  • This study purposed to discuss and suggest how to apply the internationally circulated standard Korean language curriculum to the fields of education. For this purpose, principles of the curriculum development that use reference of criterions like setting the education goals and stages of the Korean as second foreign language at the Korean foreign secondary school with the cases were reviewed. Studies about the curriculums of Korean language as an unit of state were began at 2010 and being continued in 2017. These researches pointed out a standard of the Korean language education, which influenced the development of curriculums, evaluations, and textbooks. Korean language teachers need lots of informations how to adjust the curriculums because they recognize that the curriculum as a reference of criteria is very difficult to be utilized. Roles of the reference of criteria that were extracted from the review on the curriculum development of the Korean as a second foreign language are providing a content basis for setting the goals of the curriculum and setting the stages connected with the operation of semesters. After the macroscopic development, plans for the phase of a syllabus run along. At this stage, sources of the items of education should be offered and elaboration of the education contents may design the syllabus. Finally, through a series of process, programs for Korean language education and textbook will be completed. Through this whole process, standard curriculum provides orientation and guidelines for the process of the development.

  • The aim of this study was to deduce implications of the growth of mathematics teachers' specialty for effective instruction about the formulae of exponentiation with rational exponents by analyzing teachers' understanding of the definition of rational exponent. In order to accomplish the aim, this study ascertained the nature of the definition of rational exponent through examining previous literature and established specific research questions with reference to the results of the examination. A questionnaire regarding the nature of the definition was developed in order to solve the questions and was taken to 50 in-service high school teachers. By analysing the data from the written responses by the teachers, this study delineated four characteristics of the teachers' understanding with regard to the definition of rational exponent. Firstly, the teachers did not explicitly use the condition of the bases with rational exponents while proving f'(x)=rxr-1. Secondly, few teachers explained the reason why the bases with rational exponents must be positive. Thirdly, there were some teachers who misunderstood the formulae of exponentiation with rational exponents. Lastly, the majority of teachers thought that $(-8)^{\frac{1}{3}}$ equals to -2. Additionally, several issues were discussed related to teacher education for enhancing teachers' knowledge about the definition, features of effective instruction on the formulae of exponentiation and improvement points to explanation methods about the definition and formulae on the current high school textbooks.

  • Computational Thinking is an analytical thinking ability that is necessary for everyone and everywhere. The existing Computational Thinking development education provided in Practical textbooks leads to block-based programming languages from unplugged activities. Many unplugged activities focus on practicing sequential order, which may lack the learning of abstractions or automation concepts. In block-based programming languages, concepts such as coordinate planes, which are not introduced in elementary school curriculum, appear, making students feel burdened by the block-based programming language itself. In this study, a curriculum was designed for elementary student's computational thinking through game-based programming language education. The results and their effectiveness were analyzed through the beaver challenge. As a result of analyzing the pre-test and post-test scores, it was confirmed that students' computational thinking skills improved.

  • This study investigated teachers' decision-making and related factors in the elementary textbook adoption process. Our participants include 296 elementary teachers who took part in the mathematics textbook (grades 3 and 4) adoption committees in his/her schools. Our study used the decision-making model of Shavelson and Stern (1981) for analyzing teacher beliefs and attitudes concerning choices and priorities, judgments, evaluation methods, and key factors to reviewing and selecting a mathematics textbook. Our discussion includes teacher beliefs and intentions and the way they come into conflict with determinant factors that influence the decision-making of textbook adoption. Findings also reveal the unique nature of elementary school teaching as generalists in contrast with secondary teachers as specialists, playing a significant role in the adoption process. Lastly, the study discusses the entanglements of textbook reform and explains the discrepancy between textbook authorization/approval policies versus the plight of little change (and innovation) in mathematics textbooks.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the contents of global citizenship education in the 2015 revision of Home Economics textbook and examine the relevance of global citizenship education in the subject of Home Economics. To this end, the contents of global citizenship education included in the 2015 revision of middle school Home Economics textbook were extracted and analyzed from the viewpoint of the UNESCO Topics and Learning Objectives (TLO), according to the procedure of the concurrent triangulation design. When the frequencies of inclusion of the 9 topics of TLOs were counted, about 54.6% of global citizenship education(GCED) content covered in the 2015 revision of Home Economics textbooks in total was related to the socio-emotional aspects. In particular, TLO 4 (Different levels of identity) showed the highest ratio, followed by TLO 5(Different communities people belong to and how these are connected) and TLO 1 (Local, national and global systems and structures). As a result of categorizing global citizenship education learning topics extracted from Home Economics textbooks of middle school by Home Economics sub-topic area, the child and family(94) area showed the greatest relevance to all learning topics. Food and nutrition(13), clothing(13), housing(15), and consumption (14) showed similar distributions of learning subjects. Child and family area is related to global citizenship education in the topics of adolescent development and its characteristics, family relations, sexual and domestic violences prevention, change in family structures and healthy families, aging society and work-family balance, and life planning and career exploration. The food and nutrition area is related to global citizenship education in the topics of nutrition and eating behavior, and adolescents' food selection and safe cooking. The topic of clothing management and recycling of clothing area, housing culture, residential space utilization, and residential life and safety of housing area, consumer life in adolescence of consumption area were related to the learning subject of global citizenship education. As such, high relations between GCED learning topics and Home Economics learning content elements were found.
