The Influences of Teachers' Self-leadership and Principals' Leadership on Teachers' Efficacy (민간 어린이집 교사가 지각하는 셀프리더십과 원장 리더십이 교사효능감에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of directors' leadership and teachers' self leadership on teachers' efficacy. The participants were 217 teachers in private day care centers. LBDQ (Halpin, 1967), RSLQ (Houghton & Neck, 2002), and a teachers' efficacy questionnaire (Kim & Lee) were used. The data collected were analyzed by SPSS 18.0. The results of this study were as follows: First, teachers cognized that directors' leadership was very high. Second, directors' leadership was clustered by 4 types: human oriented, task oriented, leader and deficient type. And, teachers' efficacy was clustered by 4 types: leader, restricted, compensated and task oriented type. Third, directors' task oriented leadership, human oriented leadership, and teachers' self leadership (self punishment, self-goal setting, self observation and self esteem) affected teachers' efficacy. And directors' human oriented leadership and teachers' self leadership (self punishment and self-goal setting) affected teachers' personal efficacy.

The Effect of the Youth perceived importance of Entrepreneurship Education on the self-leadership strategy (청년층의 창업교육 인지도가 셀프리더십 전략수준에 미치는 영향)

  • This study investigate the youth perceived importance of entrepreneurship education program on the self leadership strategy. The findings are as follows: First, the creativity category of entrepreneurship education were positively related with behavior focused self leadership, natural reward self leadership strategy and constructive thought self leadership. Second, the management category of entrepreneurship education were positively related with natural reward self leadership strategy. Third, the patent category of entrepreneurship education were positively related with behavior focused self leadership and constructive thought self leadership. Consequently, when the youth recognized the importance of management, creativity and patent category, the level of self control, self reward and self efficacy were increased.

Analysis of Family Function, Self-Efficacy and Self-Leadership in Adolescents (청소년의 가족기능, 자기효능감 및 셀프리더십 분석)

  • Purpose: This study was done to identify the relationship of family function, self-efficacy and self-leadership, and to identify factors affecting self-leadership in adolescents. Method: Sampling was done using a convenience sampling method and 779 adolescents were recruited between June 4 and 15, 2012. Data were collected using self-report questionnaires which included general characteristics, family function, self-efficacy and self-leadership. Data were analyzed using descriptive, t-test, one way ANOVA, Scheffe test, Pearson correlation coefficient, and stepwise regression analysis with SPSS/WIN 19.0. Results: The major findings of this study were as follow; 1) There were significant relationships between self-leadership and family function (r=.36, p<.001), and self-efficacy (r=.51, p<.001). 2) Self-leadership was significantly associated with self-efficacy (${\beta}$=.42, p<.001), family function (${\beta}$=.20, p<.001), satisfactory relationships with teachers (${\beta}$=.12, p<.001), experience as a leader (${\beta}$=.10, p=.001), higher school records (${\beta}$=.17, p<.001), and medium school records (${\beta}$=.11, p=.001). These variables explained 40.4% of variance in adolescents' self-leadership. Conclusion: The results of this study indicate that there is a relationship between family function, self-efficacy and self-leadership in adolescents and that in developing intervention programs to promote self-leadership, in adolescents, these variables should be considered.

The Impact of Servant Leadership Mediated through Self Leadership on Job Attitude - Centered on Hotel Restaurant Employees - (셀프리더십을 매개로 한 서번트 리더십이 직무 태도에 미치는 영향)

