  • The singular value decomposition is a tool which is used to find a linear structure of reduced dimension and to give interpretation of the lower dimensional structure about multivariate data. In this paper the singular value decomposition is reviewed from both algebraic and geometric point of view and, is illustrated the way which the tool is used in the multivariate techniques finding a simpler geometric structure for the data.

  • In this work, we study the existence of a positive solution for nonlinear fractional differential equation with a singular weight. For the proof, we introduce newly defined solution operator and use well-known Krasnoselski's fixed point theorem. We also give an example with a singular weight which may not be integrable.

  • Singular points are those at which the determinant of a Jacobian matrix is zero. A parallel manipulator gains mostly an extra DOF at the singular points, where it can not be properly controlled. In this study, singular points of a cubic parallel manipulator are illustrated by obtaining the determinant of a Jacobian matrix mathematically, and the singular points of the manipulator are found to be three separate planes in a 3D space. The dependency among links for each singular point is determined by applying linear algebra. Also, the singular points and workspace of the cubic parallel manipulator are plotted to check if the workspace contain singular points.

  • In this paper, we construct a complex reproducing kernel space for singular multi-point BVPs, and skillfully obtain reproducing kernel expressions. Then, we transform the problem into an equivalent operator equation, and give a numerical algorithm to provide the approximate solution. The uniform convergence of this algorithm is proved, and complexity analysis is done. Lastly, we show the validity and feasibility of the numerical algorithm by two numerical examples.

  • In this technical note, I report the analysis of electrochemical impedance data measured with potential sweeping. Even though the instruments for voltammetric impedance measurements have been developed for decades using different approaches, their applications are limited due to the lack of well-established protocols to easily analyze voltammetry data. To fill this gap, the singular point of the specific potential is considered that is only determined by the standard/formal potential and the transfer coefficient and is independent of the kinetics and experimental parameters (including revertability) of faradaic reactions. Taking the advantage of its inertness, I suggest an approach employing the singular point as a reference to obtain general electrochemical information. As all the concepts and methods are verified with numerical simulations, this technique is expected to be applied for complex reactions involving electrochemical and chemical reaction mechanisms.

  • This paper presents the results of an investigation into the isoamperic point of cyclic voltammograms, which is defined as the singular point where the voltammograms of various scan rates converge. The origin of the unique point is first considered from a theoretical perspective by formulating the voltammetric curves as a system of linear equations, the solution of which indicates that a trivial solution is only available at the potential at which the net current is zero during the reverse potential scan. In addition, by way of a mathematical formulation, it was also shown that the isoamperic point is dependent on the switching potential of the potential scanning. To validate these findings, theoretical and practical cyclic voltammmograms were studied using finite-element based digital simulations and 3-electrode cell experiments. The new understanding of the nature of the isoamperic point provides an opportunity to measure the charge transfer effects without the influence of the mass transfer effects when determining the thermodynamic and kinetic characteristics of a faradaic system.

  • This paper is concerned with a kind of non-homogeneous boundary value problems for singular second order differential systems with Laplacian operators. Using multiple fixed point theorems, sufficient conditions to guarantee the existence of at least three solutions of this kind of boundary value problems are established. An example is presented to illustrate the main results.

  • In this article, we establish the existence of at least three unbounded positive solutions to a boundary-value problem of the nonlinear singular fractional differential equation. Our analysis relies on the well known fixed point theorems in the cones.

  • Wood, laminates, reinforced concrete, and some special types of metals systems with controlled grain orientation are often orthotropic and at least rectilinearly anisotropic from point to point, if regarded as homogeneous media. Orthotropic bodies where a crack is not associated with a plane of elastic symmetry may be conveniently treated as a crack problem in a generally anisotropic body. At this work, approach for the determination of the stress intensity factors (SIF) of anisotropic body using crack tip singular elements is presented. Caculated values are in good agreement with the others.

  • We consider two finite difference approxiamations to a singular boundary value problem arising in the study of a nonlinear circular membrane under normal pressure. It is shown that the rates of convergence are O(h) and O($h^2$), respectively. An iterative scheme is introduced which converges to the solution of the finite difference equations. Finally the numerical experiments are given
