Piezoelectric shunt is an electric type damper capable of reducing the vibration of the structure. Vibration generated at the natural frequency of the structure are converted into electrical energy through the piezoelectric material attached to the structure. Electric energy can be dissipated by thermal energy using piezoelectric shunt composed of inductor and resistance to reduce vibration. In this paper, the equation for the optimum inductance required to reduce the vibration of the cantilever beam was examined and the vibration of the aluminum cantilever was reduced by using finite element analysis and experiments. In the finite element analysis, the mode shape and the strain energy distribution were calculated to examine the mounting position, and the vibration reduction of the cantilever was calculated by adjusting the inductance and resistance circuit values. In addition, in the experiment, a variable inductor module was used to reduce the vibration occurring at a specific frequency of the cantilever. Finally, based on the results of the finite element analysis and the experiment, it was verified that the piezoelectric shunt can effectively reduce the vibration of the cantilever.

Driving of the engine makes unbalance forces which induces vibration to the engine mount system. Active vibration control must be performed to reduce the vibration and the propagation of structure-born sound. In this study, the engine system is modeled as 3-dim. vibration system including flexible structures and an effective active noise control method is proposed. Also, appropriate actuator and sensor locations and types are selected. The miniature of the engine vibration system with multi-input multi-output is built and an active vibration control with multiple filtered-X LMS algorithm is applied to it. The applied control method was effective to reduce the transmitted vibration power through the rubber mount It showed the feasibility of the control of the engine vibration systems with flexible structures.

The purpose of this paper was to identify the mechanism that caused abnormal vibration and noise on the piping system connected to discharge flow of BFP(Boiler Feed water Pump) in a coal fired power plant, and to develop the device that can reduce the level of abnormal vibration and noise. Major results of this project can be summarized as follows: First, we analyzed the acoustic mode for the discharge piping of BFP to trace a path of the noise, and assumed that noise and vibration on the piping system can be related with length of pipe. Second, a minimized model of the piping system was set up to simulate abnormal vibration and noise within the specific range of operating frequencies, and as a result we confirmed that the acoustic mode affected the piping system considerably. Finally the test device which can reduce the level of abnormal noise and vibration was built to verify validity applying for the piping system. Then we concluded that the noise and vibration generated from the piping system was attributed to the acoustic resonance in piping system, and so developed new device which can reduce the level of noise and vibration under 40%. Put Abstract here.

The 84m discharge line of moisture separator reheater(MSR) in Kori-2 had been suffered by excessive vibration from the beginning of power generation. In 1993, a complementary measure was taken to reduce the vibration level by adding several supports in the MSR pipeline. However, the piping vibration was beyond the allowable limit and an appropriate countermeasure was required to prevent the fatigue failure of the pipeline from the abnormal vibration. In this study, the vibrational characteristics of MSR pipeline and the countermeasure for abnormal vibration was investigated. Among the several vibration reduction methods, piping layout change by smoothing the pipeline was applied to the MSR pipeline in Kori-2. Applying the countermeasure, the vibration level was found to dramatically reduce from 17cm/sec to l.0cm/sec at the full-power operation condition.

The purpose of this study is to analyze the principal causes of vibration problem and find out the method of vibration reduction in a chip-mount system. The principal causes are investigated through measurements of vibration spectrum and model parameters. Modal parameters are obtained by using an experimental model test. Based on the model parameters from experiments. a model of finite element method is formulated. The model presents effective redesign of increasing the natural frequencies in order to reduce the vibration of a chip-mount system. Further, through computer simulation for the behavior of head to be main vibration source, the best acceleration pattern of head movement can be verified to achieve effective head-positioning and reduce the vibration due to head movement.

The nuclear power plant's turbine-generator system had been suffered form some problems, such as high shaft vibration, generator casing crack, stator coil water leakage, high $H_2$ gas consumption rate. Those kinds of problems were related to high vibration. So nuclear plant decided to replace generator in order to reduce rotor high vibration and high thermal sensitivity. A series of effort to reduce turbine-generator vibration was carried out as followings, first of all, replacement of generator, analysis of turbine-generator vibration, LP B rotor shop balancing, improvement of LP B/Gen coupling run-out, improvement of Generator basement and field balancing. Finally the nuclear turbine-generator's shaft vibration was reduced below $60{\mu}m$ from over $200{\mu}m$ which is very excellent vibration in nuclear turbine-generator in Korea.
Numerous studies have repeatedly demonstrated the efficiency of using skirts to increase the bearing capacity and to reduce settlement of shallow foundations subjected to static loads. However, no efforts have been made to study the efficiency of using these skirts to reduce settlement produced by machine vibration, although machines are very sensitive to settlement and the foundations of these machines should be designed properly to ensure that the settlement produced due to machine vibration is very small. This research has been conducted to investigate the efficiency of using skirts as a technique to reduce the settlement of a strip foundation subjected to machine vibration. A two-dimensional finite element model has been developed, validated, and employed to achieve the aim of the study. The results of the analyses showed that the use of skirts reduces the settlement produced due to machine vibration. However, the percentage decrease of the settlement is remarkably influenced by the density of the soil and the frequency of vibration, where it rises as the frequency of vibration increases and declines as the soil density rises. It was also found that increasing skirt length increases the percentage decrease of the settlement. Importantly, the results obtained from the analyses have been utilized to derive new dynamic impedance values that implicitly consider the presence of skirts. Finally, novel design equations of dynamic impedance that implicitly account to the effect of the skirts have been derived and validated utilizing a new intelligent data driven method. These new equations can be used in future designs of skirted strip foundations subjected to machine vibration.

In this paper, we present our method to reduce vibration of the base plate of a refrigerator by avoiding resonance between base plate and compressor operation. To verify the modes of the base plate, FE models of the base plate with free-free condition and applied boundary condition were built and validated by results from experimental modal analysis. Operating Deflection Shape analysis was applied to find the sensitive area on the base plate during compressor operation. In optimization process, Finite Difference Method - based sensitivity analysis is used to detect the most sensitive area. Finally, based on this numerical result, we will make beads on the base plate to reduce vibration of refrigerator.
Rubber mounts so called grommets and pipes are two major paths of vibration transmission from a compressor, an important vibration source in an air conditioner, to the whole unit. A procedure of configuring the suction and discharge pipes of the compressor was developed in this paper so as to reduce the vibration transmission through the pipes as well as the grommets. Through investigating the effects of shapes and connecting disrections of pipe elements on vibration transmission, a guideline to configure the pipe layout, which enables to reduce vibration transmission, was proposed. The initial pipe layout by the guideline was optimized with the objective function, minimization of boty vibration transmission and the cost, and with the constraints to yield the final dimensions of the pipes. The procedure not only minimizes the transmitted force to the circumferential devices but enables to eliminate rubber blocks or dampers, which are generally used to avoid resonances of the pipe system.

The vibration that occurs when starting the agricultural tractor is raised more than double compared to the general situation. In this case, impulsive vibration make the machine's life to be shortened, which can cause a driver's physical problems also. Therefore, in this paper, we have taken an effective way to reduce the impulsive vibration that occurs when starting a agricultural tractor. As a result, we confirmed that appling the anti-vibration pads and the high stiffness engine mounts is effective method to reduce the impulsive vibration.
