  • The double Gamma function had been defined and studied by Barnes [4], [5], [6] and others in about 1900, not appearing in the tables of the most well-known special functions, cited in the exercise by Whittaker and Waston [25, pp. 264]. Recently this function has been revived according to the study of determinants of Laplacians [8], [11], [15], [16], [19], [20], [22] and [24]. Shintani [21] also uses this function to prove the classical Kronecker limit formula. Its p-adic analytic extension appeared in a formula of Casson Nogues [7] for the p-adic L-functions at the point 0.

  • In this letter we present a generic Craig form for the two-dimensional (2-D) Gaussian Q-function. The presented Craig form provides an alternative solution to the problems of computing probabilities involving a form of the 2-D Gaussian Q-function.

  • A transformer is one of the most important elements in the power network. Transformer faults could cause costly repairs and be dangerous to personnel. To avoid this, its reliable operation has great significance and, therefore, the diagnosis system of the transformer is necessitated. The dissolved gas-in-oil analysis (DGA) is the worldwide popular method of detecting faults such as a hot spot or partial discharges inside the transformer. DGA, however, is not a reliable technique to identify aging phenomena and mechanical faults including insulation failure, inter-turn short, etc. To overcome the drawbacks of DGA, the transfer function method is used to identify effectively these kinds of the mechanical faults. The transformer has a unique transfer function independent of the shape of the input waveform, which can be evaluated through sweep test. This transfer function changes by winding ...

  • The purpose of this study was to determine the effects of swiss ball program training on lower extremity function of old elderly with mild cognitive impairment. The subjects were 30 mild cognitive impairment eldrly people aged between 65 and 80, who were divided into the swiss ball program training group(n=15) and the control group(n=15). The swiss ball program training group engaged in a 50-minute exercise session using. Lower extremity function scale of the two groups were measured before and after the intervention. The results are as follows. According to the swiss ball program training conducted to examine the effects of the training on lower extremity function, Moreover, the two groups showed significant differences in lower extremity function. These results indicate that virtual reality training is effective in improving lower extremity function. To conclusion, swiss ball program was found to have a positive effect on elderly lower extremity function. Swiss ball program training can be proposed as a form of fall prevention exercise for the mild cognitive impairment. Swiss ball program may be helpful to reduce the incidence of dementia and behavioral complications.

  • Soil metagenome is untapped total microbial genome including that of the majority of unculturable bacteria present in soil. We constructed soil metagenomic library in Escherichia coli using DNA directly extracted from two different soils, pine tree rhizosphere soil and forest topsoil. Metagenomic libraries constructed from pine tree rhizosphere soil and forest topsoil consisted of approximately 33,700 clones and 112,000 clones with average insert DNA size of 35-kb, respectively. Subsequently, we screened the libraries to select clones with antimicrobial activities against Saccharomyces cerevisiae and Agrobacterium tumefaciens using double agar layer method. So far, we have a clone active against S. cerevisiae and a clone active against A. tumefaciens from the forest topsoil library. In vitro mutagenesis and DNA sequence analysis of the antifungal clone revealed the genes involved in the biosynthesis of antimicrobial secondary metabolite. Metagenomic libraries constructed in this study would be subject to search for diverse genetic resources related with useful microbial products.

  • This study aimed at the improvement of the conventional methods of Velue Engineering Function Analysis, the most important phase of VE processes, through Quality Function Development and Analytic Hierarchy Process. This study was performed in both theory and study. In the theoretical study, the necessity and the fitness of the connection between VE and QC techniques were studied. The use of Function Requirement Coefficients in Quality Function Development makes the more objective Function Evaluation possible.

  • In this paper we introduced a new score generating function for the rank dispersion function in a general linear model. Based on the new score function, we derived the null asymptotic theory of the rank-based hypothesis testing in a linear model. In essence we showed that several rank test statistics, which are primarily focused on our new score generating function and new dispersion function, are mainly distribution free and asymptotically converges to a chi-square distribution.

  • Classical methods for estimating transfer function models have not always been successful. A statistic approach to the identification of transfer function models which is corrupted by disturbances or noise is presented. The estimated impulse response is obtained from the autocorrelation function and cross correlation function between the measured input and output. Several data analysis tools such as R- , S- and GPAC array for the estimated impulse response give us pretty clear information on the order of transfer function models.

  • Lee, et al. (1999) proposed a unique but universal robust objective function replacing the square objective function for the radial basis function network, and demonstrated some advantages. In this article, the robust objective function in Lee, et al. (1999) is adapted for a multilayer perceptron (MLP). The shape of the robust objective function is formed by the scale parameter. Another method of determining a proper value of that parameter is proposed.