  • Hotel practitioners are searching for leadership typology to maximize employees' capabilities and consistency in their attitude. Also, they are increasingly interested in their employees' traits which constitute and influence their job attitude. This study sought to investigate the impact of servant leadership mediated through self-leadership on employees' job attitude. Focused on hotel restaurant employees, representing 15 hotels in Seoul Metropolitan Area, a survey was conducted and 272 respondents out of 297 were empirically analyzed. The collected data was analyzed with the SPSS 12.0 for Windows and AMOS software program. Structural equation modeling was conducted to test the hypotheses. The results suggested that servant leadership has a significant impact on self-leadership. Furthermore, self-leadership was found to have a significant impact on job satisfaction. However, direct influence of self-leadership on organizational commitment was not found. Finally, servant leadership was found to have a direct impact on job satisfaction. On the other hand, servant leadership positively influences on organizational commitment when mediated through self-leadership. In addition, this study provides practical implications for hotel restaurant professionals in linking servant leadership mediated through self-leadership to job attitude.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the effects of transformational leadership and organizational citizenship behavior. It also investigated the mediating effect of self leadership on the causal relationship between transformational leadership and organizational citizenship behavior. Research results, transformational leadership had a positive affected on the self leadership, The self leadership had a positive affected on organizational citizenship behavior. And transformational leadership did not make a significant impact on organizational citizenship behavior. Finally, the self leadership was a full mediator on the relationships between the transformational leadership and the organizational citizenship behavior. Based on these findings, the implications and the limitations of the study were presented including some directions for future studies.

Effect of Nursing Students' Flipped Learning-type Project-based Learning on Nursing College Students' Self-directed Learning Ability, Self-leadership, and Academic Self-efficacy (플립러닝형 프로젝트기반 학습이 간호대학생의 자기주도적 학습능력, 셀프리더십과 학업적 자기효능감에 미치는 효과)

  • Purpose: This study aims to provide basic data for future nursing education by identifying the effects of flipped learning-type project-based learning on nursing college students' self-directed learning ability, self-leadership, and academic self-efficacy. Methods: It is a pre-experimental study designed before and after a single group to verify the effect of flipped learning project-based learning on nursing students' self-directed learning ability, self-leadership, and academic self-efficacy in 81 third-grade nursing students. Results: No statistically significant difference in self-efficacy (t=-0.80, p=.545) but self-directed learning ability (t=-3.85, p<.001) and self-leadership (t=-5.18, p<.001) were found to have a statistically significant difference before and after. Conclusion: Flipped learning-type project-based learning was confirmed effective in improving nursing college students' self-directed learning ability and self-leadership. Therefore, instructors will need to develop and apply teaching methods that provide learners with opportunities for pre-learning and carry out learner-centered projects to improve nursing college students' self-directed learning ability and self-leadership.

Influence of Professional Self-concept and Self-leadership on Clinical Competence in Nursing Students (간호대학생의 전문직 자아개념과 셀프리더십이 임상수행능력에 미치는 영향)

  • Purpose: This study was done in order to identify nursing students' professional self-concept, self-leadership and clinical competence and to analyze the correlation among the variables and the factors influencing clinical competence. Methods: The research participants were 294 senior nursing students in the nursing departments of 3 universities located in Jeollabuk-do. The students had completed 3 semesters of clinical practice. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficient, and Multiple Regression. Results: Participants' scores for professional self-concept, self-leadership, clinical competence were $2.78{\pm}0.36$, $3.63{\pm}0.47$, $3.80{\pm}0.40$ respectively. Professional self-concept, self-leadership and clinical competence had positive correlations. Factors influencing nursing students' clinical competence included professional self-concepts in professional practice, self-expectations in self-leadership, constructive thinking, self-compensation and self-criticism in that order, and these variables explained 48%of the variance in clinical competence. Conclusion: Based on these results, it is important to develop and apply educational programs to increase professional self-concept and self-leadership in order to improve nursing students' clinical competence.

