The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of mothers' parental intelligence on children's peer play interaction and peer acceptance. The participants were 197 fiveyear- old children and their mothers of six kindergartens and child care centers in Seoul and Gyeonggi province. The Penn Interactive Peer Play Scale(Choi & Shin, 2008), the Peer Rating Scale(Asher et al., 1979), and the Parental Intelligence Scale(Hyon, 2004) were used as measurements. The results of this study were as follows. Firstly, the higher scores in mothers' parental intelligence of encouragement, enhancement, rational authoritativeness, acceptance, control, and avoiding rejection roles, the more the children's positive behaviors were exhibited during the peer play. Secondly, children whose mothers provided higher levels in parental intelligence of empathy, encouragement, rational authoritativeness and enhancement roles were rated as displaying higher levels of children's peer acceptance. On the other hand, children whose mothers expressed higher parental intelligence level of the rejection role tended to have lower levels of peer acceptance.
Objective: The purpose of this study was to explore the pathway from mothers' overprotective parenting to their child's peer play interactions mediated by internalizing problems, that is, social immaturity and withdrawal. Methods: Surveys were conducted on mothers and teachers of 341 children aged three to five. SPSS 22.0 was used to analyze the data using descriptive statistics. Structural modeling analysis was also implemented to test theoretical model using AMOS 21.0. Results: Maternal overprotective parenting, which increased social immaturity of their child, indirectly reduced the child's positive interactions with peers during play. Mothers' overprotection led to a higher level of withdrawal of their child while the effect of children's withdrawal on their peer play interaction was not significant. Because overactive parenting of mothers had no direct effect on peer play interaction, the complete mediation model representing a path from maternal overprotection to children's peer play interaction via their internalizing problems was partially supported. Conclusion/Implications: This study shows that overprotective mothers hinder their child to experience confident and mature manners, and eventually lead their child to be socially unskillful and incompetent. It was suggested to explore more individual characteristics of mothers and children to help overprotective mothers to take a step back.
Objective: The purpose of this study is to examine the mediating effect of teacher-child emotional, verbal, and behavioral interactions on the relationship between teacher playfulness and children's peer abilities. Methods: The research method used the questionnaire method to collect data on 420 children aged 3-5 years old, targeting 108 homeroom teachers working at early childhood education institutions located in Seoul and Gyeonggi area. The collected data was analyzed using the IBM SPSS 23.0 statistical program and the PROCESS macro of Hayes (2013). Results: This study confirmed that teachers' verbal, emotional, and physical interactions are closely related to young children's peer competence. In addition, it was confirmed that the teacher's playability is an important variable that affects not only the emotional, verbal, and physical interactions between the teacher and the infant, but also the peer competence of young children. Conclusion/Implications: The results of this study have significance as basic data that suggests that it is necessary to improve the playability of teachers and increase the quality level of the multifaceted aspects of teacher-infant interaction in order to support young children's peer competence.
Subjects in this study on causal relationships among playfulness, interactive peer play, teacher-child relationships, and creative characteristics were 286 3- to 5-year-old children. Instruments were the Rating Scale for Creative Characteristic of Preschoolers (Lee et al., 2002), Children's Playfulness Scale (Bemett, 1990), Penn Interactive Peer Play Scale (Fantuzzo et al., 1995), and Student Teacher Relationship Scale (Pianta, 1991). Results showed : (1) significant relationships among social spontaneous, cognitive spontaneous and children's humor in sub-areas of children's playfulness, friendliness in sub-areas of teacher-child relationships, play interaction in sub-areas of interactive peer play and creative characteristics. (2) Children's creative characteristics directly influenced social spontaneous, cognitive spontaneous and children's humor in sub-areas of children's playfulness and of play interaction in sub-areas of interactive peer play.
This study examined the interaction between children's peer experiences and familial support in relation to their psychosocial adjustment(self-esteem and lonelitness). Peer experiences were examined in terms of children's perceptions of peer acceptance and the reciprocity of best friendship. The subjects were 2754th or 5th graders residing in Seoul. It was found that the interaction between children's perceptions of peer acceptance and familial support, and that between the reciprocity of bort friendship and familial support were both significant predictors of children's loneliness whereas only the former was a significant predictor of children's self-esteem. The study results suggest that children's experiences from one type of interpersonal relationship should be examined in conjunction with their experiences in other types of relationships in order to better understand the psychosocial domains of child development.
This study aimed to investigate the influence of mother's responsive/restrictive parenting and peer attachment on academic stress in school-aged boys and girls. The participants were 493 5th, 6th graders from five elementary schools in Daegu and Gyeongbuk province. The collected data were analyzed through a t-test, multiple regression, hierarchial regression using SPSS Win 19.0. The results are as follows. (1) Level of academic stress of school-aged girls was higher than boys. (2) Responsive parenting of mothers was the most powerful explanation in academic stress of school-aged boys. However restrictive parenting of mothers was the most powerful explanation in academic stress of school-aged girls. (3) In boys, responsive parenting of mothers influenced their academic stress but peer attachment didn't influence the boys academic stress. In girls, responsive parenting of mothers and peer attachment influenced their academic stress, and interaction effects of responsive parenting of mothers and peer attachment on academic stress was observed. (4) Both boys and girls, restrictive parenting of mothers and peer attachment had influences on academic stress. And interaction effects of responsive parenting of mothers and peer attachment on academic stress was not observed.

