  • Chinese brake fern (Pteris vittata) has potential for application in the phytoremediation of arsenic introduced by lead arsenate-based pesticides. In this study, Chinese brake ferns were used to extract arsenic, mainly in field and greenhouse experiments, and to assess the performance of simultaneous phytoaccumulation of arsenic and lead from homogenized soil in the greenhouse, with the application of EDTA and electric potential. The ferns have been shown to be effective in accumulating high concentrations of arsenic, and extracting both arsenic and lead from the contaminated soil, with the addition of a chelating agent, EDTA. The maximum increase in lead accumulation in the ferns was 9.2 fold, with a 10 mmol/kg addition of EDTA. In addition, the application of EDTA in combination with electric potential increased the lead accumulation in ferns by 10.6 fold at 5 mmol/kg of EDTA and 40 V (dc), compared to controls. Therefore, under application of EDTA and electric potential, Chinese brake fern is able to extract arsenic and lead simultaneously from soil contaminated by lead arsenate.

  • In this paper some of optical current transformers and optical potential transformers for extra high voltage system are introduced. The optical current transformer and optical potential transformer will be adopted in the near future, because of increasing demands of high accuracy and good reliability of current transformer and potential transformer. The application cases of optical current transformers and optical potential transformers are also introduced.

  • Previous studies have addressed the management of phyllosphere pathogens by leaf and root-associated microbes. The present study evaluated the effect of the foliar application of three strains of Bacillus spp. on plant growth and fruit quality. The application of a bacilli spore preparation significantly improved leaf growth parameters such as leaf thickness and photosynthesis capacity, indicating that bacilli treatment directly promoted leaf growth. In addition, foliar treatment resulted in an improvement in the key indicators of fruit quality including water, glucose, and sucrose contents. The present results suggest that foliar spraying of beneficial bacilli is a potential treatment of wide application for the improvement of apple quality. Foliar application of bacilli preparation as effective plant growth-promoting rhizobacteria broadens the spectrum of their availability for orchard application.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the analgesic effect of eugenol, capsaicin and demethoxy-NE. Young adult cats, weighing 2.0 to 3.0kg, were used. Each animal was anesthetized (${\alpha}$-chloralose 60mg per kg body weight) and divided into four groups; control, eugenol, capsaicin and demethoxy-NE group. The anterior digastric muscles were exposed and a pair of electrodes was inserted to record the electromyograms. To expose the pulp, each canine teeth was prepared with a low speed bur under cooling and used for recording anterior digastric muscular EMGs evoked by noxious stimulation of dental pulp. To observe effects on jaw opening reflex, inferior alveolar nerve of both sides were exposed for drug application and wire electrodes were inserted in anterior digstric muscle for recording the EMGs. To observe effects on action potential, saphenous nerves of both sides were exposed and three tissue pools were made from surrounding tissue. The most distal pool was used for applying stimulation, the most proximal one for recording of action potential, and the other one for drug application. One side of inferior alveolar nerve and saphenous nerve were used for eugenol, capsaicin, or demethoxy-NE application, the other side of nerve for control experiments(only vehicle application). Anterior digastric muscular EMGs evoked by noxious stimulation of dental pulp were recorded before drug application, immediate after drug application, at 60 and 120 minutes, and 5 days after drug application. Action potentials were recorded before drug application, immediate after 30 minutes drug application, at 30, 60 and 120 minutes after drug had been washed out. The results were as follows; 1. Eugenol had a continuous blocking effect on the anterior digastric muscular EMGs evoked by noxious pulp stimulation and after 5 days, showed completely blocking effect. 2. After 5 days, demethoxy-NE applied to dental pulp had a considerable blocking effect on the jaw opening retlex evoked by noxious stimulation but capsaicin had no significant effect. 3. After 5 days, eugenol group showed the strongest blocking effect among the all experimental groups on the jaw opening reflex evoked by noxious stimulation of dental pulp and capsaicin group showed the weakest blocking effect. 4. Eugenol had a completely blocking effect on the action potential conductivity of peripheral nerve. Capsaicin and demethoxy-NE had the blocking effect on the action potential conductivity of ${\alpha}$-and C-nerve fibers. 5. Capsaicin, demethoxy-NE and eugenol applied to inferior alveolar nerve surppressed the jaw opening reflex evoked by noxious stimulation of dental pulp.

  • A direct application of the WKB quantization to the three-dimensional Coulomb potential does not yield the exact eigenenergies. The three-dimensional Coulomb potential is converted to a Morse potential by using the point canonical transformation. Then the WKB quantization is applied to the Morse potential to find a relationship between the eigenenergies of the Coulomb and those of the Morse potentials. From the relationship the exact eigenenergis of the Coulomb potential are determined. The same method is found to be also valid for the three-dimensional harmonic oscillator potential. And the Langer modified WKB quantization is algebraically derived.

  • Android's inter-application access enriches its application ecosystem. However, it exposes security vulnerabilities where end-user data can be exploited by attackers. While existing techniques have focused on minimizing the risks of inter-application access, they either suffer from inaccurate risk detection or are primarily available to expert users. This paper introduces a novel technique that automatically analyzes potential risks between a set of applications, aids end-users to effectively assess the identified risks by crowdsourcing assessments, and generates an access control policy which prevents unsafe inter-application access at runtime. Our evaluation demonstrated that our technique identifies potential risks between real-world applications with perfect accuracy, supports a scalable analysis on a large number of applications, and successfully aids end-users' risk assessments.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study is to provide information on building's energy consumption and efficiency for general building users through a mobile application. Method: This paper presents a mobile application process and building energy assessment models for general users to understand easily. There are two assessment models, one is based on the energy consumption. The other is based on the architectural planning factors of a building. The assessment models are proposed to understand buildings' energy efficiency and to compare the energy consumption level for general users. The applicability of proposed application has been evaluated by conducting a case study. The case study is targeting university buildings. Result: Energy efficiency potentials were proposed using weighting factor which was calculated by the impact on energy consumption of a building according to parameters. The mobile application used the simple energy assessment model by energy efficiency potentials and was developed for a smartphone By using the mobile application, numerous general users of smartphones can easily and conveniently access information pertaining to buildings, energy consumption, and reductions in energy consumption. The proposed application enables user to find more energy efficient buildings by comparing energy status and energy efficiency potential by given information.

  • PLGA was suggested. Under various conditions, their diameters and porosity as well as mechanical strength were evaluated. In addition to those, cell(chondrocyte) proliferation and formation of extracelluar matrices were also investigated along with the conventional membrane type PLGA scaffolds for the potential use in tissue engineering. As conclusions, this type of scaffold showed a potential of application to tissue engineering in view of mechanical stability as well as cellular responses.
