Control of Dynamical Systems: An Intelligent Approach

  • In this paper, we introduce a fuzzy nonlinear feedback approach to the control of a class of chaotic dynamical systems. The fuzzy Parallel Distributed Compensation with Reduced Rule Base approach (PDC_RRB) is proposed. The design procedure is conceptually simple and considered to a nonlinear optimal and robust control problem due to the nonlinear nature of the Takagi-Sugeno (TS) fuzzy system. Simulation results are provided to show the effictiveness of the proposed methodology.

  • The purpose of this paper is to present a nonlinear system identification method, where an adaptive nonlinear recursive state-spare(ANRSS) filter is employed as its filter structure, and a variable step (VS) algorithm is applied as its adaptation law. To demonstrate the validity of the proposed method, some simulation results are included.

  • This paper presents the application of a FARMA controller to stabilization of nonlinear Two-Generator Five-Bus power Systems. The control rules and the membership functions of the FARMA controller are generated automatically without using any plant model high complexity and severe nonlinearity of power systems are introduced and two-Machine Five -Bus Power system stabilization problem is formulated. The simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness and application possibility of the FARMA controller to the control problem of high order and nonlinear plants.

  • The subject of nonlinear control is an important area of automatic control. The behavior of nonlinear systems is much more complex. If the operating range of a control system is small, and if the involved nonlinearities are smooth, then the control system may be resonably approximated by a set of linear differential equations. This paper presents the deadbeat response attribute of some nonlinear systems, e.g., magnetic levitation, pendulum, van der pol oscillator etc.. The studied results through the computer simulation are shown a promising attribute of deadbeat response that the outputs of the systems are reached relatively fast the steady state.

  • In this paper, A useful nonlinear function for the RBF(Radial Basis Function) equalization is proposed. This proposed function need not calculate an exponential function that is generally used for conventional RBF equalizer and uses the only four rules of arithmetic. Therefore the computational requirement for the RBF equalizer with the proposed function is decreased. As a computer simulation result, the equalizer with the proposed function effectively reduce nonlinear intersymbol interference, caused by nonlinear communication channel.

Far-field 위상 변조량 측정법을 이용한 광학매질의 비선형 특성 측정 (Measurement of the Nonlinear Optical Properties by use of the Far-Field Phase Modulation Method)

  • 본 연구에서는 광학매질의 비선형 특징을 측정하기 위해, 자체집속현상을 이용하는 기존의 측정법과는 다르게, 매질을 통과한 광원의 위상섭동으로 인하여 far-field에 발생한 공간적 광장도 분포를 이용하는 far-field 위상 변조량 측정법을 사용하였다. 미선형 매질을 통과한 조사과의 위상 변화가 far-field 영역에서 나타나는 겅간적 위상 변조량을 실험적으로 측정아였고, 이를 전산시\ulcorner을 통하여 비교분석하였다. 파장 616nm, 펄스폭 106ps의 분포궤한 섹소레이저(DFDL)와 파장 308nm인 DFDL의 제2고조파를 조사광으로 사용하였고, 매질 $CS_2$$BaF_2$의 비선형 특성을 실험적으로 측정한후 이 값을 전산시늉값과 비교하였다. 이 실험에서 파장 616nm에 대해 $CS_2$$BaF_2$의 비선형 굴절률 $1.2{\times}10^{-11}$ esu와 $1.0{\times}10^{-13}$ esu를 각각 얻었고, 파장 308nm에 대해 $BaF_2$의 비선형 흡수계수 $5.0{\times}10^{-11}$cm/W를 얻었다. 이들 값은 지금까지 발표된 값들과 잘 일치한다.

Design of a smart MEMS accelerometer using nonlinear control principles

  • This paper presents a novel smart MEMS accelerometer which employs a hybrid control algorithm and an estimator. This scheme is realized by adding a sliding-mode controller to a conventional PID closed loop system to achieve higher stability and higher dynamic range and to prevent pull-in phenomena by preventing finger displacement from passing a maximum preset value as well as adding an adaptive nonlinear observer to a conventional PID closed loop system. This estimator is used for online estimation of the parameter variations for MEMS accelerometers and gives the capability of self testing to the system. The analysis of convergence and resolution show that while the proposed control scheme satisfies these criteria it also keeps resolution performance better than what is normally obtained in conventional PID controllers. The performance of the proposed hybrid controller investigated here is validated by computer simulation.

  • Hybrid electric vehicles have attracted much attention of late, emphasizing the necessity of developing traction motors with a high input current and a wide speed range. Among such traction motors, various researches have been conducted on interior permanent-magnet synchronous motors (IPMSMs) with high power density and mechanical solidity. Due to the complexity of its parameters, however, with nonlinear motor characteristics and current vector control, it is actually difficult to accurately estimate the base speed within an actual operating speed range or a voltage limit. Moreover, it is impossible to construct an efficiency map as the efficiency differs according to the control mode. In this study, a simulation method for operation performance considering the nonlinearity of IPMSM was proposed. For this, datasets of various nonlinear parameters were made via the finite-element method and interpolation. Maximum torque-per-ampere and flux-weakening control were accurately simulated using the datasets, and an IPMSM efficiency map was accurately constructed based on the simulation. Lastly, the validity of the simulation was verified through tests.

Analytical and experimental exploration of sobol sequence based DoE for response estimation through hybrid simulation and polynomial chaos expansion

  • Hybrid simulation (HS) has attracted community attention in recent years as an efficient and effective experimental technique for structural performance evaluation in size-limited laboratories. Traditional hybrid simulations usually take deterministic properties for their numerical substructures therefore could not account for inherent uncertainties within the engineering structures to provide probabilistic performance assessment. Reliable structural performance evaluation, therefore, calls for stochastic hybrid simulation (SHS) to explicitly account for substructure uncertainties. The experimental design of SHS is explored in this study to account for uncertainties within analytical substructures. Both computational simulation and laboratory experiments are conducted to evaluate the pseudo-random Sobol sequence for the experimental design of SHS. Meta-modeling through polynomial chaos expansion (PCE) is established from a computational simulation of a nonlinear single-degree-of-freedom (SDOF) structure to evaluate the influence of nonlinear behavior and ground motions uncertainties. A series of hybrid simulations are further conducted in the laboratory to validate the findings from computational analysis. It is shown that the Sobol sequence provides a good starting point for the experimental design of stochastic hybrid simulation. However, nonlinear structural behavior involving stiffness and strength degradation could significantly increase the number of hybrid simulations to acquire accurate statistical estimation for the structural response of interests. Compared with the statistical moments calculated directly from hybrid simulations in the laboratory, the meta-model through PCE gives more accurate estimation, therefore, providing a more effective way for uncertainty quantification.

A method for linearizing nonlinear system by use of polynomial compensation

  • In this paper, the authors propose a new method for linearizing a nonlinear dynamical system by use of polynomial compensation. In this method, an M-sequence is applied to the nonlinear system and the crosscorrelation function between the input and the output gives us every crosssections of Volterra kernels of the nonlinear system up to 3rd order. We construct a polynomial compensation function from comparison between lst order Volterra kernel and high order kernels. The polynomial compensation function is, in this case, of third order whose coefficients are variable depending on the amplitude of the input signal. Once we can get compensation function of nonlinear system, we can construct a linearization scheme of the nonlinear system. That is. the effect of second and third order Volterra kernels are subtracted from the output, thus we obtain a sort of linearized output. The authors applied this method to a saturation-type nonlinear system by simulation, and the results show good agreement with the theoretical considerations.