The purpose of this study is to investigate social aspects of young EFL learners' interaction at the computer. Data were taken from the interactions of three pairs of fourth-grade primary school children who worked together on English learning software. Their interactions at the computer were videotaped and then all the talk produced by the students and the utterances emitted from the computer were transcribed. As for the analytical tools, the notion of ‘contextualization cues’ (Gumperz, 1982) and the concept of ‘positioning’ (Davies & Harre,1990) were employed. The analysis reveals that the roles of the students were not tied to a certain position, but rather dynamically changed during the course of interactive work according to the situation at hand. The dynamic changes in their positions were realized through various means; their capability in solving problems, their taking responsibility or assigning it to each other, or cooperation. There were also instances of peer teaching and motivated learning. In addition, the students showed autonomy in their learning activity. These findings suggest that both students in a dyad had their own place in performing task activities, contributing to solving problems and getting benefits from peer interaction. Furthermore, students' working together on English learning software may provide an environment which can promote cooperative attitude and responsibility for learning and enhance motivation and autonomy in their learning process.
The purpose of this study is to provide the basic data which can effectively improve young children's peer interaction behavior. For this purpose, this study examined the differences in the peer interactions of 4-year-old or 5-year-old children according to gender and age, and relationship among young children's temperament and emotion regulation, mother's emotional expressiveness, and teacher-child relationships, and then analyzed the relative influence of these variables on peer interaction behavior. The results are as follows. It appeared that boys' positive peer interaction is higher than girls'. Boys' negative peer interaction also is higher than girls'. In addition, the positive peer interaction of 5-year-old children is higher than that of 4-year-old children. As a result of examining the relative influence on peer interactions, children's emotion regulation ability is the most influential variable.
Purpose: This paper was conducted to validate the Korean version of the Peer Group Caring Interaction Scale (PGCIS-K) that measures caring behaviors as experienced by nursing students. Methods: Translation of the PGCIS-K was validated through forward-backward translation methods. Survey data were collected from 218 nursing students in a nursing school. Construct validity and criterion-related validity were evaluated. Internal consistency and the Guttman split-half coefficient were calculated to assess reliability. Results: The PGIS-K showed reliability except for 4 items (Cronbach's ${\alpha}=.91$, Guttman split-half coefficient=.85), which were low (<.30) or negatively correlated with the total scale. A 12-item reduced form of the PGCIS-K was developed by item-analysis and construct validity evidence. Factor loading for the 12 items on 2 factors ranged from .47~.82, which explained 58.4% of the total variance. Two factors were named 'modeling and assistance (Cronbach's ${\alpha}=.87$)' and 'communication and sharing (Cronbach's ${\alpha}=.82$)'. Convergent validity, discriminant validity, and criterion validity were supported according to the correlation coefficients of the 2 factors with other measure. Conclusion: The findings suggest preliminary evidence that the 12-item PGCIS-K can be used to measure nursing students' peer group caring interactions in Korea. Additional studies are recommended to continue the psychometric evaluation of this scale. Also, it can be extended to measure graduate nursing students or staff nurses' peer group caring interaction.
The purpose of this study is to investigate the influence of children's socia-demographic variables(i.e., gender, birth order, and the amount of time staying in kindergarten) on, leadership, self-regulation and children's peer play behaviors. The participants of this study are 336 children aged between five and seven in four classes in a private kindergarten and eight classes in a private preschool located in the capital region. The results revealed that, girls showed more leadership, self-regulation, and play interaction section than boys: whereas, boys showed higher response in play disruption and the lack of play disconnection. However, birth order, did not have a significant effect on the sub-domain of leadership, self-regulation competence, and peer play behaviors. As for the duration children stay in preschool or in preschool or kindergarten, children who spend half-day showed higher reaction in behavioral self-control and emotional taking abilities than children who stay in the preschool or kindergarten full day. On the other hand, self-esteem of full-time children was higher than half-time children. Children who were emotionally sensitive, knew how to lead their peer group, and those who were sociable and self-regulated presented to be more active in peer-interaction than others. Second, as the result of the correlation analysis reveals, children's leadership, self-regulation competence, peer play behaviors, and play interaction had a meaningful effect on the sub-variations of children's leadership and self-regulation and they showed significant influence upon play disruption and play disconnection. In addition, girls who were not able to manage or to inspect their behavior and had insensitive emotion demonstrated higher tendency to play disconnected. Children, who participated in full-day program with having difficulties in self-regulation or inspecting their behavior properly but had a strong leadership and insensitive showed play disruption highly.
