  • Evidence of linkage is expressed as a decreasing trend of the squared trait difference of two siblings with increasing identical by descent scores. In contrast to successes in the application of a parametric approach of Haseman-Elston regression, notably low powers are demonstrated in the nonparametric linkage analysis methods for complex traits and diseases with sib-pairs data. We report that the Genehunter nonparametric linkage statistic is biased and furthermore the variance formula that they used is an inflated one, and this is one reason for a low performance. Thus, we propose bias-corrected nonparametric linkage statistics. Simulation studies comparing our proposed nonparametric test statistics versus the existing test statistics suggest that the bias-corrected new nonparametric test statistics are more powerful and attains efficiencies close to that of Haseman-Elston regression.

  • The purpose of this study is investigate the differences among parametric and nonparametric test statistics for the tree alternative hypothesis in the randomized block design. As the results, it was found that there was no large differences among parametric and nonparametric test statistics in power when the block sizes were larger, and Hollander's statistic had better power than other nonparametric test statistics. It is recommended that Hollander's test statistic is more useful method when we have no information about the distribution of population.

  • We consider an estimation of discontinuous variance function in nonparametric heteroscedastic random design regression model. We first propose estimators of a change point and jump size in variance function and then construct an estimator of entire variance function. We examine the rates of convergence of these estimators and give results on their asymptotics. Numerical work reveals that the effectiveness of change point analysis in variance function estimation is quite significant.

  • The problem of optimal design for a nonparametric regression with binary data is considered. The aim of the statistical analysis is the estimation of a quantal response surface in two dimensions. Bias, variance and IMSE of kernel estimates are derived. The optimal design density with respect to asymptotic IMSE is constructed.

  • This paper compares powers of the two nonparametric tests under a variety of population distributions through a simulation study. Both tests require that the two underlying populations have the same variance, but this assumption is relaxed in some of the comparisons.

  • The inverse Weibull distribution (IWD) is the complementary Weibull distribution and plays an important role in many application areas. In Bayesian analysis, Soland's method can be considered to avoid computational complexities. One limitation of this approach is that parameters of interest are restricted to a finite number of values. This paper introduce nonparametric Bayesian estimator in the context of record statistics values from the exponentiated inverse Weibull distribution (EIWD). In stead of Soland's conjugate piror, stick-breaking prior is considered and the corresponding Bayesian estimators under the squared error loss function (quadratic loss) and LINEX loss function are obtained and compared with other estimators. The results may be of interest especially when only record values are stored.

  • Income distribution is a major concern in economic theory. In regional economics, it is often of interest to compare income distributions in different regions. Traditional methods often compare the income inequality of different regions by assuming parametric forms of the income distributions, or using summary statistics like the Gini coefficient. In this paper, we propose a nonparametric procedure to test for heterogeneity in income distributions among different regions, and a K-means clustering procedure for clustering income distributions based on energy distance. In simulation studies, it is shown that the energy distance based method has competitive results with other common methods in hypothesis testing, and the energy distance based clustering method performs well in the clustering problem. The proposed approaches are applied in analyzing data from China Health and Nutrition Survey 2011. The results indicate that there are significant differences among income distributions of the 12 provinces in the dataset. After applying a 4-means clustering algorithm, we obtained the clustering results of the income distributions in the 12 provinces.

  • Estimation of the edge of a distribution has many important applications. It is related to classification, cluster analysis, neural network, and statistical image recovering. The problem also arises in measuring production efficiency in economic systems. Three most promising nonparametric estimators in the existing literature are introduced. Their statistical properties are provided, some of which are new. Themes of future study are also discussed.