The Relation between Self-leadership and Outcome of Nursing Practice (간호사의 셀프리더십과 간호업무성과간의 관계)

  • Purpose: This study was undertaken in order to suggest self-leadership as a way to promote organization efficiency of nursing organization. So the relation between self-leadership and outcome of nursing practice in organization was studied. Method: The subjects of study were nurses as a population who were working for the 2 of university hospitals which have over 500 beds in Kyong Ki Province as well as who have been working for over 6 months. The data was collected by questionnaires from 215 nurses and analyzed using descriptive statistics, perason correlation coefficient, t-test and ANOVA on SAS Program. Results: Self-leadership of nurse got 3.51 grade out of 5 as a mean point. Each of the segments got 3.74 in self-compensation, 3.57 in self-expectation, 3.53 in goal-setting, 3.45 in rehearsal, 3.37 in self-criticism and 3.30 in constructive thinking in order. Independent performance of nursing practice at each items of outcome of nursing practice showed the highest correlations with the self-expectation among self-leadership segments. Constructive thinking, self-compensation, rehearsal, goal-setting were related like this in order, but self-criticism was related just a little. Dependent nursing practice has the highest correlation with the self-expectation, goal-setting, rehearsal, constructive thinking, self-compensation were similar as aboves in order, but self-criticism didn't show any similar correlations. Relationship practice has the highest correlation with the self-expectation, and goal-setting, constructive thinking, self-compensation, rehearsal were similar, while self-criticism did not show any correlations. Conclusion: In conclusion the result was obtained that self-leadership is much correlated with outcome of nursing practice. Therefore, as a way to promote efficiency of nursing organization, the constant study about self-leadership with the various aspects is needed focusing on self-management and inner motivation as a new leadership paradigm.

The Influence Factors and Effects of Self-leadership: Focusing on Members of the Hospitals (셀프리더십의 영향요인과 효과: 의료기관 조직구성원을 중심으로)

  • The purpose of this empirical study is to investigate the factors of self-leadership depending on individual characteristics, job characteristics, and qualities of leader-member exchange. Additionally, this study aims to discover the effect of self-leadership's outcome factors on organizational citizenship behavior and innovative activities. In order to verify research model and hypothesis, questionnaires were collected from department members working at general hospitals, hospitals, and clinics in metropolitan area of Seoul, which were 85 departments and 344 respondents. Collected data were analyzed with SPSS ver. 19.0 and Amos ver. 18.0 statistical package using Structural Equation Model. The results of the analysis showed that both individual characteristics and job characteristics have significant positive effect on self-leadership. Also, self-leadership had significant positive relationship on innovative action and organizational citizenship behavior. The implications of this study are as follow. First, this study empirically explained how self-leadership is applied in healthcare organizations. Second, it verified the relationship between causal factors and outcome factors of self-leadership. Also, prior researches of self-leadership have been conducted on business companies, but this study explored self-leadership at healthcare organizations, which increased external validity. Nowadays, many people are interested in the effect of leadership in order to overcome issues coming from enlarged organizations and to improve performance. Self-leadership will contribute to maximizing voluntary efforts of human resources and performance in a rapidly changing healthcare industry.

Perceived Relationship among Professional Self-Concept, Head Nurse's Leadership, and Nursing Clinical Competency by Clinical Nurses (간호사가 지각하는 전문직 자아개념, 수간호사의 리더십과 간호사 업무수행 능력간의 관계)

  • Purpose: This study was performed to investigate the perceived relationship among professional self-concept, head nurse's leadership, and nursing clinical competency by clinical nurses. Methods: This study was a cross-sectional survey. Participants were 601 nurses working at the five general hospitals in four provincial cities, Gyeungbuk, Korea. Data were collected from July 14, 2010 to August 31 and analyzed by SPSS/PC ver 18.0 programs. Results: Professional self-concept and head nurse's leadership were slightly above the middle average, but nursing clinical competency was good. According to participants' age, marital status, job satisfaction, and length of service, there were perceptional differences in professional self-concept, head nurse's leadership, and nursing clinical competency. Nursing clinical competency could be explained by head nurse's leadership, professional self-concept, job satisfaction and length of service. Head nurse's leadership was independent variable affecting nursing clinical competency, professional self-concept was partial mediating variable, and job satisfaction and length of service were extraneous variables. Conclusion: It is concluded that head nurse's leadership is more important than professional self-concept to improve nursing clinical competency. Nursing managers should plan various strategies to improve head nurse's leadership and professional self-concept, to increase clinical nurses' job satisfaction and length of service.
