  • A novel 3D shape optimization algorithm is presented for electromagnetic devices carry-ing eddy current. The algorithm integrates the 3D finite element performance analysis and the steepest descent method with design sensitivity and mesh relocation method. For the design sensitivity formula, the adjoint variable vector is defined in complex form based on the 3D finite element method for eddy current problems. A new 3D mesh relocation method is also proposed using the deformation theory of the elastic body under stress to renew the mesh as the shape changes. The design sensitivity f3r the sur-face nodal points is also systematically converted into that for the design variables for the parameterized optimization application. The proposed algorithm is applied to the optimum design of the tank shield model of the transformer and the effectiveness is proved.

  • Sensitivity and specificity are the two most important indicators in selection of medical imaging devices for cancer screening. Breast images taken by conventional or digital mammography, ultrasound, MRI and optical mammography were collected from 2,143,852 patients. They were then studied and compared for sensitivity and specificity results. Optical mammography had the highest sensitivity (p<0.001 and p<0.006) except with MRI. Digital mammography had the highest specificity for breast cancer imaging. A comparison of specificity between digital mammography and optical mammography was significant (p<0.021). If two or more breast diagnostic imaging tests are requested the overall sensitivity and specificity will increase. In this literature review study patients at high-risk of breast cancer were studied beside normal or sensitive women. The image modality performance of each breast test was compared for each.

  • Indium tin oxide (ITO) films with a 5 nm thick Au interlayer were prepared on glass substrates. The effects of the Au interlayer on the gas sensitivity for detecting methanol vapors were investigated at room temperature. The conductivity of the film sensor increased upon exposure to methanol vapor and the sensitivity also increased proportionally with the methanol vapor concentration. In terms of the sensitivity measurements, the ITO film sensor with an Au interlayer shows a higher sensitivity than that of the conventional ITO film sensor. This approach is promising in gaining improvement in the performance of ITO gas sensors used for the detection of methanol vapor at room temperature.

  • A new reliability calculation method is proposed based on design sensitivity analysis by the finite element method for nonlinear performance constraints in the optimal design of electromagnetic devices. In the proposed method, the reliability of a given design is calculated by using the Monte Carlo simulation (MCS) method after approximating a constraint function to a linear one in the confidence interval with the help of its sensitivity information. The validity and numerical efficiency of the proposed sensitivity-assisted MCS method are investigated by comparing its numerical results with those obtained by using the conventional MCS method and the first-order reliability method for analytic functions and the TEAM Workshop Problem 22.

  • Spinning mechanism is generally used in coasting process on grass plates. Rebounding PR(Photo Resist) which leads to occur inferiority of coating process is caused by vibrational energy of whole coating system. In this study, the sensitivity analysis is performed to analyze and reduce vibrational terms in the spin coating system. The sensitivity analysis is bared on the numerical expression of this system. By the bond graph method. power flow of each system is represented by some basic bond graph elements. Any energy domain system is modeled using the unified elements. The modelled spin coater system is verified with power spectrum data measured by FFT analyzer. As the results of verifying model parameters and sensitivity analysis, principal factors causing vibration phenomenon are mentioned. A study on vibration method in the spin coating system is discussed.

  • The ECO2 building energy simulation program is used on the assessment project for building energy certification of non-dwelling buildings in Korea. In the design of energy efficient buildings, it is beneficial to identify the most important design parameters in oder to more efficiently develop alternative design solutions or reach optimized design solutions. The sensitivity analyses will be used at a reasonable early stage of the building design process, where it is still possible to influence the most important design parameters. In this study, the sensitivity analysis is focused on building envelope parameters such as U-values, SHGC and Wall-window ration.

  • In a hierarchical-bus multiprocessor system, cache coherence protocol has effect on system performance. Under a particular cache coherence protocol, system performance can be affected by bus bandwidth, memory size, and memory block size. Therefore sensitivity analysis is necessary for the part of multiprocessor system. In this paper, we set up cache coherence protocol for hierarchical-bus multiprocessor system, and compute probability of state of protocol, and analyze sensitivity for part of system by simulation.

  • This paper describes the development process of steering system for reduce idle vibration through the data level of frequency and sensitivity. High stiffness and light weight vehicle is a major target in the refinement of passenger cars to meet customers' contradictable requirements between NVH performance and fuel economy. The target frequency of the steering system is set by benchmarking of a competitive vehicle and the vibration mode map is used to separate steering column modes from resonance of body structure and engine idle rpm. This paper descirbes the analysis approach process for high stiffness of steering system and the design guideline is suggested about steering column and support system by using mother car at initial design stage. We used a patent map in order to analyze accurately a technical trend and suggested the design process using dynamic damper of steering system considering sensitivity. And we established techniques of analysis on steering system and evaluated the level of accuracy of analysis through correlating the test and analysis results. It makes possible to design the good NVH performance vehicle at initial design stage and save vehicles to be used in tests. These improvements can lead to shortening the time needed to develop better vehicles.

  • This paper describes the outcome of the design of a 200 kW class micro gas turbine and the sensitivity of its performance (efficiency and power) to the variations in major design parameters. The reference design parameters were set up based on the best available component technologies. The resulting net electricity generation efficiency of the micro gas turbine package was found to be competitive to those of other systems in the market. The sensitivities of power and efficiency to the variations in compressor and turbine efficiencies, pressure ratio, turbine inlet temperature, recuperator effectiveness, secondary air ratio, pressure loss ratios of both the cold and hot sides of the recuperator were estimated. Based on the sensitivity data, a simplified method to predict the variation in system performance responding to the combinations of small changes in all design parameters were set up and validated.

  • An extension of TOPMODEL was developed for rainfall-runoff simulation in agricultural watersheds equipped with tile drains. Tile drain functions are incorporated into the framework of TOPMODEL. Nine possible flow generation scenarios are suggested for tile drained watershed and applied in the modeling procedure. In the model development process, the traditional physically based storage approach and a new approach using a transfer function for the simulation of the flow in the unsaturated zone were compared. In order to provide better insight into the simulation process, a regionalized sensitivity analysis was performed to test the performance of the model and to compare the behavior of the transfer function to that of the simple storage related formulation. The results of analysis show good performance of the transfer function approach. Since the rainfall-runoff response pattern tends to vary seasonally, seven events distributed throughout a year were used in the sensitivity analysis to investigate the seasonal variation of the hydrologic characteristics. It is found that the sensitivity of each parameter described by the model are varied seasonally.
