The data were collected from November 21 to December 5, 2001 by the structured questionnaires. The research tool was measured by 30 items divided into four dimensions; traditional, professional, social and personal image of nurse. Cronbach $\alpha$ for the tool of nurse's image was 0.8960. The data were analysed by SPSS 8.0 for Windows program using frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, t-test, ANOVA and scheffe. The results of this study were as follows; 1. In the nurse's image related to general characteristics, there were significant differences for school graduation, applicative motivation, interpersonal relationship and image forming factor. 2. In the Image forming factors, nursing college students perceived the nurse's image by visiting hospital or admission(37.9%), watching TV(25.8) and others; nurses' appearance during clinical experience(16.3). 3. The mean score for nurse's image of clinical experience group (2.76$\pm$0.28) was lower than that of non-clinical experience group(2.89$\pm$0.31) in significance (t=4.319, p=0.000). 4. In the nurse's image according to clinical experience, there were significant differences for traditional, professional, social, personal image between two groups and the lower mean scores were found in the clinical experience group in all dimensions. The ranks of dimensions were professional image(3.08), traditional image(2.76), social image(2.65), the personal image(2.59) in clinical experience group, whereas professional image(3.21), traditional image(2.93), social image(2.75), personal image(2.71) for non-clinical experience group.5. Nursing experiences and nurse's role in media was measured by self-administered questionnaires with 8 questions. Statistical analysis was made with t-test and ANOVA using SPSS win 18.0. Result: The score on personal image was the highest, while the score on social image was the lowest. Elementary school students reported a positive image compared with middle and high school students. Male students had a more positive image than female students. Of various media, students had more experiences related to nurses from TV rather than internet sites, books and newspaper/magazines. Especially, the nurse's role on TV 'seemed to be an assistant of a doctor' was rated the highest by the students. Conclusion: It is necessary to develop a strategy to improve the social image of the nurse through TV by providing correct information on the nurse's role. For this purpose, it is required to consistently monitor and analyze the nurse's role shown in media.

Methods : The study surveyed 209 college students majoring in nursing science in the city of B for the period of April through May 2022. The collected data were analyzed using SPSS/WIN 22.0 to determine the frequency, percentage ratio, average, and standard deviation. Statistical analyses included the t-test, analysis of variance, pearson's correlation coefficients. Results : As a result of this study, the average degree of satisfaction with majors was 3.88±.50, the average of college life adaptation was 3.26±.47, and the average of the nurse image was 3.90±.51. The major satisfaction according to the general characteristics of the study subjects showed a statistically significant difference in the motive for choosing a department (F=3.70, p=.003) and the thought of a nursing job (F=2.95, p=.004). The adjustment to college life according to the general characteristics of the study subjects showed a statistically significant difference in grade (F=3.50, p=.001), department selection motivation (F=2.69, p=.022) showed a statistically significant difference. The nurse image showed a statistically significant difference in residence type (F=6.00, p=.001) and nursing job thinking (F=2.11, p=.036). The correlation between the variables of the study subjects showed that major satisfaction was found to have a positive correlation with adjustment college life (r=.51, p<.001) and nurse image (r=.54, p<.001). It was found that adjustment college life had a positive correlation with the nurse image (r=.32, p<.001). Conclusion : The higher the degree of satisfaction with the major of nursing students prior to clinical practice education, the higher the degree of adaptation to college life. It is need to intervention studies that can improve the image of positive nursing.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine how the self-image of nursing students can affect the perception of the nurse and to verify the moderating effect of self-regulatory efficacy on perception of the nurse and self image of nursing students. Methods: This study was carried out by 768 nursing students of 10 Universities from all parts of the country from June 18, 2012 to July 13, 2012. Data was analyzed by the SPSS (frequency, ANOVA, and hierarchial multiple regression analysis) program. The moderating effect of self-regulatory efficacy in the relationship between self-image and the nurse's perception of nursing students was measured. Results: The result of male students shows that self-regulatory efficacy affects the perception of the nurse. In the case of female students, their self-image and self-regulatory efficacy were statistically significant. In addition, the moderating effect of self-regulatory efficacy was statistically significant. Conclusions: Colleges of nursing are in need of providing chances to students to attend a class related to understanding how to encourage a positive self image. In addition, a positive self image can effect a nurse's identity. As the moderating effect of self-regulatory efficacy is proved to be effective, nursing students should request a way to achieve recognition with professionalism during nurse's training.
