  • Objective: This study aimed to develop a documentation model that can support early chlildhood learning through play and facilitate the implementation of early childhood and play-oriented curriculum. Methods: This study utilized the design and development research methodology to derive components for the model through literature review and investigation research. In addition, the model was gradually improved through the 3rd expert review, and the validity of the model was verified through usability evaluation with 10 early childhood teachers. Results: This study identified 13 components and developed a flexible, selective, repetitive, and cyclic documentation model based on the 2019 revised Nuri curriculum. Model development is embodied and presented as a model-detailed model-detailed content. The model is presented in detail in the study. Conclusion/Implications: The documentation model developed in this study is expected to provide guidance to early childhood teachers and serve as a basis for future research on documentation in early childhood education. It is expected that it will be able to present the practical direction of records for play support for teachers in the field.

For the purpose, we sampled 265 domestic theses and dissertations that were written over the past three decades between 1985 and 2015, which were analyzed by period of time, content, method and subjects. As for data analysis, statistical data on total frequency and percentage were obtained. The results were as follows: First, the largest number of the studies were implemented during the period from 2007 to 2010, and there was a rapid increase in the number of the dissertations. Second, in terms of the content of research, the biggest number of the studies were concerned about western music teaching methods and integrated teaching methods. The third most common research method was quantitative research. Specifically, experimental research was most prevalent. Fourth, regarding subjects, five-year-old preschoolers were the most common subjects. This study is of significance in that it provides basic information on the management of the Nuri curriculum and music education for young children.

  • Objective: This research was designed to investigate how young children's musical ability and interest in Korean music and their playfulness were affected by musical play activities based on traditional children's songs. Methods: In this study, 28 five-year-old children from W childcare center in W city were divided into an experimental and a comparison group. The experimental group then took part in musical play activities based on traditional children's songs while the comparison group, even though they sang the same songs, took part in musical activities based on themes in the 'Nuri curriculum'. The average and standard deviations of the children's musical ability and interest in Korean music and their playfulness were calculated from the collected data, and ANCOVA was computed using the pre-test scores of each subject as the covariate. Results: The results showed that taking part in musical play activities based on traditional children's songs positively affected young children's musical ability and interest in Korean music and their playfulness. Conclusion/Implications: Therefore, it is suggested that such activities could be useful components for effective Korean music programs in the field of early childhood education.

  • Children's early mathematics education sets the tone for their later learning of mathematics. So the importance of early mathematics education has been emphasized day by day and there has been growing interest in it. The purpose of this study is to examine the possibility of including standards for kindergarten in mathematics curriculum and to select the specific content knowledge for designing mathematics curriculum focusing on continuity of kindergarten and first grade. To do this, continuity between kindergarten mathematics and the first grade mathematics were examined by investigating the five countries' mathematics curricula which include kindergarten level. Based on the results, the content standards of kindergarten mathematics were constituted in the categories of 'number and operation', 'geometry', 'measurement', 'pattern', and 'data and chance', following the some principles of selection. Finally, the implications for attainment of continuity between kindergarten and elementary mathematics were induced, containing the discussion of the methods for teaching and learning mathematics in the kindergarten level.

  • This study aims to propose a planning direction based on the results of domestic case studies and expert advice as a basic research to establish a specific implementation model for kindergarten education space in response to changes in future society and future education by escaping from the issues and facility limitations of existing kindergarten education space. To this end, it is intended to contribute to the positive effect of future education policies by being used as basic data for building specific implementation models through review of the 'Nuri' course, domestic case analysis, and revision of specific standards for kindergarten facility planning. The main research results were case analysis and advisory consultations to derive facility standards and planning directions divided into layout plans, general classrooms, support facilities, public spaces, and external spaces, and a process for identifying and systematizing space-influencing factors based on the facility standards derived in this basic study is needed hereafter.

For the subjects, 20 four-year-old children at K Kindergarten attached to a school were selected as an experimental group and 20 four-year-old children at N Kindergarten attached to a school were selected as a control group. Both kindergartens were located in C City, Chungcheongbuk-do. The experimental group was instructed to perform the study's education activities, whereas the control group only carried out general activities based on the Nuri Curriculum's subjects of daily life. Results: As a result, the children in the experimental group, who received the natural disaster safety education, improved their safety problem-solving abilities and eco-friendly attitude when compared to those in the control group. This outcome proved that the natural disaster safety education conducted by the present study offers educational activities that can positively affect improvements in children's safety problem-solving abilities and eco-friendly attitude. Conclusion/Implications: Therefore, the present study is likely to provide concrete information to teachers who plan to conduct natural disaster safety education in the actual early childhood education field.

  • This study was carried out qualitative study to figure out the process of the perception of creativity conception by kindergarten teachers in Korea. The interviewees are 4 current teachers in kindergarten in Seoul. Data was collected from semi-structured in-depth interview. Collected data were analyzed using Modified Grounded Theory Approach by Kinoshita, a kind of qualitative research method. As a result of data analysis, kindergarten teachers who experts in child education understood key concepts of creativity as unique thinking and rich expression ability. Such concept is mainly acquired at the class in which direct encounter with children is made. Besides, they formed the concept of creativity through reading books and articles, graduate studies and teaching Nuri Curriculum. In the preceding studies on the concept of creativity targeted to elementary and secondary school teachers, they had shared wide concept, but kindergarten teachers shared only some key concepts on creativity. This result would mean that the concept of creativity in the early children education is relatively coherent and such concept and teaching method are relatively well delivered to children at the education field.

  • This study surveyed pre-service early childhood teachers' level of concern about software education on the assumption that software education will be introduced into early childhood education in the future. It was shown that the pre-service early childhood teachers' level of concern about software education is the highest at stage 0(95%) and that they have a high level of informative, personal and managerial concern. Thus, a non-user pattern was mostly indicated. However, compared to the typical non-user pattern, their personal and informative level of concern is slightly higher. A 'tailing up' phenomenon to stage 6(refocusing) was shown. Hence, a pattern aspect close to critical non-user appeared to some extent. A difference in the significant level of concern was shown at all stages, except for managerial concern, according to the need for awareness, the appearance of a future implementation plan, and technology efficacy level. Based on this outcome, it was proposed that teacher training in early childhood software education should be made available as part of the educational activity connected with the Nuri Curriculum, since this would be more suitable for young children's developmental level than the early childhood software education, including coding education, etc., currently found in private institutions.
