Silver particles were synthesized from silver nitrate by homogeneous precipitation and chemical reduction methods involving the intermediate silver cyanate. The obtained silver particles were characterized by XRD, SEM, TEM, and BET. Urea which could prevent the agglomeration of the reduced silver particles was used as a homogeneous precipitator. The spherical silver particles with average particle diameter of 100 nm were obtained under the optimum reaction conditions. The optimum synthetic conditions were found as follows: reaction temperature $100^{\circ}C$, reaction time 60 min, concentration of silver nitrate $1{\times}10^{-2}$ mol, urea $5{\times}10^{-3}$ mol, and sodium citrate $8.5{\times}10^{-4}$ mol. The phase of obtained silver particles was crystalline state and the silver particles were relatively dense, which had the surface area of $0.7571\;m^{2}/g$.

The authors fabricated the nanostructural patterns on the surface of SiN antireflection layer of polycrystalline Si solar cell and the surface of crystalline Si wafer using anodic aluminum oxide (AAO) masks in an inductively coupled plasma(ICP) etching process. The AAO nanopattern mask has the hole size of about 70~80nm and an ave rage lattice constant of 100nm. The transferred nano-patterns were observed by the scanning electron microscope (SEM) and the enhancement of solar cell efficiency will be presented.
We have prepared crystalline Ag nanoparticles with an average size of 4 nm in diameter by using an inductively coupled plasma reactor equipped with the liquid nitrogen cooling system. Our magnetic data show that the nano-sized effect of Ag nanoparticles on the magnetic properties is ferromagnetic, instead of a diamagnetic component of the Ag bulk and a superparamagnetic component of magnetic nanoparticles. We have also studied the magnetic properties of Ag-Cu nanocomposites with an opposite concentration profile between surface and core. These comparisons indicate that the ferromagnetic component strongly depends on the surface of Ag nanoparticles, while the paramagnetic component is strongly affected by the outer oxide layer, with the background of a diamagnetic component from the core of Ag.
We have investigated protonic conduction in highly dense (>98%) polycrystalline Y-doepd $BaZrO_3$ (BYZ) ceramic with an average grain size of ~85 nm. It is observed that the protonic conductivity across the grain boundaries in this nano-crystallilne BYZ (n-BYZ) is significantly higher than the microcrystalline counterpart. Such a remarkable enhancement in grain boundary conductivity results in high overall conductivity that may allow this chemically stable protonic conductor to serve as a solid electrolyte for low-temperature solid oxide fuel cell applications.

Various concentration of copper was dopped in Fe-35%Ni thin sheet by electroforming and their electromagnetic, surface properties were determined. Microstructure observation by scanning electron microscopy revealed that the thin sheet had columnar grains with about 150 nm long. Phase analysis by X-ray diffractometry revealed that the alloy thin sheets were fine crystalline. The average surface roughnesses measured by atomic force microscopy (AFM) were about 14.38 nm. Nano hardnesses determined by tribo-nano indenter were 4.13 GPa. The surface resistances were 2.28 ohm/sq. The maximum magnetization, residual magnetization and coercive force depended on the copper concentration.
Nano-multilayered, crystalline AlTiSiN thin films were deposited on WC-TiC-Co substrates by the cathodic arc plasma deposition. The deposited film consisted of wurtzite-type AlN, NaCl-type TiN, and tetragonal $Ti_2N$ phases. Their oxidation characteristics were studied at 800 and $900^{\circ}C$ for up to 20 h in air. The WC-TiC-Co oxidized fast with large weight gains. By contrast, the AlTiSiN film displayed superior oxidation resistance, due mainly to formation of the ${\alpha}-Al_2O_3$-rich surface oxide layer, below which an ($Al_2O_3$, $TiO_2$, $SiO_2$)-intermixed scale existed. Their oxidation progressed primarily by the outward diffusion of nitrogen, combined with the inward transport of oxygen that gradually reacted with Al, Ti, and Si in the film.

Synthesis of iron nanopowder by room-temperature electrochemical reduction process of ${\alpha}-Fe_2O_3$ nanopowder was investigated in terms of phase evolution and microstructure. As process variables, reduction time and applied voltage were changed in the range of $1{\sim}20$ h and $30{\sim}40$ V, respectively. From XRD analyses, it was found that volume of Fe phase increased with increasing reduction time and applied voltage, respectively. The crystallite size of Fe phase in all powder samples was less than 30 nm, implying that particle growth was inhibited by the reaction at room temperature. Based on the distinct equilibrium shape of crystalline particle, phase composition of nanoparticles was identified by TEM observation.

1D core-shell nanostructures have attracted great attention due to their enhanced physical and chemical properties. Specifically, oriented single-crystalline $TiO_2$ nanorods or nanowires on a transparent conductive substrate would be more desirable as the building core backbone. However, a facile approach to produce such structure-based hybrids is highly demanded. In this study, a three-step hydrothermal method was developed to grow NiMn-layered double hydroxide-decorated $TiO_2$/carbon core-shell nanorod arrays on transparent conductive fluorine-doped tin oxide (FTO) substrates. XRD, SEM, TEM, XPS and Raman were used to analyze the obtained samples. The in-situ fabricated hybrid nanostructured materials are expected to be applicable for photoelectrode working in water splitting.

We report on the growth and characterization of the nano- and micro scale GaN structures selectively grown on the vertex of GaN stripes using the metal organic vapor phase epitaxy method and conventional photolithography technique. The triangular shaped nano- and micro GaN structures which have semi-polar {11-22} facets were formed only on the vertex of the lower GaN stripes. Crystalline defects reduction was observed by transmission electron microscopy for upper GaN stripes. We also have grown the InGaN/GaN multi-quantum well structures on the semi-polar facets of the upper GaN stripes. Cathodoluminescence images were taken at 366, 412 and 555 nm related to GaN band edge, InGaN/GaN layer and defects, respectively.

Many studies have been conducted for preventing from diffusion between silicon wafer and metallic thin film due to a decrease of line-width and multi-layer thin film for miniaturization and high integration of semiconductor. This paper has focused on the nano-mechanical property of diffusion barrier which sample is prepared for various gas flow rate of nitrogen with tungsten (W) base from 2.5 to 10 sccm. The deposition rate, resistivity and crystallographic properties were measured by a ${\beta}$-ray back-scattering spectroscopy, 4-point probe and x-ray diffraction (XRD), respectively. We also has investigated the nano-mechanical property using the nano-indenter. As a result, the surface hardness of W-N thin film was increased rapidly from 10.07 to 15.55 GPa when the nitrogen gas flow was increased from 2.5 to 5 sccm. And the surface hardness of W-N thin film had 12.65 and 12.77 GPa at the nitrogen gas flow of 7.5 and 10 sccm respectively. These results were decreased by the comparison with the W-N thin film at nitrogen gas flow of 5 sccm. It was inferred that these severe changes were caused by the stoichiometric difference between the crystalline and amorphous state in W-N thin film. In addition, these results were caused by increased compressive stress.
