular column was carried out, and the column width and thickness, existence and non-existence of internal reinforcement, and existence and non-existence of compressive force were taken as variables to examine the load capacity deterioration of a square column caused by moment. To guarantee the reliability of the finite element results, some specimens were fabricated and tested. The yield line method was applied to suggest the strength formulas of the square tubular column to the beam pinned connections. Based on the study results, the column strength the moment of the square hollow section tubular column to the beam pined connections improved with the increase in the w to strength limitations, a no-reinforcement type of square hollow section tubular column was proposed, and if the limitation values were not satisfied, the reinforcement of the internal column was made mandatory. Therefore, the horizontal -reinforcement type considered the strength increase, and the fabrication of the square hollow section tubular column was ar column that considered its load capacity with the moment for the no-reinforcement and the horizontal-reinforcement types.

The reinforced concrete column confined by square steel tubes(RCST) is a reinforced column (RC) confined by thin steel tubes which cover over the full length of the column but terminates 15mm from the column's ends. The steel tube is in uniaxial tension stress state and won't buckle when the column sustains axial load. This will highly increase the bearing capacity and ductility of the columns. The hysteretic behavior of four square RCST columns and one square RC column were experimentally studied under constant axial load and lateral cyclic load. The wide-to-thickness (D/t) ratio of RCST columns employed in this research is 75. The main variables of the experiment were axial load ratio and compressive strength of the concrete. Based on the findings in this research, RCST columns exhibits high lateral strength, ductility, and energy dissipation ability.

There are three main production processes in the manufacture of concrete-filled square steel columns. The first process is known as the 'box-type process' or 'four-seam method,' wherein four beams are welded together at the seams. The second is the 'cold-forming process' or 'two-seam method,' wherein the seams of two channel beams are welded together. The third is the 'pressing process' or 'one-seam method,' wherein a circular column is pressed until it becomes a square column. In calculating the production cost for the making of a steel tube, it is very important to consider the welding process to be used and the desiredthickness of the steel tube, such as a square column that was developed under a new method, formed through the four-seam flare welding method at the center of the steel column width, following the L-shape formation. Certain tests were suggested in this study to evaluate the welding amount of concrete-filled square steel columns. With the parameters of the production method of a square steel column, the thickness of the steel square columns, and the welding amount, six specimens were produced. A structural test and finite-element analysis were conducted to assess the behavior of the steel column according to the water pressure inside the steel columns.
Semi-rigid connections with blind bolts could solve the difficulty that traditional high strength bolts were unavailable to splice a steel/composite beam to a closed section column. However, insufficient investigations have focused on the performance of semi-rigid connection to square concrete filled double-skin steel tubular (CFDST) columns. In this paper, a component model was developed to evaluate the mechanical behavior of semi-rigid composite connections to CFDST columns considering the stiffness and strength of column face in compression and column web in shear which were determined by the load transfer mechanism and superstition method. Then, experimental investigations on blind bolted composite joints to square CFDST columns were conducted to validate the accuracy of the component model. Dominant failure modes of the connections were analyzed and this type of joint behaved semi-rigid manner. More importantly, strain responses of CFDST column web and tubes verified that stiffness and strength of column face in compression and column web in shear significantly affected the connection mechanical behavior owing to the hollow part of the cross-section for CFDST column. The experimental and analytical results showed that the CFDST column to steel-concrete composite beam semi-rigid joints could be employed for the assembled structures in high intensity seismic regions.

Welded built-up square tubes are manufactured by flare welding at the center of the column width for cold-formed L-shaped four-piece plates and improved composite effect of concrete and steel by vertical inner anchor. Also, the axial resistance of concrete is increased by the thinness of the steel column, and the composite effect of concrete and steel prevents the steel column from local buckling. In this study, we introduced a manufacturing method of built-up square column steel square concrete-filled tubular column with vertical inner anchor and superior structural performance of the square stub column verified by the structural test for 15 specimens with parameters of shape of tube (built-up square tube, general steel tube), width over thickness of the steel tube (B/t=50, 58, 67) and the strength of concrete (f'c=10MPa, 50MPa).
Generally, a box tube, which is used for an existing square CFT structure, is made by welding four plates. The manufacturing efficiency of this steel tube is poor, and it also needs special welding technology to weld its internal diaphragm and the through diaphragm. Therefore, an interior-anchor-type square steel tube was developed using the method of cold-forming thin plates to prevent welding of the stress concentration position, and to maximize the section efficiency. And, considering of the flow of beam flange load, the efficiency of erection and the weldability of the diaphragm to thin walled steel column, the external diaphragm connection was selected as the suitable type for the welded built-up square CFT column to beam connection. And, an analytical study and tests were conducted to evaluate the structural performance of the suggested connection details and to verify the suggested equations for the connection details. Through this study, the composite effect of the internal anchor to concrete, the resistance and stress distribution of the connections before and after the existing column is welded to the beam, the effective location of welding in connection were analyzed.
This study aimed to inspect the axial compression mechanical performance of basalt-fiber-reinforced recycled - concrete (BFRRC)-filled square steel tubular stub column. The replacement ratio of recycled coarse aggregate (RCA) and the basalt fiber (BF) dosage were used as variation parameters, and the axial compression performance tests of 15 BFRRC-filled square steel tubular stub column specimens were conducted. The failure mode and the load-displacement/strain curve of the specimen were measured. The working process of the BFRRC-filled square steel tubular stub column was divided into three stages, namely, elastic-elastoplasticity, sudden drawdown, and plasticity. The influence of the design parameters on the peak bearing capacity, energy dissipation performance, and other axial compression performance indexes was discussed. A mathematical model of segmental stiffness degradation was proposed on the basis of the degradation law of combined secant-stiffness under axial compression. The full-process curve equation of axial compressive stress-strain was proposed by introducing the influencing factors, including the RCA replacement ratio and the BF dosage, and the calculated curve agreed well with the test-measured curve.

CFST columns are structurally superior because the concrete inside the steel tubes prevents local buckling at the tubes and the tubes confine the concrete. And, the thickness of steel tube in CFST column has been thinner with development of high-strengh steel. The thinner the steel tube of a square CFST column is, the more local buckling is likely to occur. For this reason, we developed welded built-up square steel tube with stiffeners which are placed at the center of the tube width acts as an anchor. In this study, we conduct experimental test for three specimens of the 4m long span welded built-up square CFT column with parameters of L/D and D/t. And, the test results were compared with the analysis results by M-${\phi}$-P Program.

This study deals with the strengthening effect and behavioral characteristics of square concrete column wrapped with carbon FRP sheet. The increase in axial compression capacity comes from the confinement effect of wrapped CFRP sheet. Because of the shape of square concrete column, the confinement effect is smaller than that in circular column. For the experimental program, four parameters including the number of sheet, the size of column specimen, the aspect ratio, the corner rounding, and the transformation in shape from square to circular were selected to examine the strengthening effect and behavioral characteristics for each parameter. Experimental program comprised fifty five square concrete column specimens for different eleven types. The compression test results confirmed that the strengthening effect can be increased by the confinement of wrapped and bonded CFRP sheet. However, the confining effect was decreased with the increase of square column size. The other hand, the ductility in square concrete column greatly increased due to caging effect of CFRP sheet. The transformation in shape from square to circular considerably increased both the compressive strength and the ductility of the concrete column wrapped with CFRP sheet. In addition, using test results and existing studies, accuracy and reliability of the existing strength models for CFRP-confined square concrete are verified.
