프리즘과 광섬유-평면도파로의 소산장 결합을 이용한 자외선 센서 (UV Sensor using Evanescent Field Coupling of Prism and Fiber-to-Planar Waveguide Coupler)

  • A novel UV sensor was manufactured and characterized using the evanescentfield coupling between fiber-planar waveguide (PWG) coupler and prism. A spiroxazine dye was chosen as planar waveguide because its photochromic isomerization induced by UV irradiation. A novel UV sensor was proposed to measure the variation of refractive index and absorption coefficient simultaneously. The wavelength responses of these sensors by UV exposure times were measured 0.48 nm/sec, 0.757 nm/sec, and ATR output power variations were measured $-0.424{\mu}W$/sec and $-0.62{\mu}W$/sec when UV exposure power were 3 mW and 5 mW, respectively.

  • Single layer Sn doped $In_2O_3$ (ITO) films and ITO 50 nm / Au 10 nm / ITO 40 nm (IAI) multilayer films were prepared with electron beam assisted magnetron sputtering on glass substrates. The effects of the Au interlayer, post-deposition atmosphere annealing and intense electron irradiation on the methanol gas sensitivity were investigated at room temperature. As deposited ITO films did not show any diffraction peaks in the XRD pattern, while the IAI films showed the diffraction peak for $In_2O_3$ (400). In this study, the gas sensitivity of ITO and IAI films increased proportionally with the methanol vapor concentration and an intense electron beam irradiated IAI film shows the higher sensitivity than the others film. From the XRD pattern, it is supposed that increased crystallization promotes the gas sensitivity. This approach is promising in gaining improvement in the performance of IAI gas sensors used for the detection of methanol vapor at room temperature.

전자코에 의한 감마선조사 생굴과 굴자숙액의 향기패턴 변화 (Change in Flavor Patterns of Gamma Irradiated Raw Oyster and Oyster Cooking Drip Determined using an Electric Nose)

  • This study was conducted to evaluate changes in the flavor patterns of gamma irradiated raw oyster and oyster cooking drip using an electronic nose, which consisted of a GC equipped with a surface acoustic wave sensor. The raw oyster was irradiated with 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 kGy, while the oyster cooking drip was irradiated with 10 and 50 kGy. In the case of raw oyster, the intensities of peaks at retention times (RT) of 2.1 sand 6.8 s were increased, but the peak at a RT of 9.0 s was decreased depending on irradiation dose. In the case of oyster cooking drip, the intensities of peaks at RT 2.5 sand RT 4.1 s increased linearly, but at the peak at RT 5.1 s decreased as the irradiation dose increased. The total amount of flavor components measured in raw oyster increased, while that of oyster cooking drip decreased in response to irradiation.

전자빔이 조사된 활성탄소섬유 기반 가스센서의 일산화질소 감지 특성 (Nitric Oxide Sensing Property of Gas Sensor Based on Activated Carbon Fiber Radiated by Electron-beam)

  • 활성탄소섬유가 전사선 조사에 의해 표면 개질되었고, NO가스 감지 능력에 미치는 영향을 살펴보기 위하여 이를 가스센서 전극으로 이용하였다. XPS 분석결과는 전자선에 의하여 표면처리된 활성탄소섬유의 산소 성분이 감소하였으며 표면의 $sp^2$ 결합탄소가 증가한 것을 보여주었다. 이러한 결과는 전자빔 조사에 따른 활성탄소섬유 표면의 구조적 변형때문으로 사료된다. 100 kGy의 전자빔이 조사된 활성탄소섬유 전극의 NO가스 민감도는 약 4%에서 약 8%로 크게 증가하였고, 그 감지 시간 또한 약 360 s에서 120 s로 의미 있게 향상되었다. 이러한 결과는 활성탄소섬유의 전자빔 조사에 의하여 $sp^2$ 탄소 결합의 증가때문에 기인한 것으로, 이는 NO가스 센싱에 대한 전극저항 변화에 상당히 영향을 주었다.

  • During laser irradiation, mechanically deformed cartilage undergoes a temperature dependent phase transformation resulting in accelerated stress relaxation. Clinically, laser-assisted cartilage reshaping may be used to recreate the underlying cartilaginous framework in structures such as ear, larynx, trachea, and nose. Therefore, research and identification of the biophysical transformations in cartilage accompanying laser heating are valuable to identify critical laser dosimetry and phase transformation of cartilage for many clinical applications. quasi-elastic light scattering was investigated using Ho : YAG laser $(\lambda=2.12{\mu}m\;;\;t_p\sim450{\mu}s)$ and Nd:YAG Laser $(\lambda=1.32{\mu}m\;;\;t_p\sim700{\mu}s)$ for heating sources and He : Ne $(\lambda=632.8nm)$ laser, high-power diode pumped laser $(\lambda=532nm)$, and Ti : $Al_2O_3$ femtosecond laser $(\lambda=850nm)$ for light scattering sources. A spectrometer and infrared radiometric sensor were used to monitor the backscattered light spectrum and transient temperature changes from cartilage following laser irradiation. Analysis of the optical, thermal, and quasi-elastic light scattering properties may indicate internal dynamics of proteoglycan movement within the cartilage framework during laser irradiation.

