Purpose: The aim of this study was to determine the predictive strength of students' self-efficacy, problem-solving skills, and other characteristics in performing intravenous practices and monitor phlebitis and infiltration. Methods: This cross-sectional study was carried out with 736 third and fourth-year students studying at the Health Sciences Faculties of Balikesir and Sakarya universities. The data were collected using the Self-Efficacy Scale, Problem-Solving Inventory and Catheter Care and Infiltration Monitoring Questionnaire. Results: The participants' mean Catheter Care and Infiltration Monitoring Questionnaire score significantly and positively correlated with their mean Self-Efficacy Scale score on a moderate level (r=.25; p<.001) but significantly and negatively correlated with their mean Problem-Solving Inventory score on a moderate level (r=-.21; p<.001). In other words, because a low Problem-Solving Inventory score indicates that the person's problem-solving skill is high, the Care and Infiltration Monitoring Questionnaire score increased as the problem-solving skill increased. While the Self-Efficacy Scale predicted the year of study and catheter care and infiltration monitoring variables positively, the Problem-Solving Inventory predicted the satisfaction with the profession variable negatively. Conclusion: Self-efficacy, problem-solving, liking the profession, and year of study predict success in catheter care and infiltration monitoring. For this reason, guidance may be provided in the development of a comprehensive education system toward increasing students' problem-solving skills, self-efficacy, and professional knowledge and skills.
Purpose One of the success factors of information system projects is to reduce requirements uncertainty through user engagement. So, in many recent IS development environment, a business analyst or business analysts are positioned between users and developers to drive user engagement to reduce requirements uncertainty. But, there are few studies that research about the competencies of business analysts for training and staffing. So, this study analyzed which underlying and practical competencies that positively influence user engagement are required. Design/methodology/approach The level of underlying and practical competencies required for business analysts and the level of user enagement in the IS development environment are collected through the survey. And, the causal relationship between the construct concepts which are underlying competencies, practical competencies and the user participation is analzed through the PLS analysis. Findings The results of this study show that the practial competencies of business analysts that positively have a significant impact on user engaement were studied as requirements development skills. Additionally, the underlying competencies of business analysts which have a significant impact on requirements development skills were examined as business knowledge and interaction skills rather than technical knowledge and communication skills.
The purpose of this study was to explore the factors influencing preschoolers' emergent English as a second language literacy skills in terms of maternal language behavior in Korean and English picture book reading. This study was also conducted in order to identify the pathways of each factor. The subjects consisted of 201 mothers and their 3~5 year-old children from middle income families living in Seoul, Incheon, Gyyounggi-do, and Chungcheongbuk-do. The results indicated that the factors influencing preschoolers' emergent English as a second language literacy skills acquisition were as follows : maternal beliefs about the value of picture book reading, the child's level of interest in picture book reading, the time spent on picture book reading and maternal language behavior during picture book reading activities. The results further indicate that it is important that the mother shares desirable language interaction with her children in their native language while reading not only Korean but also English picture books when aiming to improve preschoolers' emergent English literacy skills.
Small Group Collaborative Instruction in school settings has been endorsed by many educational experts over the years. Some studies found that learners greatly benefit from one another through communication and interaction with their peers. These studies previously indicated improvement of a learner‘s academic ability as well as the application of the affective domain when using this type of instruction. Lower-level students with limited mathematical abilities improved their problem-solving and conceptual thinking skills when tasked to work with other learners. On the other hand, the effectiveness of this process was questioned to be less evident with higher-level performers. Therefore, this study was designed to observe the efficacy of Small Group Collaborative Instruction on higher-level students and to explore their learning process as they interact with and teach lower-level students. This study observed that higher-level students use high-level mathematical thinking skills when helping lower-level students, and they improved problem-solving ability as well as communication skills.
The present research is aimed to observe the effects on the peer counseling program which can increase the communication skills and social efficacy of high school students. In order to do the present research, I have taken 16 high school students, who want to join to this research, within A city. I have separated those students into two groups: an experienced group of 8 students and a controlled group of 8 students. Mann-Whitney U and Wilcoxon Signed Ranks test were adopted to analyze collected data from the peer counseling program. The results of this research indicated that the level of communication skills have been increased after peer counseling intervention program of the experienced group, and the level of occupational stress also have been increased after peer counseling intervention program of the experienced group. This result showed that, the peer counseling program could stimulate the communication skills and social efficacy of experienced group significantly comparing with the result of the controlled group. From the result I have confirmed that, the peer counseling program have positive effects to increase the high school students' communication skills and social efficacy.
