Objectives: This study aimed to provide the measures for improving the self-directed learning ability and the reference data for substantializing the educational programs by verifying the main factors affecting the self-directed learning ability of dental hygiene students in reality when the learners' autonomy is emphasized than ever. Methods: From June 20 to July 4, 2022, an online survey was conducted targeting total 218 dental hygiene students. The collected data was analyzed by using the SPSS Program Version 22.0. Results: First, in the results of analyzing differences in detailed items of self-directed learning ability according to the general characteristics, the 'students who entered the department of dental hygiene by considering their aptitude and interest' showed higher results than the 'students who entered the department by considering their high school record'. Second, when the academic efficacy, study immersion, and problem-solving ability of dental hygiene students were higher, their self-directed learning ability was also high. Third, the factor that had the greatest effect on self-directed learning ability of dental hygiene students was problem-solving ability, which was followed by academic efficacy and study immersion. Conclusion: Putting together the results above, in order to cultivate the problem-solving ability of dental hygiene students, it would be necessary to operate the problem-solving-centered simulation course that could foster critical thinking, interactions with others, and creative approach and solution to problems in dental medical site. It would be also possible to improve their academic efficacy by applying the learning mentoring & one-to-one learning counseling program, and also strengthening proper feedbacks for learners. Moreover, the study immersion could be strengthened by developing and operating the emotion-based learning motivation program & learning coaching program through the process of verifying the potential and growth needs of learners, exploring one's own resources through learning diagnosis/introspection, and exploring the career-related vision for strengthening the learning motivation, which could have positive effects on the improvement of self-directed learning ability.

The objective of this study was to investigate the effect of undergraduates' self-directed learning on the school life satisfaction and interpersonal relation ability. For this purpose, 341 undergraduates were targeted and analyzed. The results of the study are as follows. First, as a result of analyzing school life satisfaction, a sub-factor of self-directed learning, all of gender, grade, and age affected. In addition, sub-factors such as study confidence, study passion, study responsibility seemed to affect positively significantly in order. Second, as a result of analyzing the effect on interpersonal relation skills of self-directed study, there was no significant relation in gender, grade, and age. Based on the results of this study, it was confirmed that school life satisfaction and interpersonal relation abilities are closely related to self-directed learning. This is significant in that to revitalize institutions such as educational service, study support for students, self-directed learning programs development in education field at the university, etc. are required.
This study had a purpose to examine that problem solving process through the product design and conceptual design in engineering design education affected the improvement of students' self-directed learning ability. For this, we conducted in-depth interview with students that taken the introductory engineering design course. The main findings were as follows. First, the importance of diagnosing the learning needs and defining the problem was realized. Second, the importance of organizing lesson plans for problem solving and performing it out systematically was acknowledged. Third, they knew that continuous modification and supplements were needed, and also reviews and checks were needed after the evaluation process. Based on these results, the problem solving process of engineering design education affected a positive effect to students' self-directed learning.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to construct the education applying the Havruta method for nursing students and to investigate the effects on self-directed learning ability, critical thinking, and learning commitment. Methods: A nonequivalent control group pre-posttest design was used. The participants were 63 nursing students (experimental group, n=31; control group, n=32) at two universities. The experimental group received education applying the Havruta method for five weeks. The study was conducted from September 1 to November 30, 2022. The data were analyzed using IBM SPSS 27.0 for an χ2 test, Fisher's exact test, independent t-test, and Mann-Whitney U-test. Results: The experimental group had a significant increase in self-directed learning ability (z=-2.13, p=.033). However, there was no significant difference in critical thinking competency (t=0.64, p=.524) and learning commitment (t=0.04, p=.969) between the two groups. Conclusion: The Havruta method is an effective nursing education tool for self-directed learning ability. The result of this study could be a guide for nursing professors in designing and implementing educational programs that apply the Havruta method. In the future, research that applies the Havruta method and evaluates its effectiveness in nursing education programs should be continued.
This study was performed by targeting nurses majoring in nursing science of Korea National Open University in order to examine the level of their class satisfaction, academic self-efficacy and self-directed learning ability and to identify their effects on self-directed learning ability. Data was collected by targeting 231 nurses majoring in nursing science of Korea National Open University and for data analysis, technical statistics, correlation analysis and multiple regression analysis were performed through statistical analysis program. This study revealed that there was significant correlation among the levels of participants' class satisfaction, self-directed learning ability and academic self-efficacy and it was identified that class satisfaction and self-directed learning ability affected academic self-efficacy. The findings of this study could be utilized as base data when developing a program to enhance nursing student's self-directed learning ability and it is suggested that an interventional research of analyzing validity and effectiveness of developed education program would be also required.