  • The sensitivity of polymer-based capacitive relative humidity (RH) sensors after irradiation with neutrons, electrons and protons was measured. Degradation consists of the decreasing of the upper RH limit that can be measured. At the same time, low RH-level sensitivity is almost stable. After 30 krad of absorption dose, RH cut off is equal to 85% of max value, after 60 krad-40%. Degradation reduces after annealing which indicates high radiation sensitivity of the internal circuit in comparison to RH-sensing polymer film.

Channel Gap Measurements of Irradiated Plate Fuel and Comparison with Post-Irradiation Plate Thickness

  • One of the salient nuclear fuel performance parameters for new fuel types under development is changes in fuel thickness. To test the new commercially fabricated U-10Mo monolithic plate-type fuel, an irradiation experiment was designed that consisted of multiple mini-plate capsules distributed within the Advanced Test Reactor (ATR) core, the mini-plate 1 (MP-1) experiment. Each capsule contains eight mini-plates that were either fueled or "dummy" plates. Fuel thickness changes within a fuel assembly can be characterized by measuring the gaps between the plates ultrasonically. The channel gap probe (CGP) system is designed to measure the gaps between the plates and will provide information that supports qualification of U-10Mo monolithic fuel. This study will discuss the design and the results from the use of a custom-designed CGP system for characterizing the gaps between mini-plates within the MP-1 capsules. To ensure accurate and repeatable data, acceptance and calibration procedures have been developed. Unfortunately, there is no "gold" standard measurement to compare to CGP measurements. An effort was made to use plate thickness obtained from post-irradiation measurements to derive channel gap estimates for comparison with the CGP characterization.

증착 중 자외광 노광에 의한 산화 아연 박막의 특성 변화 (The Effect of in situ Ultraviolet Irradiation on the Chemical Vapor Deposited ZnO Thin Films)

  • ZnO thin films have wide application areas due to its versatile properties as transparent conductors, wide-bandgap n-type semiconductors, gas sensor materials, and etc. We have performed a systematic investigation on ultraviolet-assisted CVD (chemical vapor deposition) method. Ultraviolet irradiation during the deposition of ZnO causes chemical reduction on the growing surface; which results in the reduction of the deposition rate, increase in the surface roughness, and decrease of the electrical resistivity. These effects produce larger characteristic variation with various deposition conditions in terms of surface morphology and optical/electrical properties compared to normal CVD deposited ZnO thin films. This versatile controllability of ultraviolet-assisted CVD can provide a larger processing options in the fabrication of nano-structured materials and flexible device applications.

고선량율 감마선 환경하에서의 카메라 관측성능 (Monitoring Performance of Camera under the High Dose-rate Gamma Ray Environment)

  • In this paper, the gamma ray irradiation test results of the CCD cameras are described. From the low dose-rate (2.11 Gy/h) to the high dose-rate (150 Gy/h) level, which is the same level when the hydrogen explosion was occurred in the 1~3 reactor unit of the Fukushima nuclear power plant, the monitoring performance of the cameras owing to the speckles are evaluated. The numbers of speckles, generated by gamma ray irradiation, in the image of cameras are calculated by image processing technique. And the legibility of the sensor indicator (dosimeter) owing to the numbers of the speckles is presented.

방사선 조사 온도가 타락죽의 이화학적 및 관능적 품질 특성에 미치는 영향 (Effect of Irradiation Temperature on Physicochemical and Sensory Properties of Tarakjuk (Milk Porridge))

  • 방사선 조사 기술을 이용한 타락죽의 멸균 시 관능적 품질을 개선하기 위한 연구의 일환으로 방사선 조사온도에 따른 타락죽의 pH, 지질산패도, 점도, 색도, 관능검사 및 향기패턴을 측정하였다. 그 결과 pH와 색도의 경우 방사선 조사에 의한 변화는 없는 것으로 나타났다. 지질산패도의 경우 조사구 가운데 냉동조사구가 가장 낮았으나, 점도에서는 냉동조사구가 가장 높게 나타났다. 관능검사 결과, 종합적 기호도에서 냉동조사구의 경우 대조구와 유의적 차이가 없는 것으로 나타났다. 향기패턴 분석 결과, 지질산패 및 이취에 관련된 RT 3.88 sec의 peak와 타락죽 고유의 향과 관련한 RT 7.34 sec의 peak를 구분할 수 있었다. 따라서 방사선을 조사에 의한 타락죽의 관능적 품질 저하는 냉동조사를 통해 개선이 가능하였으나, 여전, 지질산패와 점도감소 및 조사취 발생 등에 의한 타락죽 고유의 관능적 품질이 감소되는 것으로 나타나, 추후 항산화제의 첨가 또는 포장방법의 변화 등과 병용처리를 통해 보다 효과적인 품질 개선을 위한 연구가 필요할 것으로 사료되었다.
