  • This paper presents a new low loss snubber including the overvoltage snubber for three-level GTO inverters. The proposed snubber can not only minimizes the snubber loss and the number of components but also improve blocking voltage balancing problem between the inner and the outer GTOs.

  • This paper deals with a new overvoltage snubber for a diode-clamped 3-level IGBT inverter. Usually most power converters use snubber circuits to protect the switching devices from voltage spike. However, it is difficult for the diode-clamped multi-level converter to be protected from voltage spike with overvoltage snubber since the series connection of the switching devices. To solve the problem the characteristic of a overvoltage snubber for a DC-DC converter is analyzed, and a new snubber for a diode clamped 3-level inverter is proposed. The performance of the proposed snubber is verified through experiments.

  • This paper proposes a new snubber circuit for multilevel inverter and converter. The snubber circuit makes use of Undeland snubber as basic snubber unit and can be regraded as a generalized Undeland snubber. The proposed snubber keeps such good features as fewer number of components, improved efficiency due to low loss snubber, capability of clamping overvoltage across main switching devices, and no unbalance problem of blocking voltage. Furthermore, the proposed concept of constructing a snubber circuit for multilevel inverter and converter can apply to any kind of basic snubber unit such as Holtz nondissipative snubber, McMurray efficient snubber, Lauritzen lossless snubber, etc which have been utilized for two-level inveter.

  • This paper proposes a new snubber circuit for multilevel inverter and converter. The snubber circuit makes use of Undeland snubber as basic snubber unit and can be regarded as a generalized Undeland snubber. The proposed snubber keeps such good features as fewer number of components, improved efficiency due to low loss snubber, capability of clamping overvoltage across main switching devices, and no unbalance problem of blocking voltage.   • This paper proposed a snubber circuit for flying capacitor multilevel inverter and converter. The proposed snubber circuit makes use of Undeland snubber as basic snubber as basic snubber unit and has such an advantage of Undeland snubber used in the two-level inverter. Comparing conventional RCD/RLD snubber for multilevel in verter and converter the proposed snubber keeps such a good features as fewer number of components improved efficiency of system due to low loss snubber and reduction of voltage stress of main switching devices due to low overvoltage. Furthermore the proposed concept of constructing a snubber circuit for flying capacitor 3-level inverter and converter can apply to any level of them. In this paper the proposed snubber applies to three-level flying capacitor inverter and demonstrates its feature by computer simulation and experimental result.

  • 지금까지 멀티레벨 컨버터 및 인버터에 적용되어온 기존의 스너버는 턴온 스너버로 RLD 스너버 턴오프 스너버로 RCD 스너버를 사용하였으나 이들 RCD/RLD는 많은 소자를 필요로하며 스위칭시의 overvoltage와 스너버 손실이 큰 단점을 지니고 있다. 이와같은 문제점을 해결하기 위해 본 논문에서는 Diode-clamped 4-레벨 컨버터 및 인버터를 위한 새로운 스너버를 제안한다. 새로 제안하는 스너버는 Basic snubber unit로 특성이 좋은 Undeland 스너버와 수정된 RCD/RLD 스너버를 사용한다. 따라서 제안하는 스너버는 Undeland 스너버와 McMuray 스너버가 갖고 있는 특성 즉 사용소자의 수의 감소 과전압의 감소 스너버 손실의 감소 등과 좋은 특성을 지니고 있다 또한 본 논문에서 제안하는 4-레벨 컨버터 및 인버터를 위한 스너버 회로를 구성하는 방법은 다른 레벨의 멀티레벨 컨버터 및 인버터에도 적용가능하다,
