  • It is suggested that the service life of the continuous welded rail(CWR) is estimated by the relationship between the rail surface irregularity according to the accumulated passing tonnage and bending fatigue of welded part in CWR. In this study, it measured bending stress of rail according to the rail surface irregularity in the concrete track on the Seoul Metro. In addition, the relationship between rail surface irregularity and bending stress in concrete track is analyzed by results of the field test. Finally, this study clarified the relationship among bending stress(Y) of rail, train speed(U), rail surface irregularity(v, w) in concrete track. The result of this study is able to use the basis data to establishing the periodic replacements criterion of CWR.

  • Purpose: This study was conducted to define factors influencing health-related quality of life (HRQOL) in women undergraduates. Independent variables of physical activity, attitude to eating, satisfaction with body shape, stress and self-esteem were used to predict HRQOL. Method: Data were analyzed using the SPSS/WIN 20.0 program for descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation coefficients and stepwise multiple regression. Participants were 245 women undergraduates who were recruited from July to September 2012. Result: The mean for the physical component summary (PCS) of HRQOL was 73.89, and for the mental component summary (MCS) was 68.45. There were significant correlations between attitude to eating, satisfaction with body shape, stress, self-esteem and the two components of HRQOL. The groups with minimal or health enhancing activity were significantly higher in PCS and MCS than the inactivity group. Stepwise multiple regression analysis indicated that 35% of the variance in PCS was significantly accounted for by self-esteem, perceived stress, attitude to eating, and physical activity, and 45% of the variance in MCS was significantly accounted for by perceived stress, self-esteem, attitude to eating, and satisfaction with body shape. Conclusion: The results indicate that these factors influencing HRQOL should be considered when developing programs to improve HRQOL for women undergraduates.

  • This study examines the socio-cultural readjustment of the Korean students returning from overseas study at an early age. For this study 259 returnee students from elementary through high school completed a questionnaire which covered aspects such as school adjustment and re-acculturative stress in relationship to gender, grade, number of parents accompanying the students overseas, length of overseas stay, age of return, length of stay in Korea, and the acculturative stress experienced in a host culture. The findings indicate that re-acculturative stress level of returnee students is higher than the level of the acculturative stress, and that the two are positively related. Hierarchical multiple regression analyses reveal the grade and acculturative stress of returnee students as a significant predictor of school adjustment. The length of overseas stay and acculturative stress significantly predicted the re-acculturative stress level. The acculturative stress significantly affected both school adjustment and re-acculturative stress of returnee students back in Korea.

  • This study is aimed to obtain the critical crack lengthes of the concrete gravity dam and to investigate variation of the effective stress intensity factors at the crack tips of multiple cracks. Applied loads are dynamic load composed of blast vibration and hydrodynamic pressure which can be considered in case of the blast work at near construction site, in addition to static load composed of hydrostatic pressure, crack pressure, and gravity load of the dam. The critical crack lengthes were calculated according to the crack locations, directions, and magnitudes of blast vibration. Also variation of the effective stress intensity factors with respect to the multiple crack shapes and distances between the crack tips was investigated.
