  • With increasing interest in the reduction of cost for operation and maintenance of overhead catenary system, various methods of condition monitoring have been developed. In this paper, we proposed network-based telemetry system for condition monitoring in railway and acquired data from any kind of sensor in catenary line and structure at high voltage. This development gives the solution for online condition monitoring in railway. To check the validity of our approach in terms of application, we realized network-based telemetry System.

  • A gauge-adjustable system can be used for the fast and safe transportation in the railways with different gauges instead of transshipment or bogie-changing. The system will be necessary to connect the trans-Korean railway with the transcontinental railway effectively. In this paper, the technical requirements for the gauge-adjustable system used for the north-east asia network were studied and the conceptual design of the system was performed. For the purpose, the specification was made and the QFD and TRIZ methods are used.

  • This study is about developing a transit assignment model on railway network. Current transit assignment models are mainly focused on road or urban transportation so that these models, for example, transit assignment model based on optimal strategy generates unrealistic transit assignment. Especially, since the advent of KTX, more passengers are using the transfer route containing KTX but most transit assignment models have a shortcoming that transfer is not considered or is overestimated. We present a new stochastic transit assignment model based on LOGIT considering transfer resistance.

  • This paper is described that advanced study on network design of remote diagnosis system for power facilities of electric railway. In the field, it is very difficult for worker to diagnosis power facilities including catenary because workers should be maintenance on AC power supply. Therefore, to properly design on remote diagnosis system, we have searched the inside and outside of the country-related technology trends. Also we confirmed that required technologies to design interface technology required for the development of sensor devices and the USN network was designed in accordance with required skills. Throughout variety of requirements, we have development iRFS based ZA sensors and iRFM to receive data of sensor. Also CC2420 is applied as single-chip which used 2.4GHz IEEE802.15.4 compliant RF tranciver designed for low-power and low-voltage wireless applications for ZigBee communication.

  • There have been significant changes in the Korean railway environment in recent years. First, as the railway restructuring plan, Korea Rail Network Authority and KORAIL were established and commenced their works. Secondly, the opening of the high speed railway has provided a chance of reorganization in the whole operation system of the Korean railway network. These new changed environments require an alternative plan to examine the management system of deficit lines and their stations. This paper is intended to approach to clearly define the concept of deficit rail stations and lines in order to make a contribution to establish a comprehensive rationalization plan in the management environment of railroad. The study proposes some method to categorize their deficit stations and lines by three ways.

  • Active application of auger-drilled piling is expected in Korea considering its advantage in noise and vibration problems against driven piling and its cost-effectiveness in comparison to the cast in-situ piling. The current design practice being used in Korea is adopted from the Japanese one, however the equipment and construction procedure is modified for the geotechnical conditions and construction circumstances in Korea. Therefore there is an urgent need for the establishment of the rational design criteria for the auger-drilled piling in Korea. As the preliminary work for the establishment, this paper presents the current practice in Korean railway constructions. Design criteria of Korea Railway Network Authority are introduced and its characteristics and the problems are described. Application cases of auger-drilled pile to railway construction are introduced as well.

  • The overall objectives for Korean railway system of the future are speedup, capacity management, increase safety, environmental protection. and enhancement efficiency. To achieve these, interconnection within the railway system must be optimised and designed on a customer-friendly basis. This principles applies to both passenger and freight traffic. for which cost-effective and time-efficient facilities must be provided. As the result. Korean railway network modernization is based on seeking out optimum conditions for improving railway business.

  • Now operating lines of many urban railway are currently in progress in the Seoul, but the inadequate consideration of links between different lines could create inconvenience as the public transport. This paper is studied about the connection service design of urban-railway convinced for other metropolis railways forms and propose the base pilot plan of the railway network linking system in Seoul Metropolis.
