An abattoir survey of pneumonia and other lesions in slaughtered pigs from 5 selected herds located In the Western Kyongbuk was carried out during the period from March to December 1995. Pneumonic lungs was attempted bacteriological finding and antibiotic susceptibilities. From 583 slaughtered pigs, 445(76.3%) case was pneumonic lungs, seasonal patterns were Winter, Spring, Autumn, Summer in the order named. Among them, 127(21.8%) case was mycopla-sma pneumonia and 65(11.2%) case was pleuropneumonia. In snout lesion grade from 337 slaughtered pigs, above grade II score was 107(31.8%). In the white spot of liver, grade I was 544(93.3%), grade II32(5.5%) and grade III 7(1.2%). In the gastric ulcer, normal was 350(60.0%), grade I168(28.8%), grade II59(10.1%) and grade III 6(1.1%). Among the pigs(n=271) with pneumonic lesions above 20%, 162 strains werr isolated from 87(32.1%) pigs. The bacteria isolated from pneumonic lesions was Pasteurella sp 61(37.7%), Streptococcus sp 31(19.1%), Actinobacillus sp 3(1.9%), Coliform bacteria 19(11.7%) and the other bacteria 48(29.6%) These isolates were highly susceptible to the antibiotics including ENR 142(87.7%), Cft 138(85.2%) and Cf 126(77.8%).
A survey on pneumonic lungs and its histopathological changes of the slaughtered pigs from the southern area of Chungbuk province was carried out during the period from January to December 1999. Pneumonic lungs were attempted bactenological findings and antibiotic susceptibilities. The results obtained were as follows; 1. Of 158 slaughtered pigs, 97(61.4%) pigs had pneumonic lesions in the lung, and the prevalence was high in winter, spring, autumn, and summer in order. f. The bacteria isolated from pneumonic lesions were pasteurella spp, 13 heads(34.2%), streptococcus spp, 6(IS.8%), actinobacillus spp, 3(7.9%), coliform 4(10.5%) and the other bacteria, 12(31.6%). 3. These isolates were highly susceptible to the antibiotics of enrofloxacin 30(78.9%), cephalothin 23(73.6%) and ceftiofur 27(71 %). 4. Histopathologically, swine enzootic pneumonia and pleuropneumonia lesions were observed. The swine enzootic pneumonia lesions were consisted of peribronchiolar lymphoid hyperplasia and exudate in alveolar lumen. The effects of slaughter weight on blood profile and pork qualities of japan berkshires were investigated A total 72 pigs were divided into 3 groups$(125\~130,\;105\~110\;or\;95\~104\;kg)$. At each slaughter weight pigs were conventionally slaughtered and then chilled overnight The carcass characteristics (carcass weight backfat thickness and grades) were determined on those carcass, the muscle longissimus dorsi was removed from each left side at 5th to 13th rib and meat qualities were evaluated. Blood profile including cortisol, creatine phos-phokinase (CPK), lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), glucose and phosphorus was not significantly (p>0.05) different among all slaughter weight, However, the calcium contents of pigs at $95\~104\;kg$ were significantly (p<0.05) higher than the other weights. The carcass weight and backfat thickness of pigs slaughtered at $125\~130\;kg$ were higher than those of $105\~110\;or\;95\~104\;kg$. The carcass grade of pigs slaughtered at $125\~130\;kg$ were significantly (p<0.05) lower than the other weight. The moisture contents of pigs slaughtered at $125\~130\;kg$ were significantly lower than the other weights, but crude protein contents were significantly (p<0.05) higher, Cooking loss and shear lone values of pigs slaughtered at $95\~104\;kg$ were significantly (p<0.05) lower than the other weight. CIE $a^*\;and\;b^*$ values of pigs slaughtered at $105\~110\;kg$ were significantly higher than the other weights. These results imply that the carcass characteristics (carcass weight and backfat thickness) could be affected by slaughter weight the cooking loss and shear force values of pigs slaughtered at $125\~130\;kg$ resulted in higher than those of $105\~110kg\;or\;95\~104\;kg$.
The present study was conducted to investigate the isolation frequency, biochemical prop erties and antimicrobial susceptibility of B. bronchiseptica isolated from slaughtered pigs during the period from March to December, 1992. In Kyeonggi province. A serological survey for antibody of B. bronchiseptica in 200 slaughtered pigs was carried out by agglutination and tetrazolium reduction methods. The results were summarized as follows ; 1. From 80 slaughtered pigs, 27(33.8%) case were isolated and all isolate strains were resistant to Penicillin, Streptomycin, Chloramphenicol, Tetracycline and Ampicllin, while the majority of them were susceptible to Gentamicin, Cloxacin, Colistin, Neomycin, and Kanamycin. 2. Incidence of B. bronchiseptica antibody in 200 slaughtered pigs were measured by agglutination and tetrazolium reduction methods. Agglutination method was shown 38 (19%) of 200 with a titer of below 1:20 and 20(10%) of 200 with a titer of above 1:640. Tetrazolium reduction method was observed 33(16.5%) of 200 with a titer of below 1 : 20 and 32(15%) of 200 with a titer of above 1:640. 3. LSD analysis indicated that the difference of the responses between agglutination test and tetrazolium reduction test was not significant.
A survey on procine eperythrozoonosis was conducted by the blood smear examinations and the animal inoculation tests with heparinized blood samples collected from slaughtered pig. The results obtained were as follows : 1. In the microscopic examination of the blood smears, 2(0.43%) of 455 slaughtered pigs in Seoul were infected with eperythrozoa, while none of 45 blood samples in Jeonbuk province was infected. The average infection rate of these areas was 0.4%. 2. In the animal inoculation tests, the eperythrozoa were detected in the splenectomized pigs 6 days after subcutaneous inoculation of the blood samples obtained from 100 pigs in Seoul, and the positive rate of slaughtered pigs was at least more than 1%.