This study was conducted to explore whether problem-solving ability mediates the effect of self-directed learning ability on interest level in a distance learning environment. The subjects of this study were 64 students in the Department of Christian Education and Early Childhood Education at A University located in Gyeonggi-do. For this study, data were collected through questionnaires on interest level, self-directed learning ability, and problem-solving ability. Collected data are analyzed using SPSS Macro and bootstrapping method. As a result, self-directed learning ability for interest level has a positive effect on .651 level. The influence of self-directed learning ability in step 2, which includes problem-solving ability, which is a parameter. It was lowered to .543 level. And the effect of problem-solving ability was found to be at .360 level. As a result, it can be judged that problem-solving ability mediates the effect of self-directed learning ability on interest level. The research results suggest that the level of interest can be improved by supporting problem-solving skills in a distance learning environment.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the structural relationship among self-directed learning ability, learner-instructor interaction, learner-learner interaction, and class satisfaction in online learning environments by the structural equation modelling (SEM). Participants of the study consisted of 300 students (110 = high school students, 190 = college students). Through latent mean analysis (LMA), there was no significant difference of study variables between high school and college groups. However, thorough multi-group analysis, self-directed learning ability had a direct and indirect effect on class satisfaction for the college group via learner-instructor and learner-learner interactions, while learner-learner interaction played a full mediating role of the relationship between self-directed learning ability and class satisfaction for the high school group. In addition, self-directed learning ability had a stronger influence on learner-learner interaction for the college group than the high school group. These results would provide important implications for understanding the different mechanisms between high school and college online learning contexts.

In accordance with the educational paradigm that values self-directed creative education, school libraries and public libraries emphasize self-directed learning support through curriculum-linked programs as their main tasks. For self-directed learning, it is essential to provide learner-centered educational knowledge information, and there should be abundant textbook-linked references that can deepen and expand the curriculum reflected in textbooks. This study established KDC-linked information related to unit and cross-curricular learning topics through the analysis of elementary school textbooks and curriculum-linked books, restructured KDC system based on major subjects in the elementary school curriculum, and established a curriculum-linked subject information. Libraries can strengthen support for self-directed creative learning for elementary school students in an online environment by linking library content targeted for each user with elementary school education content focusing on learning topics in the curriculum.
purpose: The study was performed by targeting nursing students in order to examine the level of their self-directed learning ability, self efficacy and learner satisfaction and to identify their effects on learner satisfaction. methods: A structured self-administered questionnaire was used, and a total of 150 questionnaires were distribute. Data were collected from 150 nursing students at D university located in D city, and a total of 141 students were included for the final analysis. Data were collected between November 15, 2017 to December 16, 2017, and questionnaire comprised items to measure general characteristics, self-directed learning ability, self efficacy and learner satisfaction. results: In addition, learner satisfaction was positively correlated with self-direct learning ability, self-efficacy. Finally, self-direct learning ability, self-efficacy and interpersonal relationship were found to explain 42.9% of the variance of learner satisfaction. conclusion: The findings of this study could be utilized as base data when developing a program to enhance nursing students's learner satisfaction and it is suggested that an interventional research of analyzing validity and effectiveness of developed education program would be also required.
As the subjects of education has been changed from the instructors to learners, a web-based self-directed learning which can accelerate the initiative of learners and can be free from the restriction of time and space has been received attention. In this paper, the web-based self-directed learning system was designed. For the design, to make the learners build their own lecture plan, the service was designed to provide three kinds of lectures of video clip, slide lecture, and e-text lecture that were focused on various lecture contents. In addition, a learner and an assistant was man to man matched to enable the on-line mentoring for mutual communication between learners and assistants. Implementation was carried out by three sets of module - Manager, Learner and Assistant - that were applied to the real educational activities. The survey on satisfaction for the education, efficiency of ability improvement, and educational intelligibility for the attendants on the education showed more than 67.2% of satisfaction in satisfaction for the education. Furthermore, more than 86.9% of attendants replied that their ability were improved after the education of this system. The educational system realized in this paper shows effectiveness for the self-directed learning.