The objective of this research is to develop education and training systems for IS department and user department personnel, which is essential to effective implementation IT(information technology) strategies in most of organizations. In order to achieve this research objective, first this study theoretically derives six categories of education and training based on comprehensive review of the previous research, and explicates concrete items for each category. And then, with respect to each of these items, we empirically investigate the degree of necessity measured by the gap between the required level of knowledge and skills which staff members should have for effective implementation of IT strategies and the present level of them which they really have. Field survey is employed for the data collection: 270 questionnaires are distributed to the companies in private and public sectors, and 196 questionnaires are collected in useful condition and are analyzed. The findings of this research shows that six dimensions of education and training are empirically derived by factor analysis as following: (1) general knowledge for organizational overview, (2) management knowledge and skills, (3) knowledge and skills of the specific information system which IS department and user department personnel are directly involved in developing and operating, (4) knowledge and skills for strategic use of IT, (5) general knowledge and skills for IT and (6) advanced expert knowledge and skills for specific IT. And the degree of necessity turns out to be statistically significantly different among six dimensions of education and training needed by IS department and user department personnel respectively. Also for each dimension, the degree of necessity is shown to be statistically significantly different between IS department and user department personnel The results of this study can provide the theoretical basis for constructing the IT education and training system for effective implementation of IT strategies, Also they can be used as a practical guideline in developing and promoting specific IT education and training programs in real organizations.
The present educational and social circumstances require the improvement of science education and the promotion of scientific technology simultaneously Under this situation, it is necessary to develop the performance assessment evaluating the ability of scientific inquiry. The purpose of this study is to develop a valid and reliable instrument of the performance assessment that is can evaluate the scientific inquiring ability. The characteristics of the instrument developed through this study, are as follows, 1. The performance assessment can be impartially achieved for all the elements of scientific inquiry, which are required in the units of elementary science from 3rd to 6th grade of elementary school. 2. To maintain the objectivity of performance assessment, the detailed standpoints and standards are established. 3. The instruments are devised to evaluate the thinking skills with the experimental reports of student, the operation skills by the check list of evaluation that the teacher's observation for the student are recorded. 4. Purpose: This provides basic data for improving educational effectiveness by selecting and applying basic vocational competency applicable to dental technology's sub-major curricula by determining and researching dental technicians' awareness levels concerning the basic vocational competency's importance. Methods: 170 dental technicians working in Daegu, Korea were surveyed using a self-administered questionnaire between 9 January 2018 and 23 February 2018. Results: 1. The highest level of the basic vocational competency elements by the awareness levels of importance in dental technology laboratories was shown in the occupational ethics, followed by technological skills, interpersonal skills, self-development levels, problem-solving skills, information skills, resource management skills and skills for understanding groups, communication skills, and mathematical skills. 2. Female dental technicians put relatively higher importance on writing documents and managing time, while males stressing on basic statistics. 3. Dental laboratory CEOs and managers put high values on resource management skills, while head technicians valuing information skills more. 4. The awareness levels concerning the basic vocational competency importance in some dental technology fields did not match those of the dental technology laboratories in the fields of porcelain, crown and bridge, and orthodontics. Conclusion : This study demonstrates that the awareness levels concerning basic vocational competency's importance in some fields of dental technology differ from those of dental technology laboratories. Developing a basic vocational competency curriculum, it seems necessary to find ways to increase educational effectiveness by selecting and applying the basic vocational competency for the respective fields of dental technology.
This study empirically examines the relationship between the education and competence, age and competence, and the returns to skills in the labor market in different countries using PIAAC data. The main focus is notable characteristics of Korea compared to other PIAAC participant countries. Contrary to young students who have highest scores in international tests, Korean adults made mediocre performances in all three areas, numeracy, literacy, and problem solving. It turns out that the correlation between educational level and competence is weak in Korea compared to other countries, whereas the depreciation of competence from aging is strongest. In terms of labor market returns, literacy skills get highest returns while problem-solving skills get lowest in Korea. In contrast, the numeracy skills get highest returns, and the problem-solving skills have high returns than those of Korea in many other countries When we include three skills in the Mincer wage equation, the returns to problem solving skills have negative effect in Korea, which is rarely found in other countries. These results implies that problem-solving skills are not much appreciated in the Korean labor market and Korean adults have few opportunities of accumulating human capital after finishing formal education. Korean need to rethink the ways to accumulate human capital and enhance economic performances to overcome high deprecation in human capital after formal education and to make the labor market more efficient in a sense that adults' competence results in the due economic returns.
