Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify factors influencing performance of MultiDrug-Resistant Organisms (MDROs) infection control by nurses in general hospitals. Methods: The research design was a descriptive survey design using convenience sampling. Data were collected from 130 nurses working in 6 general hospitals. Collected data were analyzed using SPSS/WIN 21.0 program for descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficients and multiple regression analysis. Results: General hospital nurses' MDROs infection control performance was influenced by their awareness of environmental safety, recognition of MDROs infection control, number of beds in the hospital, whether nurses had nursing experience with infection control and guidelines for MDROs infection control. The most important predictors of MDROs infection control performance were awareness of environmental safety and recognition of MDROs infection control. Conclusion: Findings indicate that it is necessary to include content related to awareness of environmental safety and recognition of infection control in developing MDROs infection control education programs for general hospital nurses.
Purpose: This study was conducted to investigate influencing factors on recovery among alcoholics. Methods: The participants were 123 hospitalized patients with alcohol use disorder in two hospitals in Gyeonggi province. The data were collected from May 16 to June 4, 2012 using self-report questionnaires including Hanil Alcohol Insight Scale, Alcohol Abstinence Self-Efficacy Scale, and Recovery Scale. The data were analyzed using the SPSS/Win 18.0 program with descriptive statistics, Pearson's correlation coefficient and regression analysis. Results: Recovery is positively related to abstinence self-efficacy and duration of abstinence. Recovery differed by insight type, gender, and occupation. Insight, duration of abstinence, gender, and occupation accounted for 59.1% of the variance in recovery of the alcoholics. Conclusion: The influencing factors on recovery among alcoholics were insight, duration of abstinence, gender, and occupation. Programs focusing on insight, abstinence self-efficacy, and abstinence maintenance should be developed and provided. When developing the programs, the environmental context in which the alcoholics work should be considered.
Purpose: This study examines the factors affecting patient-centered nursing among regional public hospital nurses, with a focus on communications, professionalism, organizational culture, and teamwork. Methods: We included 162 nurses working at five regional public hospitals in G province. Data were collected from October 7 through October 19, 2019 using self-report questionnaires. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test or ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficient, and hierarchical multiple regression analysis using SPSS (Version 24.0). Results: The factors affecting patient-centered nursing included an innovation-oriented culture, working in an intensive care unit, hierarchy-oriented culture, and nursing professionalism. These variables explained 43% of patient-centered nursing. Conclusions: These results suggest that enhancing an innovation-oriented culture is necessary for patient-centered nursing and to improve nurses' awareness about the importance of patient-centered nursing. Moreover, organizational efforts are required to increase nurses' professionalism through suitable educational programs in regional public hospitals.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to analyzing the relationship between perceived health status, health locus of control, self-esteem, self-efficacy and HPB in patients with multiple myeloma to identify factors influencing health promoting behavior (HPB). Methods: One hundred patients were recruited into the study. The data were collected by personal interviews using questionnaires. Descriptive statistics, Pearson's correlation coefficients and stepwise multiple regression analysis were used with SPSS program to were analyze the data. Results: There were significant relationships between self-esteem (r=.787, p<.001), self-efficacy (r=.681, p<.001), internal health locus of control (r=.557, p<.001), powerful others health locus of control (r=.517, p<.001), chance health locus of control (r=-.251, p=.012), perceived health status (r=.532, p<.001) and HPB. Significant factors in explaining HPB were self-esteem, powerful others health locus of control, self-efficacy and perceived health status and together they accounted for 71% of variance. Conclusion: The study findings indicate that self-esteem, powerful others health locus of control, self-efficacy, and perceived health status were important factors in explaining HPB in patients with multiple myeloma. As self-esteem was an important variable in HPB, health promotion program designed for this population should focus on self-esteem and these other factors to enhance effective health promotion behavior.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between work-family conflict, social support, job satisfaction, and organizational commitment which are closely linked to staff turnover from the perspective of married hospital nurses. Method: A survey was conducted using self-report structured questionnaire from 220 married nurses. Data analysis included descriptive statistics, t-test, one-way ANOVA, correlation and multiple linear regression with SPSS Win 17.0 program. Results: Job satisfaction, social support, work-family conflict and age were strong predictors of organizational commitment. These variables explained 46.5% of the variance of the organizational commitment. Higher levels of organizational commitment were associated with greater job satisfaction and social support. Nurse with lower levels of work-family conflict and older age reported a high level of organizational commitment. Conclusion: These results show that improving job satisfaction has the best effect on enhancing nurses' organizational commitment. Also supportive relationships, reduction of work-family conflict and older age were significantly correlated with organizational commitment. Organizations should design more family-friendly policies and provide opportunities for career development to health professionals to induce organizational commitment.
