  • The primary objectives of this study are to develop a detail design of automated PHC pile head cutting machine and structural stability analysis of detail design that improves the conventional head cutting work in safety, quality, and productivity. For this, the following research works are conducted sequentially; 1)literature review and field study, 2)expert survey and interview, 3)selection of core technology using AHP analysis, 4)deduction of detail design 5) verification of structural stability. As an outcome, it is analyzed that gripper and gripper bearing shaft are structurally stable. Their maximum stresses are shown as 15.93%, 10.58% compared to their yield strength respectively. The results of detail design and structural stability analysis in this study will be utilized for the actual development of the automated PHC pile cutting machine prototype.

  • Nowadays, large amount of waste pottery annually are produced. It is needed that waste pottery is to are used as recycle materials in order to prevent environmental pollution and economic profits. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to present the method of utilizing the cement admixture that is obtained from waste pottery as the cement admixture. The test results that the replacement of waste pottery powder by cement admixture at the level 5%, 7% had effect on the compressive strength of the PHC pile. As a conclusion, improved strength recycled(waste pottery powder) PHC pile can be produced of cement admixture.

  • This paper investigated the structural capacity of the CT shear connectors, which is a kind of the perfobond rib and functions as an anchor transferring the tension force in the joint between a composite PHC wall pile and a bottom slab. The direct pull-out test was performed for various specimens. From failure modes and load-displacement curves, it was found that transverse rebars should be placed to holes in a web to restrict pull-out failure of CT shear connectors. The results of additional tests for specimens with transverse rebars and various support lengths indicated that all specimens were failed by the tension failure of PHC pile before pull-out failure of CT shear connector and concrete pull-out failure. Thus, the CT shear connector could endure the tension force between the PHC wall pile and the bottom slab.

  • The pile foundations have been chosen more frequently as the comprehensive development of the country progressed, especially where the ground conditions are not suitable for the construction and the dimension and the length of the piles utilized becomes larger and longer. The purpose of this study suggests the improvement method of construction management for PHC pile in an apartment house. To do This, We analyzed about current process and provided improved Process with IDEF method. And, The objectives of this research is to propose the means to solve the current problems and management factors from the results of the investigation.

  • This paper presents the thermal conduction analysis (using ABAQUS ver 6.10 and FLUENT ver 6.3.26) of geothermal energy for PHC, steel and copper energy piles by considering subsurface environment, thermal efficiency of grouting materials, and fluid velocity of circulating fluid. Results show that higher thermal efficiency for copper pile is observed followed by steel and PHC piles depending on the grouting materials and subsurface condition. The fluid velocity of 0.6m/s presents most efficient outflow temperature (275.4K) and heat exchange rate (103.1W/m) for the case of PHC pile during 8 hours operation. Analysis of operation schedule concludes that 16 hours of stand-by allows charging geothermal energy following 8 hours operation in winter season is most appropriate with 0.1K of temperature difference from the steady-state condition.

  • Waste Concrete Powder will be generated during the manufacture of construction waste as recycled aggregate Waste concrete. The main component of the waste concrete Powder is a silica-based composition 51% SiO2, waste concrete cement-based composition Al2O3 10%, CaO 26% component are contained. The material is silica sand of PHC piles should experiment by replacing the Waste Concrete Powder. The compressive strength results are as follows. 25% when the Silica was replaced 32.5Mpa, when 50% have replaced 43.4Mpa, when 75% have replaced 45.3Mpa was measured. Compared with the non-replaced test sample it appears that the strength increases. Therefore, it is determined that the practical use of the PHC piles by replacing silica via this experiment is possible.

  • The use of energy pile foundation has increased for economic utilization of geothermal energy. In particular, coil-shaped ground heat exchanger (GHE) is preferred to the conventional U-shaped exchanger to ensure better efficiency of heat exchange rate. This paper presents a numerical and experimental study on the heat transfer behavior of PHC energy piles. Field thermal performance tests (TPTs) were conducted for the PHC energy piles installed in a partially saturated weathered granite soil deposit, in which two types of GHEs were considered: W and coil shaped GHEs. Besides, three-dimensional finite element analyses were also conducted, and the results were compared with the experimental results. According to the results of TPT and numerical analyses, the coil shaped GHE showed 10~15% higher heat exchange rate than the W type GHE in the PHC energy piles.
