This paper presents an explicit pole-assignment adaptive servocontrol shceme and its application to cutting force regulation for feedrate maximization. The controller structure of the suggested adaptive control scheme is based on robust control theory. This controller structure is then combined with an on-line model estimation algorithm. The whole scheme is applied to a milling process control. The results of real time cutting experimental studies show that the asymptotic regulation of milling peak cutting forces can be achieved with robust- ness against the time varying perturbations to the process model parameters, which are caused by nonlinear cutting dynamics.

MIESF(Modified Integral Error and State Feedback) controller suggested in order to control the processes with time delay is the control scheme that combines Smith predictor and IESF(Integral Error and State Feedback). This control scheme has better performance than the conventional PID controller incorporating Smith predictor with respect to the robustness and control performance for the modelling error. MIESF controller can be simply designed by pole assignment algorithm. BUT in such a case, it is difficult to find proper poles which gurantee robustness with respect to process parameter uncertainties. In order to solve the aforementioned difficulties, we suggest a new design method for MIESF controller and show the validity of the proposed design method.
In this paper, a new procedure for selecting weighting matrices in linear discrete time quadratic optimal control problems (LQ-problem) is proposed. In LQ problems, the quadratic weighting matrices are usually decided on trial and error in order to get a good response. But using the proposed method, the quadratic weights are decided in such a way that all poles of the closed loop system are located in a desired area for good responses as well as for stability and values of the quadratic cost functional are kept less then a specified value. The closed loop systems constructed by this method have merits of LQ problems as well as those of pole assignment problems. Taking into consideration that little is known about the relationship among the quadratic weights, the poles and the values of cost functional, this procedure is also interesting from the theoretical point of view.

In this paper, we consider the robustness analysis problem in state space models with linear time invariant perturbations. Based upon the discrete-time Lyapunov approach, sufficient conditions are derived for the eigenvalues of perturbed matrix to be located in a circle, and robustness bounds on perturbations are obtained. Spaecially, for the case of a diagonalizable hermitian matrix the bound is given in terms of the nominal matrix without the solution of Lyapunov equation. This robustness analysis takes account not only of stability robustness but also of certain types of performance robustness. For two perturbation classes resulting bounds are shown to be improved over the existing ones. Examples given include comparison of the proposed analysis method with existing one.
In this paper, we are going to study the stabilization of the semilinear heat equation with inhomogenous boundary conditions, whose solutions are not (in general) stable. Here, we use the discrete-time feedback inputs through the boundary of geometric domain to the semilinear system under some additional conditions and assumptions. It is shown that under these conditions, the stabilization can be realized by applying pole assignment argument to the principal linear part of the system and that the solutions exist globally in discrete-time t without any finite escape time.
The paper presents a method of constructing simple fuzzy control rules for the determination of stabilizing signals of automatic voltage regulator and governor, which are controllers of electric power systems. Fuzzy control rules are simplified by considering a coordinate transformation with the rotation angle .theta. on the phase plane, and by expanding the range of membership functions. Also, two rotation angles .theta. $_{1}$ and .theta. $_{2}$ are selected for the linearizable region and the nonlinear one of the system, respectively. Here, .theta. $_{1}$ is chosen by the pole assignment method, and .theta. $_{2}$ by a performance index. Fuzzy inference is applied to the connection of two rotation angles .theta. $_{1}$ and .theta. $_{1}$ by regarding the distance from the desired equilibrium point as a variable of condition parts. The control effect is demonstrated by an application of the proposed method to one-machine infinite-bus power system.
Distillation columns are widely used in almost every chemical plant. The use of multivariable control for such units is attractive because of the strong interactions exhibited between outputs and inputs and the desire to control simultaneously both top and bottom products. In this research design of a robust multivariable controller for distillation column was considered; output feedback controller with proportional and integral modes was designed using pole assignment. The transfer function matrix was obtained by fitting the step response realtions between single input double output pairs of variables. This matrix was then converted to linear time invariant state space model by multivariable realization technique. With the proposed multivariable proportional and integral controller applied to the process, the result of the digital computer simulation showed a good performance of asymtotic tracking. The limited experimental performance of this multivariable control was compared with the result from simulation. It was found that the proposed controller performed satisfactorily for the distillation column which separated binary mixture of methanol and water.
In the two-mass motor drive system driving a load through a flexible shaft or transmission system, a shaft torsional vibration is often generated. The overshoot of the motor drive system easily causes vibration. In this case I-PD controller has been generally used in speed control, because of the simplicity of structure. This paper using an analytical pole assignment design, proposes the overshoot formulas, and the settling time formula. The objective of this paper is to provide a design method of I-PD controller by using overshoot formulas, and settling time formula. The simulation results show that we can design the controller with desired overshoot and settling time.
In this paper, a control system design method is proposed for DC motor drive. A state space model is used to control sysytem and for closed loop system the technique of pole assignment is applied. The control system is designed with state feedback theory and to improve the response further more feedforward theory is applied to control system. The microprocessor as a controller and the interfaces in the system are proposed. Digital simulation results for step changes in reference velocity and load torque are shown.

A construction method of a switching hyperplane for the Variable Structure Systems, which have robustness for parameter variations and noises in sliding mode is presented. The problem of composing a switching hyperplane is considered as a special case of the pole assignment for a closed-loop system. It is shown that the condition for constructing arbitrarily a switching hyperplane matrix C is equivalent to the controllability of the pair matrix(A, B) for the system, and then an algorithm of obtaining the switching hyperplane is proposed. It is also proved that zeros of the system are invariable in the sliding mode, and the stability for the system dynamic is equivalent to the stability of PA $\textit{ker}$ C. The applicability of the method proposed in the paper is shown by the simulation results for an example system.
