2/65/35 PLZT stock solution prepared by Sol-Gel processing was spin-coated on ITO coated glass and annealed by RTA(Rapid Thermal Annealing). The crystal structure of films was reported based on the observation of crystallization process and microstructure of the film fabricated at different fabrication condition. Films were crystallized into rhombohedral structure by annealing at $750^{\circ}C$ for 5 min. As the annealing temperature increased, the size of rosette structure of the films was grown up from $2.4{\mu}m$ to $15{\mu}m$, dielectric constant was increased, coercive field was decreased 33.82 kV/cm, remnant polarization was increased to 39.84 ${\mu}C/cm^2$ and Optical transmittance was decreased.

In order to improve corrosion resistance for cast stainless steel in seawater, the characteristics of corrosion resistance after plasma ion nitriding was investigated. Plasma ion nitriding process was conducted in a mixture of nitrogen of 25% and hydrogen of 75% at substrate temperature ranging from 350 to $500^{\circ}C$ for 10 hours using pulsed-DC glow discharge plasma with working pressure of 250 Pa in vacuum condition. Corrosion tests were carried out for as-received and plasma ion nitrided specimens. The corrosion characteristics were investigated by measurement of weight loss and observation of surface morphology. In anodic polarization experiment, relatively less damage depth and weight loss were presented at a nitrided temperature of $400^{\circ}C$, attributing to the formation of S-phase.

Ferroelectric material properties are strongly governed by domain structures and their evolution processes, but the evolution processes of complex domain patterns during a macroscopic electrical poling process are still elusive. In the present work, domain-evolution processes in a PZT ceramic near the morphotropic phase-boundary composition were studied during a step-wise electrical poling using piezoresponse force microscopy (PFM). Electron backscatter diffraction was used with the PFM data to identify the grain boundaries in the region of interest. In response to an externally the applied electric field, growth and retreat of non-$180^{\circ}$ domain boundaries wasere observed. The results indicate that ferroelectric polarization-switching nucleates and evolves in concordance with the pattern of the pre-existing domains.

The effect of nitrogen on the electrochemical corrosion and nanomechanical behaviors of martensitic stainless steel was examined using potentiodynamic polarization and nanoindentation test methods. The results indicate that partial replacement of carbon with nitrogen effectively improved the passivation and pitting corrosion resistance of conventional high-carbon and high- chromium martensitic steels. Post-test observation of the samples after a potentiodynamic test revealed a severe pitting attacks in conventional martensitic steel compared with nitrogen- containing martensitic stainless steel. This was shown to be due to (i) microstructural refinement results in retaining a high-chromium content in the matrix, and (ii) the presence of reversed austenite formed during the tempering process. Since nitrogen addition also resulted in the formation of a $Cr_2N$ phase as a process of secondary hardening, the hardness of the nitrogen- containing steel is slightly higher than the conventional martensitic stainless steel under tempered conditions, even though the carbon content is lowered. The added nitrogen also improved the wear resistance of the steel as the critical load (Lc2) is less, along with a lower scratch friction coefficient (SFC) when compared to conventional martensitic stainless steel such as AISI 440C.

Erosion-corrosion behaviors of Hadfield steel under a neutral aqueous environment with fine SiO2 particles were examined and compared with those of conventional carbon steel. A range of electrochemical experiments (potentiodynamic polarization, linear polarization, and impedance), immersion test, and slurry pot test (i.e., erosion-corrosion test) were performed. Results showed that the Hadfield steel composed of austenitic matrix with (Fe,Mn)-based carbide had lower corrosion potential and higher corrosion current density than carbon steel with a typical ferrite/pearlite structure. In addition, pipe forming increased total corrosion rates (i.e., pure corrosion and erosion-enhanced corrosion rates). Nevertheless, the erosion-corrosion rate of Hadfield steel was much smaller. Morphological observation showed that local damage in the form of a crater by erosion-corrosion was more noticeable in carbon steel. The higher resistance of Hadfield steel to erosion-corrosion was attributed to its lower total erosion rates (i.e., pure erosion and corrosion-enhanced erosion rates) highly depending on surface hardness. This study suggests that Hadfield steel with higher resistances to flowing erosion-corrosion in an aqueous environment can be applied widely to various industrial fields.

