  • A basic assumption in standard applications of control charts is that the observations are statistically independent. However, this assumption is often violated from processes in many industries. The presence of autocorrelation has a serious impact on the performance of control charts, causing a dramatic increase in the frequency of false alarms. This paper considers a process in which the observations can be modeled as a first order autoregressive(AR(1)) process, and develops (equation omitted) charts with the variable sample size(VSS) scheme for monitoring the mean of this process.

  • This paper is concerned with the design of two residual control charts for real-time monitoring of the continuous flow processes. Two different control charts are designed under the situation that observations are correlated each other. Kalman-Filter based model estimation is employed when the process model is known. A black-box approach, based on Back-Propagation Neural Network, is also applied for the design of control chart when there is no prior information of process model. Performance of the designed control charts and traditional control charts is evaluated. Average run length(ARL) is adopted as a criterion for comparison. Experimental results show that the designed control chart using the Neural Network's modeling has shorter ARL than that of the other control charts when process mean is shifted. This means that the designed control chart detects the out-of-control state of the process faster than the others. The designed control chart using the Kalman-Filter based model estimation also has better performance than traditional control chart when process is out-of-control state.

  • This research explores the application of the bootstrap methods to the construction of control limits for the x charts and the EWMA charts based on single observations with stationary autoregressive processes. The subsample means-based control chars in the presence autocorrelation are also considered. We use a technique for inferring confidence intervals using bootstrap, the percentile method. Simulation studies are conducted to compare the performance of the bootstrap method and that of standard method for constructing control charts under several conditions.

  • Shewhart-type control charts have historically been used for attribute data, though they have ARL biased property and even are unable to detect the improvement of a process with some process parameters. So far most efforts have been made to improve the performance of attribute control charts in terms of faster detection of special causes without increasing the rates of false alarm. In this paper, control limits are proposed that yield an ARL (nearly) unbiased chart for attributes. Optimal design is also proposed for attribute control charts under a natural sense of criterion.

  • CUSUM control charts are widely used to monitor processes with small shifts. CUSUM control charts, however, are less effective in detecting for recurring cycles or frequent small shifts in the process. With Shewhart control charts, we have applied the variety of run rules to check the stability of process in addition to the situations that some points fall outside the control limits. In this paper, we propose the Z-CUSUM control chart for monitoring the process with recurring cycles or frequent small shifts by use of the zone concept as like the Shewhart control charts.

  • This article investigates economic-statistical design of VSI(variable samling interval) charts considering Various Runs Rules. Most recent adaptive control charts are conplex designs. Actually It's not easy to operating control quality process. We propose a procedure for designing VSI Runs charts, based on Lorenzen and Vence's model. The optimal design parameters of the charts can be determined by minimizing the cost model. And computational experiments show that the VSI Runs Rules charts is superior to the FSSI Runs Rules charts in the economic-statistical characterisitics.

  • In this paper, we propose Shewhart control chart and EWMA control chart using the autocorrelated data which are common in chemical and process industries and lead to increase the number of false alarms when conventional control charts are applied. The effect of autocorrelated data is modeled as a autoregressive process, and canonical analysis is used to reduce the dimensionality of the data set and find the canonical variables that explain as much of the data variation as possible. Charting statistics are constructed based on the residual vectors from the canonical variables which are uncorrelated over time, and the control charts for these statistics can attenuate the autocorrelation in the process data. The charting procedures are illustrated with a numerical example and simulation is conducted to investigate the performances of the proposed control charts.

  • Control chart is most widely used in SPC(Statistical Process Control), Recently it is a critical issue that the standard control chart is not suitable to non-normal process with very small percent defective. Especially, this problem causes serious errors in the reliability procurement, such as semiconductor, high-precision machining and chemical process etc. Procuring process control technique for non-normal process with very small percent defective and perturbation is becoming urgent. Control chart technique in non-normal distribution become very important issue. In this paper, we investigate on research trend of control charts under non-normal distribution.

  • This study is concerned with design of EWMA control charts for counted data. Control charts for the fraction defective and the number of defects are designed. Performance analysis is accomplished for validity of the designed EWMA control charts. Average run length(ARL) is adopted as a criterion for comparison. Simulation results show that the designed EWMA control charts have shorter ARL than pn, p and c control charts when the fraction nonconforming or the average defect number are shifted. This means that the designed control charts can detect the out of -control state of the process more fastly than the traditional control charts.

  • In this paper, we present an effective method for process control using the Demerit-EWMA control chart in the process where nonconforming units or nonconformities are occurred by various types. We compare performance of Demerit control chart, Demerit-CUSUM control chart and Demerit-EWMA control chart based on the average run length.
