  • Purpose: This article provides step-stress accelerated degradation test (ADT) plans based on the Wiener process. Method: Step-stress levels and the stress change times are determined based on the D-optimality criteria to develop test plans. Further, a simple grid search method is provided for obtaining the optimal test plan. Results: Based on the solution procedure, ADT plans which include the stress levels and change times are developed for conducting the reliability test. Conclusion: Optimal step-stress ADT plans are provided for the case where the number of measurements is small.

  • The Journal of English Language and Literature. The purpose of this study is to provide an optimality theoretic approach to NPIs (Negative Polarity Items) in English and Korean by proposing three universal constraints. The constraints are C-command Condition (CCC): NPI must be c-commanded by a constituent with negative meaning; Locality Condition (LOC): NPI must be bound in the local domain; Subjacency: NPI licensing must satisfy Subjacency Condition (SBJ); Previous analyses have shown that these three constraints control NPIs in one way or another. This study attempts to demonstrate that NPIs in both English and Korean languages can be nicely accounted for by setting a different constraint hierarchy for the two independent languages. That is, by slightly changing the constraint hierarchy, distributional differences of NPIs in both languages can be accounted straightforwardly within the framework of Optimality Theory.

  • This work presents an optimality criteria method which gives accurate solution to the structural optimization problem of plane frames subject to displacement and stress constraints. The method is made efficient, as well as rigorous, by including only the lateral displacement of the top floor in the set of behavioral constraints. The bending stresses of members are treated as side constraints based on the concept of fully-stressed-design, but the optimality of the final design is tested by treating them as behavioral constraints and examining if the design satisfies this new optimality criteria. Worked examples show the superiority of the rigorous opimality criteria in spite of its being simple and efficient.

  • Mond-Weir type duals for multiobjective variational problems are formulated. Under generalized vector variational type I invexity assumptions on the functions involved, sufficient optimality conditions, weak and strong duality theorems are proved efficient and properly efficient solutions of the primal and dual problems.

  • We are concerned with the robust control problem for the Keller-Segel equations with the distributed control and disturbance. We consider the present problem as a differential game finding the best control which takes into account the worst disturbance. We prove the existence of solutions and the optimality conditions to a corresponding problem.

  • A slight extension of the classical saddle point and the global optimality condition has been discussed relative to some algorithmic implications. It also involves an economic interpretation which shows satisfying, rather than optimizing, decision making behavior under bounded rationality.

  • We prove the sufficient conditions for optimality in differential inclusion problem by using the value function. For this purpose, we assume at first that the value function is locally Lipschitz. Secondly, without this assumption, we use the viability theory.
