  • In this manuscript, buckling response of the functionally graded material (FGM) nanoplate is investigated. Two opposite edges of nanoplate is under linear and nonlinear varying normal stresses. The small-scale effect is considered by Eringen's nonlocal theory. Governing equation are derived by nonlocal theory and Hamilton's principle. Navier's method is used to solve governing equation in simply boundary conditions. The obtained results exactly match the available results in the literature. The results of this research show the important role of nonlocal effect in buckling and stability behavior of nanoplates. In order to study the FG-index effect and different loading condition effects on buckling of rectangular nanoplate, Navier's method is applied and results are presented in various figures and tables.

  • The problem of predicting the fracture strength behavior in orthotropic plate with a crack inclined with respect to the principal material axes is analyzed. Both the load to cause fracture and the crack direction of crack growth arc of interest. The theoretical results based on the normal stress ration theory show significant effects of biaxial loading and the fiber orientation on the crack growth angle and the critical stress. The additional term in the asymptotic expansion of the crack tip stress field appears to provide more accurate critical stress prediction.

  • Blood glucose lowering effects of water extracts from four species of Commelinaceae(Commelina communis, Streptolirion volubile, Tradescantia reflexa, Aneliema keisak) were determined on alloxan-induced hyperglycemic rats. In all the experimental groups, the blood glucose level decreased after loading carbohydrates. The blood glucose level in a group treated with C. communis extract decreased significantly as compared with the normal group. After loading maltose and sucrose separately in different groups, the blood glucose level decreased in the groups treated with the extracts of C. communis and S. volubile, and remained approximately unchanged with the extracts of T. reflexa and A. keisak as compared with the control groups.

  • For the purpose of improving accuracy in friction and wear test, a hydraulic pin-on-disk type tribotester was developed and its performance was evaluated experimentally. The performance estimation of the tribotesrer was accomplished by comparing both the consistency of the applied normal load and the robustness of the control against the mechanical disturbances with those of the pneumatic and the dead weight loading method respectively. The developed hydraulic pin-on-disk type tribotester showed the better reliability in the performance and the hydraulic loading method provided the more accurate friction coefficient.

  • The shaft seal of the reactor coolant pump is installed on the upper side of the rotating shaft of the pump to seal the reactor coolant from flowing out between the rotating shaft and the non-rotating parts. In this study, the loading conditions for the normal operation and faulted conditions are identified and structural integrity evaluation is performed using the finite element stress analysis for the sealing apparatus of the APR 1400 reactor coolant pump. It is confirmed that the stress analysis results satisfy the design criteria at all loading conditions.

  • Thermal deformation behavior of high-strength concrete (HSC) exposed to fire is different from that of normal strength concrete (NSC). In case of ultra-high-strength concrete (UHSC), it is well known that thermal deformation behavior is greater than HSC. With increasing research of UHSC in buildings, it is necessary to understand the performance of UHSC at elevated temperatures considering loading condition. Therefore, evaluation on properties of thermal strain behavior properties of ultra high strength concrete by loading and high temperature was conducted.

  • An exact solution procedure is formulated for the free vibration and buckling analysis of rectangular plates having two opposite edges simply supported when these edges are subjected to linearly varying normal stresses. The other two edges may be clamped, simply supported or free, or they may be elastically supported. The transverse displacement (w) is assumed as sinusoidal in the direction of loading (x), and a power series is assumed in the lateral (y) direction (i.e., the method of Frobenius). Applying the boundary conditions yields the eigenvalue problem of finding the roots of a fourth order characteristic determinant. Care must be exercised to obtain adequate convergence for accurate vibration frequencies and buckling loads, as is demonstrated by two convergence tables. Some interesting and useful results for vibration frequencies and buckling loads, and their mode shapes, are presented for a variety of edge conditions and in-plane loadings, especially pure in-plane moments.

  • A knee joint's longevity depends on the proper integration of structural components in an axial alignment. If just one of the components is abnormally off-axis, the biomechanical system fails, resulting in arthritis. The complexity of various failures in the knee joint has led orthopedic surgeons to select total knee replacement as a primary treatment. In many cases, this means sacrificing much of an other-wise normal joint. Here, we review novel computational approaches to describe knee physiotherapy by introducing a new dimension of foot loading to the knee axis alignment producing an improved functional status of the patient. New physiotherapeutic applications are then possible by aligning foot loading with the functional axis of the knee joint during the treatment of patients with osteoarthritis.

  • Perforated shear connectors currently used in composite steel and concrete structures are described and evaluated. Modifications of the perforated connector suitable for common use injavascript:confirm_mark('abe', '1'); civil and bridge engineering are proposed. The connectors were tested in laboratories of CTU Prague for shear load capacity. Push tests of connectors with 32 mm openings and with 60 mm openings, both in normal and lightweight concrete of different strength characteristics and with different transverse reinforcement, were carried out. The experimental study also dealt with the connector height and parallel arrangement of two connectors and their influence on shear resistance. While extensive tests with static loading were carried out, fatigue tests under repeated loading are still in progress. After statistical evaluation of the experimental results and comparisons with other available data the authors developed reasonable shear resistance formulas for all proposed arrangements.

  • In this paper, long term deflection of RC beam with variable substitution ratio of recycled aggregate is investigated. 6 RC beam specimens are designed using concrete made of coarse aggregate of 25mm size, mix strength of 21MPa, slump of 12cm and air content of $5.0{\pm}1.5%$. A few concrete blocks are made and used for long term loading. The loading and deflection instrumentation are conducted following the process codified in ACI 318-05 code. Test result shows that the deflection of specimens depends on the compressive strength of concrete. And it is concluded that the deflection of RC beam can be predicted like normal beam using ACI formula if certain level of compressive strength is acquired even recycled aggregate is used in making the beam.