Respiratory diseases are common in swine industry and have great economic importance. Respiratory disorders cause substantial losses to the swine industry. Losses associated with respiratory disease vary considerably between herds and seasons. In a survey was carry out to investigate the lesion of red internal organs in slaughtered pigs and provided assistant data which are useful for each farm. From november 2012 to december 2013, 1,680 pigs out of 84 farms were sampled in Jeonbuk province. Gross lesions such as swine enzootic pneumonia (SEP), pleuritis, pleuropneumonia, pericarditis, liver milk spot were examined for the pigs. Overall prevalence of SEP was 55.7%. According to season, the incidence occurred higher in fall than winter, spring, and summer. The mean SEP score was 0.91, the highest incidence occurred in fall. The prevalence of pleuropneumonia, pleuritis, pericarditis, and milk spot was 36.4%, 49.7%, 2.3%, and 8.8%, respectively. The positive rate of PRRS and PCV2 was 2.9% and 70.0% by PCR analysis.
This paper deals with the distribution of Yersinia spp. isolated from the feces or the cecal contents of 1,755 pigs, 558 cows, 428 pigs slaughtered, 271 dogs slaughtered and 91 deer during the period of March 1985 to February 1986. Isolated Yersinia spp. were examined for serotype, biotype and antibiotic susceptibility of Y. enterocolitica. The results were as follows; One hundred and fourty-three stains of Yersinia spp. were isolated from 141(4.5%) out of 3,103 animals examined and their isolates were identified as Y. enterocolitica(138 strains), Y. kristensenii (3 strains), Y. intermedia(1 strain) and Y. pseudotuberculosis(1 strain). Yersinia spp. were isolated from 122(7.0%) of 1,755 pigs in piggeries, 15(3.5%) of 428 pigs slaughtered and 4(1.5%) of 271 dogs slaughtered, but no Yersinia spp. were isolated from cows and deer. The isolation rate of Yersinia spp. in pigs ranged from 5.9~8.0% in piggeries, it was higher in summer and autumn and highest in fattening pigs groups(10.4%), especially. One hundred and thirty-eight Y. enterocolitica isolates belonged to serotype 0 : 3(95 strains), 0 : 8(13 strains), 0 : 5(7 strains), 0 : 9(6 strains), 0 : 1, 2(1 strain) and untypable(16 strains), among them strains of serotype 0 : 3 biotype 3B(91 strains) were predominant. Antibiotic susceptibility test of 138 isolates of Yersinia spp. was performed by the agar dilution method, using 8 antibiotics as follows: ampicillin(Am), chloramphenicol, kanamycin, nalidixic acid(Na), rifampicin(Rf), streptomycin, sulfadimethoxine(Su) and tetracycline. All the strains tested were susceptible to Rf and Na, but resistant to Su, and 136 strains(98.6%) were also resistant to Am.
Respiratory disease in pigs is common in modern pork production worldwide and is often referred to as porcine respiratory disease complex (PRDC). PRDC is polymicrobial in nature, and results from infection with various combinations of primary and secondary respiratory pathogens. The control of swine respiratory disease requires an understanding of the interactions between the organisms that can cause this illness, the pig and management of the environment. This study was carried out to investigate the lesion of red internal organs in slaughtered pigs and provided assistant data for pig farms. A total of 900 lung samples, 45 farms were collected randomly from slaughtered pigs in Jeonbuk province from April to December in 2014. Gross lesions such as swine enzootic pneumonia (SEP), pleuritis, pleuropneumonia, pericarditis, liver white spots were examined for the pigs. Overall prevalence of SEP was 70.8%. According to season, the incidence occurred higher in summer than winter, fall and spring. The mean SEP score was 1.4, the highest incidence occurred in fall. The prevalence of pleuropneumonia, pleuritis, pericarditis, and milk spot was 26.1%, 71.4%, 2.8%, 21.6%, respectively. In the detection of pathogens, PRRS was not detected, PCV2 was positive in 87.6%.

Enzootic pneumonia caused by Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae is responsible for major economic losses in pig herds of world wide. Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae can also act as a primary pathogen of porcine respiratory disease complex followed by bacterial or viral infection. This study was carried out to investigate the prevalence of mycoplasmal pneumonia of slaughtered pigs in Jeju for two years. The lungs and sera of 214 cases were examined for gross and microscopic lesions of the lungs, immunohistichemistry test for Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae antigen and enzyme-linked immunohistichemistry assay (ELISA) for serum antibody titer. Pulmonary consolidation was observed in the lungs of 163 pigs $(76.1\%)$ with average gross lesion score of $6.0\%$., Bronchointerstitial pneumonia was most frequently observed $(78.5\%)$. The incidence of pulmonary consolidation was decreased in vaccinated pigs compared to that of non-vaccinated pigs. The rate of consolidation in the lungs was significantly decreased in the vaccinated pigs (P<0.05). Antigen of Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae was identified by immunohistichemistry test in the lungs of 174 pigs $(81.3\%)$. ELISh antibodies to Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae were detected in 154 pigs $(72.0\%)$. These results showed the prevalence of swine pneumonia and the incidence of Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae in slaughtered pigs of Jeiu province. We expect that these results would be helpful for the control of swine mycoplasmal pneumonia and porcine respiratory disease complex in Jeju.