Purpose: The objective of this study was to investigate the influence of hospital nurses' self-leadership, communication skill, and self-esteem on the quality of nursing service. Methods: The participants, 230 nurses working at a general hospital in Seoul, completed a cross-sectional descriptive questionnaire survey between January 17 and 28, 2014. The collected data were analyzed using the SPSS 19.0 program for descriptive statistics, t-test, one way & two way ANOVA, correlation, and multiple regression analysis. Results: Nurses' self-esteem and communication skill had significant main effects on self-leadership and the quality of nursing service, but the interaction effect of the two independent variables was not significant. Variables that significantly influenced the quality of nursing service were self-leadership, communication skill, self-esteem, and career longevity. The explanatory power of these variables for the quality of nursing service was 54.4%. Conclusion: Findings indicate a need for education programs for nurses which are designed to promote communication skill and enhance self-esteem and self-leadership skills which will in turn enhance the quality of nursing service.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to explain the relationship between fatigue and other variables(perceived health status, marital adjustment and stress), and define the main factors influencing fatigue in middle aged women. Methods: Data were collected by self-reported questionnaires from 212 middle aged women. Data analysis was done with the SPSS 11.0 pc+ program for descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation coefficients and stepwise multiple regression. Results: The mean score of fatigue was 2.30(${\pm}0.46$), perceived health status was 2.82(${\pm}0.68$), marital adjustment was 2.86(${\pm}0.44$), and stress was 2.43(${\pm}0.61$). There were significant correlations between fatigue and the other variables(r=.56-.21, p=.00). The major factors that affect fatigue in middle aged women were stress, perceived health status, and marital adjustment, which explained 35.2% of fatigue. Conclusion: These variables have an effect on middle aged women's fatigue. Therefore, these findings can provide the basis for the development of nursing interventions to manage fatigue.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify factors affecting health promotion behavior among workers with high risk of metabolic syndrome. This study was based on the planned behavior theory. Methods: The participants were 167 workers at high risk of metabolic syndrome. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire. Surveyed variables were attitude, subjective norm, perceived behavioral control, intention, and health promotion behavior. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficients, and hierarchical regression analysis with SPSS/WIN 22.0. Results: Perceived behavioral control affected the intention of health promotion behavior among the workers with high risk of metabolic syndrome. It explained 62% of variance in the intention of health promotion behavior (F=40.09, p<.001). Perceived behavioral control and occupation affected health promotion behavior among the risk workers with high risk of metabolic syndrome. The two factors explained 16% of variance in health promotion behavior (F=4.95, p<.001). Conclusion: The findings of this study suggest that perceived behavioral control is the only factor affecting health promotion behavior when the theory of planned behavior was applied. Therefore, intervention programs for improving health promotion behavior should be focused on strengthening perceived behavioral control.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the level of uncertainty, physiological risk factors, self-efficacy, and self-management among stroke patients and to identify factors influencing their self-management. Methods: A descriptive correlational design was used for this study. A convenience sample of 149 patients with stroke were enrolled at C national university hospital from February to April in 2016. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire and electronic medical record. Collected data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlations, and multiple regression analysis with the SPSS/WIN 21.0 program. Results: There were significant negative correlations between uncertainty and self-efficacy (r=-.56, p<.001); between uncertainty and self-management (r=-.56, p<.001); and between total cholesterol and self-management (r=-.23, p=.005). There were significant positive correlations between self-efficacy and self-management (r=.78, p<.001); between uncertainty and total cholesterol (r=.24, p=.003). The significant factors influencing self-management were uncertainty and self-efficacy. Theses variables explained 62.7% of the variance in self-management. Conclusion: The results suggest that intervention programs to reduce the level of uncertainty and to increase the level of self-efficacy among patients would improve the self-management of stroke patients.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of parent-adolescent communication on academic stress and peer relationship perceived by high school students.