The methyl 2-(1,3-dithietan -2- ylidene)-3-oxobutanoate (MDYO) and 2-(1,3-dithietan-2-ylidene) cyclohexane -1,3-dione (DYCD) were synthesized and tested at various concentrations as corrosion inhibitors for 316L stainless steel in 1 M HCl using weight loss, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), potentiodynamic polarization (PDP), surface analysis techniques (SEM / EDX and Raman spectroscopy) and Functional Density Theory (DFT) was also used to calculate quantum parameters. The obtained results indicated that the inhibition efficiency of MDYO and DYCD increases with their concentration, and the highest value of corrosion inhibition efficiency was determined in the range of concentrations investigated (0.01 × 10-3 - 10-3 M). Polarization curves (Tafel extrapolation) showed that both compounds act as mixed-type inhibitors in 1M HCl solutions. Electrochemical impedance spectra (Nyquist plots) are characterized by a capacitive loop observed at high frequencies, and another small inductive loop near low frequencies. The thermodynamic data of adsorption of the two compounds on the stainless steel surface and the activation energies were determined and then discussed. Analysis of experimental results shows that MDYO and DYCD inhibitors adsorb to the metal surface according to the Langmuir model and the mechanism of adsorption of both inhibitors involves physisorption. SEM-EDX results confirm the existence of an inhibitor protective film on the stainless steel surface. The results derived from theoretical calculations supported the experimental observation.
The polarization degree as a function of phase angle (the Sun-target-observer's angle), so-called the polarimetric phase curves (PPC), have provided priceless information on asteroids' albedos since B. Lyot (1929). Succeeding experimental works in 1970s have confirmed the Umow law: There is a universal and strong correlation between the albedo and the PPC slope (slope of the tangential line at the zero of the PPC at phase angle ~ 20 degrees). Experiments in 1990s (ref [1]), on the other hand, have demonstrated that the negative branch of PPC is dependent on the size parameter (X ~ π * particle-size / wavelength), especially when X <~5. The change in particle size changed the minimum polarization degree, location of the minimum, and the width of the negative branch (called the inversion angle). From polarimetry[2] and spectroscopy[3], large asteroids are expected to be covered with fine (<~ 10 ㎛ size) particles due to the gravity. The size parameters are X ~ 30 at the optical wavelength (λ ~ 0.5 ㎛) and X ~ 10 in near-infrared (J, H, Ks bands; λ ~ 1.2-2.2 ㎛), if the representative particle size of 5 ㎛ is considered. Accordingly, the near-infrared polarimetry has a great potential to validate the idea in ref[1]. We conducted near-infrared photopolarimetry of the large asteroid (4) Vesta using the Nishiharima Infrared Camera (NIC) at Nishi-Harima Astronomical Observatory (NHAO). NIC allows simultaneous polarimetric measurements in J, H, and Ks bands, and thus the change of PPC is obtained for three different size parameters. As a result, we found a signature of the change in the negative branch in the PPC of asteroid (4) Vesta. We will introduce our observation and the results and give an interpretation of the regolith on Vesta.
In this study, we developed an impedance sensor capable of controlling electrode polarization by coating iridium oxide (IrOx) on the surface of the screen-printed carbon electrode. IrOx was deposited on the surface of carbon electrodes according to the number of cycles (0~50 cycles) by cyclic voltammetry. Observation of scanning electron microscope images revealed that the size and number of IrOx particles increased as the number of cycles increased. The changes in impedance responses as a function of the NaCl concentration of the as-obtained sensors were investigated using electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. The sensors manufactured in 50 cycles exhibited the best coefficient of determination and reproducibility, attributed to the well-controlled electrode polarization. We further demonstrated the usefulness of the IrOx-based sensor as a diagnosis sensor for dry eye syndrome by comparing the results of the commercially available osmometer and our sensor using actual solution samples.

This study was carried out with solution temperature variables of $75^{\circ}C$ and $90^{\circ}C$ for STS 304, which is a nuclear equipment material, in order to determine the corrosion damage behavior in chemical decontamination process using permanganic acid and oxalic acid. Then electrochemical polarization experiment, weight loss measurement, surface morphology observation and surface damage depth were measured every cycle of the decontamination process to analyze the degree of corrosion damage. As a result, the corrosion current density, weight loss, and surface damage increased as the decontamination process cycle increased, and the corrosion damage of STS 304 tended to increase. Few ${\mu}m$ pitting damage was observed on the surface observation. In 5 cycle, the elongated wormhole-type pitting damage appeared, leading to relatively large surface damage. However, there was no significant difference in the degree of surface damage resulting from the increase in the temperature of the chemical decontamination solution.
BITSE is a project of balloon-borne experiments for a next-generation solar coronagraph developed by a collaboration with KASI and NASA. The coronagraph is built to observe the linearly polarized brightness of solar corona with a polarization camera, a filter wheel, and an aperture door. For the observation, the coronagraph is supported by the power distribution unit (PDU), a pointing system WASP (Wallops Arc-Second Pointer), telemetry & telecommand system SIP (Support Instrument Package) which are developed at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center, Wallops Flight Facility, and Columbia Scientific Balloon Facility. The BITSE Command and Data Handling (C&DH) system used a cost-off-the-shelf electronics to process all data sent and received by the coronagraph, including the support system operation by RS232/422, USB3, Ethernet, and digital and analog signals. The flight software is developed using the core Flight System (cFS) which is a reusable software framework and set of reusable software applications which take advantage of a rich heritage of successful space mission of NASA. The flight software can process encoding and decoding data, control the subsystems, and provide observation autonomy. We developed a python-based testing framework to improve software reliability. The flight software development is one of the crucial contributions of KASI and an important milestone for the next project which is developing a solar coronagraph to be installed at International Space Station.
